Welcome to your "local" mom and pop video shop! The owners aren't minding the store, so they've left a couple clerks named Joel and Tyson in charge. And while the bosses are away, instead of doing real work, these guys will be sharing interviews, reviews, recommendations and discussing anything and everything related to the era of video rental stores, movie collectibles, and pop culture fandom with you, our loyal customers!
I love that you consider your subscribers as members. I loved those video shop membership cards...thank for the nostalgia! Thanks for the SHOUT OUT, BROTHER!!!
Thanks, man! I appreciate you supporting the channel. Especially because you’re one of those “have-known-me-for-so-long-I-wouldn’t-blame-you-for-not-watching” people! 🤣
I’m sure William Castle was accommodating to Joan Crawford. I can see him telling his assistant, just make sure there are no wire hangers in her dressing room:) Seriously though, her performance was fantastic in this. Excellent conversation as always:)
No worries! It wasn’t “live”. When I list a video as having a “Premiere” for some reason YT shows it like a livestream. But TOTT is recorded in advance.
Much like Tyson, remember seeing this as a kid on Commander USA or TNT Nitro. LOVED IT. Had no idea what it was, but hunted it down about 10 years ago to revisit. Probably need to find it again. Do they ever tie it into the true story that happened? Check out "1976 Chowchilla kidnapping".
@@momandpopvideoshop I just re-listened to the episode "The Chowchilla Kidnapping" from the Muriel's Murders podcast. I forgot how absurd and incompetent the kidnappers were. It is a fun listen.
I've loved Dr. Giggles so much ever since picking up the rental in our local Swedish video rental store way back when. Larry Drake was awesome in it. I really wished it had spawned of a sequel or two but alas...
I finally found showdown in Tokyo with Dolph Lundgren in Brandon Lee rest in peace really cool movie is Scott the guy from Mortal Kombat his name is kind of hard to pronounce Shang. Tsung is in the video games and stuff the new fighting games that was really quiet heard people talk about showdown Tokyo with that was pretty cool movie, so yeah, I like Dolph Lungren and he’s an expandable late like the last one. I think Jason Statham in my opinion carried most of that one but now I know the movie I love to see you guys were viewers don’t kill it it’s an alien, sci-fi movie with doll phone number he’s kind of like Kind of like an X-Files kind of guy are Grimm if you member the TV show if you ever seen it, or he hunts ghost or spirit in Cryptids, it’s really cool even produced dolphin produce it. It’s kind of cool seeing him kind of kick back and say funny words and I’ll cut on different cut a Cunt comedy type of rules. He’s doing with Action because he’s always been son of a scary kind of straight for a guy and it’s kind of cool to see him get to kind of kick back a little bit. He’s been doing a lot of those tiny movies now that either direct to video or ones in the theater. He’s been able to have some kind of saying his movies cause he likes to have a little. He’s doing a little bit more different with more variety but now I don’t kill it’s really cool movie. I don’t know where to find out and found it yet, but I wash it for free on RU-vid like two years ago I think I still watch it.
I love your video guys knew to your channel. Just found your channel in my recommendations on movie nerd fandom type stuff love this this is my favorite Van Damme Dolph Longren movie big fan of both those guys got a lot of movies my collection know the answer your question I think in my opinion when he’s at the diner with that chick went outside to make a phone call either of you know Salzer different they’re not terminator they’re not RoboCop Darth Vader kind of ring a bell machines half people half Machines I don’t know I still don’t understand because genetically enhanced to be like they’re grown, but maybe not kind of like I guess maybe like well wolverine or Deadpool as far as experiment maybe that’s what they were going for but I think the reason he was watching people eat he forgot when he was alive because he’s technically dead but he doesn’t age kind of like a vampire. I think that’s kind of what the story is, but I didn’t even know there was a Nintendo game of universal soldier too. I don’t know if you guys know that either, but anyway, have a good week man you got a new subscriber here.
I just watched Dr. Giggles for the first time, since it is available on Shudder. I freaking loved it, it's not even the type of horror I gravitate to, but man this was a blast! Going to add it to my 31 days of Halloween watch rotation. Great vid!
In my opinion, forcing a franchise never seems to work unless it is based on a book. This is a fun and goofy movie. I just remember being impressed by the kill scenes and thinking, "yeah, this writer and director should be on the FBI serial watch list."
Very cool! I worked in video shops from 1984 to...woah, Laserdisc/DVD shops in 2004. Glad to find this site via a cool interview with a cool, and truly videoshop, filmmaker!
Never stop doing the bit :) First Blood is one of the best movies of all time. Our first introduction to PTSD and the directions it can take. Stallone's work in the forest reminds me of Tom Hanks on castaway, it was all done with limited dialogue, but it hits hard.
Yeah, I think that’s a possibility. We try and do the reviews as off-the-cuff/pre-Google/imdb as possible. So a lot of times dates, names, etc. are from memory or off the box (if available). That said, it definitely varies depending on where something was first released.
Fellas! I wanted to THANK YOU for the copy of "For God's Sake...Let Us In" that I won by emailing you after Anthony Moran's episode. Super cool that Anthony included a branded barf bag with the DVD, classic! Michigan Horror is alive and well!
Adding a comment simply to help the algorithms. Your genres, presentation, and joy in you content should be better rewarded with viewer eyeballs. Keep it up!
Joel, I love the passion. I can tell by how you are talking about the movie, that it is a five taper. I have seen this but need to go back and see it again.
This is an industrial banger from back in the day. About twenty years ago, my mate had to point out to me that the samples were from Universal Soldier. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZWNQw_9WmQk.htmlsi=mf8qUmhV6mZWYgWG
Gents, another banger. This was one I DID SEE, and I thought the chemistry was pretty good. Still wows me that Dolph is a Chemical Engineering Fullbright Scholar and one hell of drummer...whereas Damme can do crazy splits and dance...poorly :)
Rabid horror fan and have seen so many disturbing things over the years but I will always refer back to this movie and the scene where the membrane is stretched across his mouth as the thing that gave me nightmares then when it first came out and even to this day!!! Such a GREAT movie!!
To me with streaming There is not the excitement anymore with new films that I got in theatres and going to the video store. Anticipation waiting in line then waiting for the house lights to go down. On the way home with the tape and thinking, Oh Man I can't wait. By The Way new subscriber.
I'm kinda impressed y'all managed to have the laser disc sleeve in front of you and still managed to get the year wrong and pronounce Sean Astin's name wrong multiple times. This format seems fun but you might need to do a few more takes
