its an experiment on my part ,using only the cameras n gear i have on hand now . and attempting to get point of view video of my adventures with archery . target and 3d and pole archery . Mostly using traditional styles of shooting and bows ,from my growing collection . My goal is to have fun . Keep having fun guys .
Not sure on date I can guess a range Easiest is to say No later than 1965 Since that's about when rolled steel bows Stopped being sold . These started being made in 1930s Stopped before 1965 So it's a date range The Kestrel was advertised in 1950s As for string it Carefully and with a bow stringer . Do not use too short of a string definitely do not have more than 7 inch brace height . Do not want to much tension on these limbs considering age and reputation for folding . Challenge is at 7 inch brace height the hand shock is quite high .
I think the fact that Armin had a TopArchery bow delaminate after a review a few years ago really hurt there name and reputation. The more guys like you that tell it like it is will maybe help the rep but then maybe the prices will go up??? So maybe we should keep it our little secret. ; )
How would you classifiy this bow? Would you just refur to it as a horse bow? I call it a traditional recurve. Ali Express calls it a "46" traditional longbow recurve bow." ??? I think something got lost in the translation. It looks like my 45lb Bear solid fiberglass bow I had as a kid. Beautiful what ever you call it. How is it to shoot?
It's ok to shoot . It's a horse bow or a short bow It's shape is kinda tartar influenced . I now have three of them 30 40 n 50 pounds Been meaning to do a comparison video Shooting same arrow with same spine For example. Contrast speed. Then Shooting arrows matched to each bow With same grain per pound ratio . I am guessing the fps will be dramatic Difference. With same arrow . But With same grain per pound and spine matched arrow to each bow . The fps should be either same or very close . That's with same shooter n technique Averaged over minimum 10 arrows .
@@kmarchery That sounds interesting I hope to see it soon. Thanks for the video. BTW I just got my bow 40 Lb@28 I see what you mean about the stacking after 28" I can pull mine to 30" but at a gain of 6 lbs. It is still new though it may loosen up a bit after it is shot in a bit. Like Armin says " it shoots where you point" I can't get over how tiny it is. I have one of those plastic crab bows and it is smaller than it. Fun fun fun.
I guess I should have watched this video before I just purchased that very bow for $94.68 cad now on sale. My regular draw lenth is 28" but my thumb draw is??? According to the ad it stated max draw at 32" so I thought it would pull that, but for under a $100.00 cad I will find a use for it. Thanks Luke.
These bows stack at 28 Have three now 30 40 50 @28 Been meaning to do more videos Which is why I bought three weights . Just been way to busy . Life is like that . Cheers I enjoy it these as plunkers
I too have purchased some bows from TopArchery because of the price. I wanted to try bear bow string walking so I purchased a 19" ilf riser for $56.00 cad and some 40lb ilf limbs for $51.75 and another set of 45lb ilf limbs for the same price. Bamboo core recurve ilf limbs for just over $50 cad. I wouldn't have tried traditional bows if it wasn't for the reasonable prices available from these Chinese companies. I have purchased a Blackhunter longbow with 35lb and 55lb limbs for under $150.00 cad also a Junxing 128 compound bow for $388.00 which shoots better than my Hoyt and Browning bows costing over a $1000.00 yrs ago. My latest purchase is a 46" 40lb tarter styled bamboo / glass recurve for under $100.00 from TopArchery to try thumb draw. I would never be able to try all these styles of archery if not for the price and quality of these bows not to mention the arrows, sights, release aids, etc. etc. Thanks for your video it lets me know I am not alone. Luke
No It won't break I used it for a couple years then sold it Nusense on you tube has had his for Longer . It's a wrapped fiber glass bow with wood syahs So would take a lot to break it
@@braianramos4048 Kinda But I wouldn't No rest to shoot off You shoot off your thumb or hand Depending on your draw technique . Stick with feather fletched arrows
No man should ever be pulling a bow under 62'. Using the thumb draw eliminates the finger pinching but establishing an anchor looks problematic. At least you're not doing some three under string walking nonsense.
???????????? Really The three finger under is just a progression from pinch grip. Worked for plains Indians quite well. 62" is a longbow not all bows are the same. Get yourself a H1 bow from Alibow bow, then come back.
Interesting statement. I disagree with it as a statement I enjoy shooting all kinds of bow lengths Predominantly shorter as I am biased, being short myself. Can't remember length of a "longbow" I got from Kijiji that I'm really enjoying right now . I generally do not use string walking techniques To lazy to practice it Have friends who are very successful using those methods. So I won't dismiss them or it . My usual statement Is that Archery is technology that has been invented reinvented adapted adopted n Innovated for thousands of years Across the globe n peoples . I just love to watch sticks fly Cheers
archery you could buy different tips that made arrows stand up in wood/grass etc,,also you could fletch the arrows to have different flight path/distance..I am 74 yrs old this october.
My names Roy Wilson and for my 9th birthday in 1958 I bought conder 60lb pull and 12 steel tube arrows .You strung the bow by putting the bottom lug on and bending it between the back of your left leg and over you right shin after about a dozen times of doing it became pretty easy .I used to do field archery coming 2nd once against adults In field archery I made my own arrows because you would steel or aluminium ones too easy.In field
Interesting I have never tried It's kinda nerve wracking Since it is old n a steel "string" The reputation is tube steel take down bows can fail at full draw I have spoken to friends who witnessed one Failing like that some time in the 90s . The pole archery clubs that used these from the 1950s stopped using them over the years . I will think about trying it for flight archery
I'm 6'5" and I actually like shorter bows. My draw length is only 27" due to injuries, but even if my draw length was 31" I just like the shorter compact bow anywhere between 48" - 56". Nice bow you have there - God bless.
That is an absolutely beautiful bow! I'm really liking the shorter bows myself .... I just made a 51" bow (Actually just the riser .... a very short riser just 12" long.) It's 48" strung up and it's my best shooting bow. Thanks for sharing and God bless!
Don`t be frightened to use this bow. I bought my 50lb condor new , when I was 17 old , that`s 61 years ago. Still pulls a full 50 lbs. Still original string.. Used it to hunt rabbits in the day, before the UK went into a left wing nanny state. Now only use it for field archery,.. There are 2 coming up in an auction next week , probably go for peanuts, so might pick them up to add to my collection.. Good idea to spray oil down the inside every year or so.
This set up is for Roland Bohr's Archery station an display At the festival. He and I have been trying to Get out to different places to promote The U of W programs . He at moment, is with his students at a field course making bows .
I'm reasonably happy Going for rock art style This is third version I've done now Still want a bigger one But that would need a bigger stand to move to and from sites . the one I have now is big enough to man handle.
Next archer station will be bigger For the medieval festival. Going to paint a shield wall Without knights n warriors The carny style station Will also be horse archery.
The next archery station for the medieval festival. Will be a tarp with a shield wall No knights cause that would be a bit much for kids . Will have three saw horses with saddles For patrons n kids to shoot from . At the shield wall As if they are riding in front of it . It will be carny like the intention is to plant archery seed n have fun .
Asiatic bows r good bows really if you buy those costing 300 plus and with the right poundage and draw length, your bow is good but of low poundage so expect that it will not be extremely fast to shoot the arrows.
this is good laminated bamboo core bow. i have 1. it solid evergreen product id say. lol really less vibration handshock. you are not stupid papa 😂 this bow is elite!
I am enjoying it I'm not really a long bow shooter Mostly short bows Either Asiatic or north american I scored a 52 inch Shakespeare sierra For 60 dollars cad . It's in pretty good shape for a factory bow That was only made from 1973 to 1976 I haven't researched the serial number I just like the idea of a fun 50 year old bow shooting sticks . At some point I will make a video about it
