Commandos 2 is the best in the series, it's a masterpiece. I am still playing it, alongside Robin Hood : The Legend of Sherwood and Desperados 2, which, again, it's the best in the Desperados series. Slow gameplay ? well, it's a stealth game, not a first person shitter. And the 3rd person when you do not need to be in stealth, it's a blessing. In the first Desperados game, there is only real time, bird's eye view, or isometric, whatever you want to call it. To be stealthy was almost out the window and the isometric view made it difficult to hit a target. That was bad when you were getting rushed by multiple enemies. In Desperados 2, some missions require you to be stealthy all the way or to a certain part of them. After that, you switch to 3rd person and kick ass. The 3rd missions, with Doc only, it's awesome. He has no need for stealth. His Colt has a longer barrel than Cooper's, making it more accurate and with a bit more range but not a fast shooting weapon. He can also turn it to it's SNIPER variant, which the uploader, didn't mention AT ALL. Desperados 2 and the Robin Hood game are awesome in certain ways. In Robin Hood, the music, the setting, everything feels like old times, even some chat. It immerses you well, to the point that it feels as if you're watching a Robin Hood movie but you are the director.

Hello and thank you for this video, which I found well prepared. Are you planning to do some updates on Commando like releases since you made the video (if there was any)? I am currently playing Partisans 1941 and I understand your point about the russian propaganda. I like the game and my only complaint is the lack of a real coordinate action mode. The tactical pause isn't enough IMO. I'll definitly check Shadow tactics!

There were a bunch of updates (Shadow Gambit released, Red Glare and Frigato released, a bunch of games were announced, other commenters pointed out some stuff I missed, etc.). I wish to make an update video at one point, but I won't do it until Commandos: Origins is out, I think. We'll see!
@aleksapetrovic6519
@aleksapetrovic6519 Месяц назад
How is Partisans 1941 a propragnda? It is the nost generic story. You are nasically fighting Russian collaborators with ocational German soldier. You can literally transport the entirestory to French partisans or Greek partisans and nothing would change. As for other games I recommand Hidden & Dangerous, Crookz - The Big Heist and Invisible Inc. (Not sure if Invisivle. Inc is part of the genre, haven't played it yet).
@waskerton
@waskerton Месяц назад
@@aleksapetrovic6519 Glad to clarify: Partisans 1941 is a one-sided positive depiction of Russian military. It does not tackle any uncomfortable topics. You're correct that the story could be transplanted to any other country: it's simple, all it does is celebrate the successes and moral superiority of Russian state and people. I'm not normally bothered by propaganda like that, and I wasn't at the game's original release. As I explained, the ongoing war has soured me on it. I am sure you can imagine I'm less inclined to celebrate the past greatness of the country perpetrating war crimes just outside my homeland's borders. That said, I don't know much about the creators of the game and I am willing to assume their angle was entirely innocent. Thanks for the recommendations! Some of these have appeared in the comments already and are on my list. Will give them a try eventually!

@@waskerton 1. It is I who should thank YOU. I look for videos like these to see new games and you delivered. Conzo is pure stealth game about hiest, Hidden & Dangerous can be best described as "Commando in 1st/3th persion" (I know what you said about criterias, but I do belive it deserves a spot) and Invisible Inc I haven't played, but it looks like at first glance it can fall in the category as it is about stealth team doing objectives (haven't seen cons tough). 2. I am not going to dwel into politics who is right or wrong, but I assure you got it wrong with this one. If you watched a single WW2 movie from ex-Soviets you would see it is generic. I can even imagine roles for some actual Russian actors playing the roles. As for depicition let's see. Red army is mentioned two times, first in the very beggining that Red Army is pushed far away and doesn't even know you exist for the most part and in the very last scene when Commisar describes a parade where soldiers marched streight into Battle of Moscow (true event). As for uncomftrible topics, again I really don't see your point. You are behind enemy lines and most of your enemies are German collaborators who are shown to betray their neighbors and doing many brutalities (one can argue they are worse then Germans). Then there is what I really love a looting mechanic which is good to aquire arms from the enemy and the dead, but also you can loot the houses which while obviously depicited as bad (your team loses morale which from gameplay standpoint is a punishment for either poorly managing resources or being greedy) also point to the fact that Partisans when necessary did loot (that is general rule, not exclusive to Soviets). And also for crying out loud, part of your team is a literal career criminal (thief in law). I really fail to see how is that "moral superiority and success" because on one hand your had literal traitors, while on the other hand the reason why your Partisan group exists is Red Army failed and keeps failing (4 of your teamates are soldiers who were captured or left behind by the army, 2 are civilians and 1 is a proper Officer who says fight is going on, but we are failing). That is far more then Company of Heroes that didn't even hint of Americans rapping French women or indescriminate bombing even toward civilians in occupied territory. And honestly we don't need it every time, I wouldn't be happy to have what I said in Company of Heroes and I am very happy that it doesn't have that (just as I really didn't like CoH2 campaign especially since some things were factually wrong) or that Il-2 and Microsft Combat Flight Simluator are just WW2 shooters. If you want actual propaganda games here are the following I am aware of: Syrian Warfare (Russian and Syrian forces fighting ISIS, at least Syrians were given credit for fighting for their own country) almost every modern military shooter like Medal of Honor or Homefront (they even proudly say how much they cooperate with US military), 1971: Indian Naval Warfare, Company of Heroes 2 (campaign has factually wrong info sometimes out of pure malice), Command & Conquer: Generals, Ancestores Legacy (same guys who created War Mongrel, all campaigns are good, but playing Teutonic and Polish campaign becomes very obvious they have certain favoritism), War Front: Turning Point (game is so Hungarian nationalist I am amaized it didn't drop atomic bomb on Trianon palace) Marauder (I haven't played one, but the stort is experience, trust me), Planet Alcatraz (made by a guy called Goblin who is OG Russian shitposter, but also nationalistic. The result is exactly what it sounds).

@waskerton Месяц назад
@@aleksapetrovic6519 1/ Glad the video was helpful then! Comments like yours make the effort worth it. :) 2/ I see your point and I see how there are lots of other games that are much cleaner and inambiguous examples of propaganda. I don't wish to argue much further, but I'm not changing my viewpoint, so let me provide one final paragraph of justification. :) I don't believe Partisans game is too generic to be propaganda. When pushing an agenda, the simpler and more digestible the message, the more effective it is. You point out the game having some grit to it (criminal on the team, etc.), which is fair enough, though hardly an uncomfortable topic compared to, say, crimes of the Stalinist regime. The message of Partisans 1941 is still, in my view, Russian partisans = good, and my concern is that to some people the natural conclusion will be that Russian military / state - by association - also = good. We may revisit the topic in a few years once the bombs stop falling in Ukraine: until then I can only admit I have a huge, huge bias, and nothing short of a peace treaty will change it. :D

You missed Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steal. You have to go into options and turn on CTBS (Continuous Turn Based Strategy) mode, this turns Fallout Tactics into a great game. Some of the mechanics are a bit slow (storing loot), but in the fallout universe hiding bodies is a stupid waste of time, greatly improving game play. it is not a very good game in Turn Based mode because it is too slow. Turning on CTBS mode basically turns it into a great Real Time Tactics game. In my view this game was ahead of its time and i still have never found anything like it, though it is obviously a Commandos-like-real-time-stealth(optional)-tactics game. it is a merger of Commandos and Fallout leveling and looting. Hi Waskerton! Thank you for your great video. I am Chinese and I can confirm that the Mission 1937 has indeed some notability in China. I remembered reading the reviws of that game on Teenage Software magazines (which most kids buy because of the game section) back in early 2000s. And I did manage to play it for a while in around 2005. The game borrows heavily from Commandos and the character cast in it almost have a 1-to-1 reference from the characters in Commandos. The AIs are stupid. And if your reflex is good, you don't really need to care about breaking stealth and it becomes somekind of click shooting action game. That being said, the game is actually playable and the gameplay feels kinda... OK. It takes heavy influence from the rich works(films, comedy, TV shows and comics) about Sino-Japanese War and have some nice interesting touch such as you can use live chicken to distract enemies ( not as effective as cigarettes because they run away randomly after being placed). Still, people who are not from China may barely enjoy it without the context.

War Mongrels worked with actual historians when consulting the events. Try to come at them with any history errors, because right now it looks like you simply cringe because you suffer from some weird nationality guilt, where it's really just your problem with being Polish, rather than "Poles having problem with perception of their history". I've replayed War Mongrels since and it's indeed much better now. I consider re-reviewing it one day, but making videos is hard and time-consuming. :) That said, the game released in such a poor state that it makes Cyberpunk 2077 launch look like a masterpiece by comparison. So I strongly disagree, the critique of the state of the game at launch is well deserved. I can give some bugs a pass, but if a game's state is so dire at launch that even the save system doesn't work, the developer should either delay it or label it as early access, or be ready to deal with unhappy customers.
