@@matthewbenchea hello ! Thank you ! I do essentially for entertainment, you can find diagram on google by searching something like : ps2 slim hdd install Also, you can check my other video (the one linked in description for instance) that show you the way to do the same mod with a flex cable that I made and you can find on my website Gusse.in . It’s more easy and fast to do, but less fun to do 😉
@@Gusse great! Just bought used PS2 fat 5000x. After disassembly I found old mod chip. I search everywhere on the internet but couldn't find the exact model. Gladly happy if I can share some photos with you. Would be nice to get your opinion on that
you need Methylene mod, you can find it on my website, here is the installation video : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p2AAjnSoD7s.htmlsi=Pv-6XJ10plEfxsxp
This is pretty sexy. If this model is FreeMcBoot compatible and you can do an internal Mx4sio mode w/button like the PS2 Super Slim by Wesk then this is quite literally the ultimate PS2
Thanks ! In this console I have installed Methylene (Blueretro), it's allow to start, stop and reset the console remotely, and I have a NAS with share to load games ;)
Greetings. Question: Are 256 and 512 GB SD cards supported? I ask because I encountered a software limitation of up to 128 GB. That is, as the card fills up, OPL does not see new recorded games, the old ones (which were before) start normally.
The se card adapter used in this video doesn’t support lba48, it’s that why you can’t fill up to 137gb. There is other mod you can do with SATA adapter to bypass all limitations, another it’s iflash that I have done on some console, but sd card on market actually are up to 1,5tb and they are expensive
I'm having problems with the procedure. Formatted my micro sd many times (exFAT or FAT32), copied the files on the root, set the boot mode to Mass but nothing, while the ps2 tries to boot I always get an error message with 4 question marks instead of the right icons. Any idea? I'm going to try another micro SD later.
you need to put the files on root of an USB key and plug it on USB port on the console. Then you boot boot from USB key (boot mode "MASS") and if the usb key is correctly prepared you shoud have icon of app that help you to prepare your SD Card. You can also format your SD Card in exFat, but you lose the faculty to direct boot from it, and you need USB key or memory card with OPL in it. (Please check your eby msg)
the fun thing is that there is not even thermal pads to transfer heat inside the SSD. You modded my PS2 with a SSD, but since im picky, i'm just gonna buy flat copper heatsinks to put it on the ssd haha
@ 5:55 Is there a diagram for these alternate install points you're using? I have a Modbo 760 that I am trying to get installed and didn't know about these points.
it's a mod that I made to put SSD card on back on the console with SATA adapter and iDE resurrector, you can check here: x.com/Gusse__/status/1694691375269167210 and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZB05cdnxNgE.htmlsi=CjijrWRKfI4jwfoM
Received package yesterday. Great quality, woth the price, and Easy to install. I'm just playing with it and testing. Works great with PS4 controller and Switch Pro Controller. Thank you for great instalation guide.
I received package from you yesterday, thank you very much for sending it quickly. Already installed and work as it should. Very easy instalation comparing my first 3 attempts with wires (for some reason never worked) 😅 I'm checking methylene now (working) and waiting for retro gem to install and finish off with this console.
It's a little funny that I also decided to do the same mod on my 70000 using the exact same ide adapter. I was about to start until I stumbled across these videos. Great job btw.
How do I detach the ribbon cable from the laser reader? Other tutorials show a latch mechanism but those are other slim models and mine doesn’t seem to the same?
No, this is just a way on how to desolder the IDE plug from the adapter, if you want an internal HDD/SSD/SD you would need to go with either a FAT console or a SCPH-7000x SLIM model! For the SCPH-7500x and onwards, your best option would be getting/building an MX4SIO card and load games through that!
It uses the 7000x PS2 Slim console, with the IDE connection reconnected to an IDE to SATA adapter which has it's SATA plug relocated to a 3D printed peace which sits in place of the DVD drive. The SSD is simply dismantled to make it thin enough to fit into the disc compartment!
Amazing looking product! Perfect for my purposes. But what is the reason for the CAPs between RESET, READ, WRITE, ACK, and their adjacent ground pins? I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that before.
@@Gusse Yes I figured as much lol, I was just wondering if you knew why. Full disclosure I'm making a portable using this kind of HDD loading, and I'm trying to gather as much knowledge as I can. I actually tried this mod a several years ago, using the exact same SATA bridge device as well, just without the benefit of your flex cable. The system interfaced with the device, and I was able to load and play KH2 precisely once... And then it just stopped working. Mayhaps this was the reason? And had I known to put those CAPs in place, it might have worked more that just the once? I don't suppose that was what happened before you figured out to add the CAPs?
@@AngelArm1110 I'm not the person who discovered that capacitors were needed in these places. I just know that it's the fruit of empirical testing for no apparent reason. Capacitors help stabilize signals for chips, which are of very average quality but readily available and very inexpensive. Other boards apart from Maxwell chips don't need these capacitors. Also looking at ide to SD boards, capacitors are present and this is potentially only a prerequisite of control chips, and for certain reasons. Also the original mod released a few years ago and which has become hard to find uses more capacitors on its circuit to certainly stabilize electronic fluctuations.
hey is there any other way to reach out to you, i want to ask a couple of questions and i'm getting a few pcb made, and i'm a little confused on the BOM list, TIA
Very nice mod. Is it possible to combine ide to sata adapter then sata to usb3 adapter for the slim version, to replace one of the existing usb ports of ps2?
Hey! I've got a 900x and a retrogem sitting here... this mod looks fantastic, I don't see the 3d print files up anywhere, is there any chance you could share them please?
Excellent mod, this looks so cool, makes me want to update the mods I have on my PS2. I'm sure there are some that will complain about SATA speeds but it's entirely unnecessary for this older console as it can't read or process data even nearly as fast as 5GBps threshold. I'd like to see a mod upgrade for the DVD drive, only thing I ever see is replacing it with eMMC cards (when there's already external storage) which defeats the purpose of owning physical discs. I guess back stocks of SATA SSD's are running out if they're hard to find and pricey, I bought one for an older laptop last year for ~$34 for 1TB on Amazon.
