I love the way you did the angled sides... splitting a board from corner to corner is genius

This design doesn't take into consideration the smell. This thing is not properly sealed.

I like the idea of up cycling used pallets into coffins. A sturdy coffin could be made with the material. However a new design will need to be developed. As it is built in the video, it is not strong. The handles would come off as soon as you lifted it with a body inside. And if the handles did somehow stay on, the corpse would fall straight through the bottom. For strength, the bottom boards need to run from side to side. Not lengthwise. And there needs to be some sort of nailer or ledger board to add strength where the bottom attaches to the sides. It's a great idea, the design just needs a few improvements.

Simple solution is to fit double handles and bolt the handles onto another vertical inside the coffin for extra stability. And as you point out, if the coffin was to be used as a "proper" one, then make more horizontal slats to cover the base. Its not rocket science - merely logic. I have already built one Halloween coffin BUT altered the dimensions as those stated were totally wrong. I also altered the lid to make it a split one.

OK here is a question for you...from your measurements, you use 14.5cm x 100cm boards and 14.5cm x 80 cm boards to make the base and lid for the coffin...YET when you cut the 10cm x 100cm board to make a 81cm length, according to section 02:37, the sides of the coffin are made up using 6 boards of 81cm length?? Impossible - the base is made from 100cm boards so how can a 81cm length possibly fit correctly?? Also, if you work out the width of top and bottom, as each board is 14.5 wide that equals 43.5cm...then add in the diagonally cut angle boards which i think would increase the actual base and lid end widths to an extra 10cm (roughly) making 53.5 cm at the widest. You state to cut 6 boards of 39cm to use for both ends - how can a 39cm board be used to fit a 43.5cm gap? Video is great but your calculations are way out - prove me wrong please !!!

Those handles don't look.strong enough, they break when it's occupied and OMG that's going to be a disaster!

Nice, but the angles are all wrong in my opinion. I wouldn't define this as a true toe-pincher type coffin. But that's just me. Not trying to be negative, I just prefer the more traditional toe-pincher look

Will it support 129lbs? Sure would be traumatic for my loved ones to fall out the bottom as they are carrying me.

Mine can hold 250lbs. If you use heavier wood screws with pilot holes so it doesn't split it will hold heavier weight and you can glue it between each board if you want

I love being thrifty, it costs around £5000 to be buried these days. I'm too poor to die at the moment sadly and good to think ahead economically. Plus the added comfort that I made it when the time comes x not unlike eating the first strawberry that you've spent ages growing. Anyone invented a DIY crematorium yet ?
