Thanks for the video. How well would you say these compare to the Festool Granat? I just recently tried the 80grit Granat and have really liked it so far. They last way longer than the Cubitron xtract. So I’ll be using the Granat unless these are just as good then I’ll get these serious grit since they are cheaper :)

I was going to ask in the previous video about staining/sealing the c-channel and I see you went in the best you could... the deep legs appear that you did not try an coat them well as the top of channel where the thread inserts are. How is my observation? I am ready to seal my own table and am looking at how much I need to seal the C-Channel areas

What would u recommend on how high would u go up the grits on live edge table without resin? Love the dark water pop as it were take it that's just a wood dye and what do u think to beeswax and Danish oil as a finish? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍
@3brothersmillworks721
@3brothersmillworks721 2 года назад
Thanks for the support, for what grit to go to the, answer depends on the finish you are using as well as the feel you want for the wood. Many finishes won’t adhere properly if the wood is sanded over 220 grit. For my tables I usually go up to 150-180 but I know people who prefer 120 because the wood feels more natural. The wood dye is actually a powder pigment I use for epoxy coloring. The client believed that the dye would be too harsh of a contrast. As far as beeswax and danish oil, I can’t say I have any experience with it. You could reach out to the manufacturer of the danish oil and see what they think. You’ll have to try it and let me know.

What about material removed? I have a lot of end grain boards to sand and do have a lot of that Serious Grit I bought a while ago and do like it but need to remove as much as possible as fast as possible, debating on buying some 3M Cubitron as I’ve seen that is the best but no one ever test it vs Serious grit because no one’s heard of it- wdyt?
@3brothersmillworks721
@3brothersmillworks721 2 года назад
Thanks for reaching out. I haven’t tried the 3m product although I hear it is good. I might do a head to head test. I hear the 3m product is good at not getting clogged up with dust. I don’t know which would be better with material removal. The only problem with the serious grit I have since found is that the backing doesn’t hold up very well to sharp or uneven surfaces, that may be something to consider. Other than that, try and use a powerful sander and lower grit of sandpaper.
@josephromero1596
@josephromero1596 2 года назад
@@3brothersmillworks721 yeah I’m looking into better sanders now too- I had bought the 5” Bosch about a year ago because it was very highly praised on here and online and it’s very smooth but not powerful at all - it’s a very slow sander but great for finishing or smaller projects

1:39 why still use tape when the table saw has built-in measure reading of fence distance?
@3brothersmillworks721
@3brothersmillworks721 2 года назад
That’s a great question. The table saw does have markings on it but the markings on mine show the distance from the center of the blade to the fence, so if I use them I will be a 16th of an inch off. I could just account for that when I set it, but I also trust the accuracy of my tape more and sometimes you figure the wrong number in your head and you can make a lot of mistakes if you’re accidentally off. So in short, I could use the saw scale but I feel better if I’m not using it and I make less mistakes.

Nice shop sounds peaceful around there especially with the birds chirping. I just ordered the festool ETS 125 req and a assortment pack of this serious grit. I see you posted this couple weeks back is it still favorable after using it a little bit longer?
@3brothersmillworks721
@3brothersmillworks721 2 года назад
Yes, our shop is in a wonderful spot. That’s great that you ordered a festool, they are great tools. So far I still like the sand paper, the only thing to watch out for which I have since learned is that if you are sanding rough edges and corners the backing tears easier than my previous sandpaper, so be careful with that or you can mess up the sanding disk. Other than that, no complaints.

@@3brothersmillworks721 yeah I think for now its gonna be mainly a finish only sander or at the very least use my Dewalt RO for the dirty work, but I have a feeling once I use the Festool Im gonna be hard pressed to use the Dewalt much

Yeah, I think the festool is hard to go back from, the power difference is big. I bought a Bosch RO to compare and I can’t use it because it is so much slower.
