To need faith and belief in what you are doing is a poor reflection of that in which you are forcing yourself to stick to. The saddest part has to be that you came to India and remained not just distant and aloof but contemptuous to the deep spiritual traditions of that land. She was initially sure of the truth of her religion in the folly of her youth, which gave her all the excitement to share it with the world. Old age however made her wiser to the nonsense she was engaged in pedalling, the ignorance she had indulged herself in in her in ignorance. She basically ended up in a moral dilemma dressed up by the church as some spiritual 'Dark night of the soul.' The whole episode is in fact just sickening.
