When in recovery mode, can we just go straight to the 'Install Mac OS' option instead of first using Disk Utility to erase the start-up disk? Wouldn't that overwrite everything on the start-up disk and so you don't have to erase it beforehand?
I am following your instructions to downgrade from Big Sur to Catalina. Thank you it is very clear. Question: Can I use the time machine backup to restore the data from an external disk?
Hello Ash, I am trying this but the Mac HD is grayed out, unless I boot in recovery mode. I don’t know how to proceed in recovery mode after I erase. Any suggestions is appreciated!
Hey I it is showing me that command not found when I type it in the terminal and it's the exact same code I copied it from the description and even changed it to Untitled pls help
After I downloaded mac os catalina on the appstore, it says an error occurred while installing the updates…and it won’t show install mac OS Catalina as an app😔… Please help
I had the same issue while attempting to downgrade from Big Sur on a recently acquired IMac. Luckily, I had a machine still running Catalina that I was able to download Catalina from the app store and created the bootable media. I even attempted, on the IMac, to restore to High Sierra, the OS it came with from the factory, but that did not work either.
Hi Ashkap30, I watched all of your video trying to downgrade to Catalina. I managed to create the media file on usb drive, and restated my iMac. I was shown 2 options where to install Catalina. On Mackintosh HD Data, or on Update. I think I chose the wrong one because now I no longer see my Mackintosh Drive. In fact the only thing I see in Finder is... icloud, Update, and an external usb harddrive. How do I get my Mac Drive back ? and where should I install Catalina on the Mac Drive, or in Update ? Please help
Hey im having a problem, I am currently on the part where you install Catalina onto Macintosh HD, and the problem is that I don’t have enough space on my disk and I don’t know how to free up some space on my disk
Everything’s went well except the part with the „Option key“ I pressed the option immediately after restarting but It’ll get me back to Big Sur again! Why is that?
Probably should backup if you don't have them in iCloud. Example, All of my pictures and files are on my phone that is uploaded to the cloud and is the same on my Mac.. so I'm not worried about backing up.
/u/AshKap30 I am twitching to Mac BigSur 14; but I need to print something out today. so what’s the actual command to copy a .dmg to a usb, if you’ve forgotten it as I formatted correctly. Also if it is the nearest USb port cushlyyou write about about that too?
WARNING: Monterey bricks your intel Mac with a Firmware upgrade that means you can never run it on anything older than Big Sur. I was happily running Big Sur with an external USB High Sierra SSD available as well for using my 32Bit legacy applications on my Mid 2017 Kaby Lake iMac. After a PCIE and SATA upgrade I installed and booted from Monterey and then dumped it to go back to Big Sur and found that everything below Big Sur gave the error message "this OS is too old to run on this computer". Monterey Also killed the bluetooth side of the wifi card. Wifi still works thank goodness. A Bluetooth dongle now takes up one of the USB slots.
I just found you and thank God I did. Apple support was not very helpful although I must say that all the Customer Service reps were polite. No one had the time at Apple to walk me through it. You did though and now I have my computer back. Thank you so much.
