Thanks for this, Emma; I’m surprised at myself that i had not heard of this previously. It’s a good initiative. I spend some time in Jamaica; in fact, I’m about to leave to go down there soon (unfortunately for the month of August! 😊). Makes me wonder whether anything like this can be sparked in a place like that as well. Happy vacation! - Dave Huntsman
I think the narrative around climate change is often blown out of proportion. While environmental issues are important, the level of alarmism can sometimes overshadow practical solutions and realistic perspectives. It's crucial to have a balanced view and focus on actionable steps rather than constant fear-mongering.
Americans have only recently passed new laws to prevent others from going near the place where they claim to have landed on the moon. Are you beginning to panic when you see the seriousness of the Chinese people and the attitude of doing what they say?😂😂
With regard to NASA contracting development of an ISS deorbit vehicle- as it is required to do, as the INTEGRATOR of the ISS-the other International Partners have not volunteered any funds/efforts to ‘help’ the US carry out that responsibility. Nor has the US government outsourced the responsibility, as you almost imply, to SpaceX; it simply contracted for design, development, & delivery on site of hardware to the government- as per usual for all. I take Very strong issue that deorbitng ISS may in the act be ‘deorbiting’ the whole idea of working peacefully in space as well. The commercial LEO space stations are starting to shape up as replacements in that regard. For example, StarLab: “Starlab Space- a joint venture created by U.S.-based Voyager Space with Europe’s Airbus - has already forged a pact with the European Space Agency to host ESA astronauts and spacecraft in what could be the globe’s first independent space station. Expanding their joint venture to include Japanese rocket designer Mitsubishi Corporation and Canadian space robotics inventor MDA is also likely to attract astronauts from those two space-power states to the Starlab Station.” www.forbes.com/sites/kevinholdenplatt/2024/06/07/above-the-earths-wars-starlab-aims-to-be-orbital-beacon-of-peace/ While it does not include Russia, there is a very good reason for that; and it’s not just because they’ve invaded a European country; they have also recently increased their belligerence in space as well, as the above article notes. There is no realistic way of starting new space programs with Russian as long as the current ‘leadership’ & behavior remains in place- you know that- & that is not the fault of the democracies. There’s also something else to accept: The fact that when US folded Russia directly into the ISS it was, actually, an anomaly for a very proud country; they were falling apart that year, and the US took many positive actions- including bringing them into ISS- to keep their aerospace engineers from fleeing and going off and doing bad things. Now, both China, and Russia, insist on having their own space stations. They won’t be deterred from it- period. We just have to accept that. Russia just announced their new space station program. The good news, from my point of view, is that it will be in a new orbit- much more polar, unique for a space station, which brings its own value-added. IF, in the 2030s, Russia can UN-make itself as a pariah nation again- and if China can do the same - we can hope for a constant exchange of visits and experiments among the many sets of very different stations in very different orbits doing very different things. As the article points out, in fact, the more space stations in orbit by more countries, the less likely prospect of armed conflict in LEO. But that’s not all under our control in the west. What we Can do, is express our interest in doing things like that- pointing to the ISS as the stellar example, how we kept it going with Russia even during their terrible Ukraine aggression- to counter the constant propaganda inside China et al about a belligerent West in space. - Dave Huntsman
To my European friends: Since you packed a broad-brush of comments in a short time, I’ll separate out my comments. First: on Eumetsat picking SpaceX over Ariane 6: This is a clear case where some true investigative space journalism is needed: Why- seriously- was Ariane 6 not able to capture a European organization as a customer- something it was literally tailor made- at taxpayer expense, I might add- to do? NO EUROPEAN SPACE JOURNALIST is digging to get facts to answer the question- as, unfortunately, is usual- and THAT is part and parcel of Europe’s space competitiveness problem. We NEED Europe to step up; but that requires Everyone to step up-including European space journalism. DIG! Dig from Eumetsat; Dig from taxpayer-funded Arianespace and Ariane group; dig on relative prices offered, on schedules, on guarantees. Do NOT complain - as, with respect, I maintain you are (indirectly) doing- about ‘sovereignty’; because that’s about spoon-feeding, which Arianespace may be assumed it had a ‘right’ to, instead of honestly competing. And- again, with respect- you as space journalists seem to have the same disease: assuming they had a ‘right’ to the contract, instead of honestly having to compete for it, despite already having built-in advantages. My personal guess is, THAT may have been the undoing here. PLEASE: Europe needs to stand up in space; but it will Not get there by insisting on spoon feeding an industry/contractor- or, its own media. Let’s start by focusing on a media that also needs to, first and foremost, do ITS part in INSISTING ON EUROPEAN SPACE COMPETITIVENESS (sorry for shouting!). And I speak as a friend of Europe who feels it’s in Earth’s interests for the democracies to be the one’s modernizing/competing in space- instead of a Chinese Communist Party-controlled PRC being the country doing so. Please take this as constructive criticism. - Dave Huntsman
The national insecurity of a certain country is being elevated to dangerous levels with this perfect & successful event that Chin a could bring further for mankind ... 😅
Chinese just demonstrated his inter planet hypersonic missile technology. If the lander became Chinese missile, I bet it could destroy any target 380 thousand kilometers away with perfect accuracy, since the lander using parachute drifted only 680 meters off target .😅
CHINA IS NOT SENDING A SIGN TO THE U S. THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND US AMERICANS. CHINA IS DOING ITS OWN THING NOT COPYING OR CARE WHAT THE U.S THINKS. THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR 5000 YEARS. THE U.S ONLY 250 YEARS AND 75 YEARS AS A SUPER POWER 30 YEARS UNIPOLAR. THE CHINESE DO NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT WHAT THE U.S IS DOING OR NOT DOING.
NASA chief said China has stolen IP from the US to send space module to the moon and collects moon soil and rocks. As the US lays claim to be the first moon explorer and occupier, ( Even if the 1969 Apollo mission to the moon was a fake.) anyone who goes to the moon and collect moon soil must surrender to the US .
Thumb up to BBC, the only mainstream news agency so far has pronounced the Chinese goddess correctly. It’s Chang Er (approx) not Chang I. Just like president XI is not president 11.😅
Interesting thing is: based on the US Lunar earth sample (density and composition), Chang’e-5 aimed to collect 2KG but only managed to bring back 1.7KG. China studied this self-collected sample and applied what they had learned to Chang’e-6. This time round, it was 1.935KG. Clearly, the sample shared by US has been intentionally or unintentionally misleading the previous Chinese Lunar mission. 😊
The us had acquired 700+ kg of moon samples. Yet they only gave 1 gram of sample to China on the day they changed diplomatic relations to mainland China! 🤣🤣🤣
Regrettable dishonesty to compare the Chinese time frame handover of this sample with the "almost immediately" from the Americans' Apollo half century ago, thus inferring that the Americans were more kindly. Btw, NASA has the nerves as it'll bid for a share of this sample 😆
dont believe america gave access to their samples "almost immediately" lst as she said the rocks samples have to be quarantined After that, they would analyse the rocks lst which will take sometime
america is so butthurt seeing China's achievment in space exploration. China is just doing their thing, don't care and no need to compete with any country.
20years ago U.S. blocked China out of the ISS, and now you want their moon sample from the “dark side “? In about 3-5 years the only space station in space is from China and they did it all by themselves….. have you guys realized how young their engineers and scientists are from all these space mission videos? They will lead the world in this regard.
I request for China. the soil collected from moon And bring the earth. don't share US or NASA, China don't forget what US did long time ago. China try to visit International Space Station and US not allowed TO CHINA , So China never forget. What US DID ,,,
So how many countries in the international space community spoke out for China when USA decided to throw China out of the community and barred them? So why should China be expected to share the moon samples immediately when they did all the hard work despite the sanctions placed on them and nobody spoke out (especially the Europeans and Japan). The fact that China was willing to share the previous samples with USA shows they are not playing petty games like the USA.
Getting more and more suspicious by the day when you compare the pictures/videos from this mission with the ones from Apollo 11. This lander is supposed to be much smaller, yet it had a large imprint on the lunar soil when landing. However, there's no imprint from Apollo 11's lander.
Congratulations to China❤ absolutely amazing and the best 🎉 you achieved the impossible as NASA head said the the far side of the moon is always dark, how could you do that😂 with such an ignorant and shameful, incompetent statement, NASA is no longer a scientific agency any more. 😢 I have full confidence in Chinese space program ❤
@@hyeung1 Sixty years ago, the United States broadcast the moon landing live without delay, and the president even made a phone call and had a non-delayed conversation with the astronauts. How did they do that in an era without 3G, 4G, or 5G? Zero delay! They also brought a lunar buggy and drove on the moon. How did they do that?😅😅😅
@@sjtyuki Haha, NASA brought the internal combustion engine buggy to the moon for the astronaut to drive for fun even when there is no oxygen on the moon. Also NASA brought a lamp to the moon so that the astronauts shadows can follow them where ever they go even though the moon has no lighting.. NASA also brought a fan to the moon so that the American flag can wave on the windless moon surface.
I say to thee, but not to me. There’s simply just “NOT” enough Lunar Samples to go around for all the Countries/Nations in the World - so, the U$A will just “simply” have to go to “Far Side” of the Moon for the #1st time on its own and retrieve it for its Scientific Community. Modern American Democracy is #1 so, the U$A wouldn’t want the rest of the World to know that the U$A is relying on a “Communistic” Country/Nation like China to render Lunar Samples to the “Mighty United States Of America” - would we? That wouldn’t reflected a positive image on the U$A for the rest of World to see - - - just don’t rely or used the Boeing’s Space Shuttle to get there because it might be “too safe”!…👍😅😂🤣🤦🏽🤦🏾♀️🤦🏻♂️🙅🏽♀️🙅♂️🙅🏻
In the US and its allies, this achievement is widely viewed as China competing or challenging US dominance in the space. However in China, it is viewed as an important step toward its destiny “ our objective is amid of stars and galaxies (中华民族的目标是星辰大海)”. Chinese officials never made any reference to US and its space dominance.
Why should China share the samples with USA when they wouldn’t even allow china to use the international space station 20 years ago? Thus, china built their own and they are ahead in space research.
@@sunnysunshine2654 Exactly! The US played nasty using VISA to the US as a tool to prevent Chinese delegates from attending the international conference.
@@neo_smith Soviets were first. Not American. American stole it from the Soviets, and stole Von Braun from the Nazi Germans. China beated everyone to reach the Far Side of the Moon and became the first country to retrieve Far Side of the Moon sample. India beated US & Russia to reach the South Pole of the Moon. China can't steal human Moon landing tech because US had already 'lost' the tech for 50 years it seems... China is trying to get humans on the Moon by 2030 (or earlier). And if China gets the 1st Moon base going...US would be behind...
@@neo_smith American copied the Soviet into space. And stole Nazi German scientists. China is getting closer and closer to put humans on the Moon as well. And if they establish the first lunar base US would DEFINITELY fall behind 😆 🤣
Wow ! Even an expert, a former NASA scientist, made simple error of referring to the far side as dark side. NASA administrator Bill Nelson also said dark side of the moon. My question is did all NASA personnel, technical or non- technical, made the same dark side reference in their meeting, conference, literature, record etc ?
Come on show respect. One of the job entry question for nasa, 'is the moon flat?' If you answer no you get the job. So, come on, these guys are abive average 😂😂😂
The vision is the product of evolution, our eye is one of them. Cats can only see everything as green or brown colors. Open your mind to see different national flags.
@@7150285 The US space agency has issued a warning not to allow Chinese lunar exploration equipment to approach their lunar landing site. Why is that? Are they afraid that others will see that there is nothing there?
OK, NASA went to the moon to bring samples back in the mid 60's and 70's, and NASA claimed all records for that period are all destroyed. Here is an interesting article: The moon rock was given by USA in about 1970 to Netherlands Prime Minister Willem Drees. He kept the gift in his private collection until his death in 1988. The rock was given by his estate to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. It was discovered the rock was a fake - a bit of fossilised wood. 🤣😂. Of course NASA went to the moon, so there should be a lander and a couple of moon buggies on the moon when they return, just plug in a new battery and the moon buggies should fire up, no air and oxygen so no oxidation, just dust, maybe some lubricant too. Heard the moon can be very cold, so the lubricant may not be what it used to be. Here is another news article about NASA's moon rock "www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna32581790"
are you sure the Apollo mission had given you the soil sample from the moon? or just from the earth? Netherland's sample from the US was fake for sure.
