These things seem to have a known issue with bad performance in the low end and poor fuel economy almost like it was designed in from the factory. There's a few theories as to why it happens. Of course people talk about the classics like bad spark plugs, dirty air filter, dirty throttle body, vacuum leak, bad fuel pump and/or injectors etc. I read somewhere recently that it's actually due to over sensitive knock sensors which are designed that way from the factory, the pull back the ignition timing to protect the engine and in the process absolutely kill it's low end performance. My theory is they did it so it could run safely on low quality fuel given its a high compression motor, however it's recommended is premium fuel anyway. Subaru apparently can install a kind of software update to fix the knock sensors so they don't Rob the cars power and economy.
That is a GR. It doesn't have a stock twin scroll turbo. It has the vf52 or the td04, the vf47 was from a LGT if I recall. The 5 speed that came with it is probably the strongest 5 speed subaru made I'm not familiar with a SGT 5 speed either. There is a PPG gear kit for the 5 speed thats hypothetically stronger but I've not seen it to be in person. There is literally nothing good about this. As a tuner you should have told that owner to stuff that. Those tunes are AWFUL for an engine that already has prolific detonation issues and fragile ringlands. I've built many Subarus and nothing about this makes sense.
You’re ignorant if you’ve built many Subarus and this still doesn’t make sense to you. This isn’t a USDM setup, 2009 S-GT came with factory twin scroll setups and 20X/20Y.
Shows the auto NA owners that there are options for their cars as well too… there are a lot of ej204 cars that suffer from this issue and we a tree some of the very few places that actually support them and try and help ..
Nice! I also have a 6MT swapped H6. Nice to see someone here doing them professionally so more people can make it a reality. And the exhaust sounds great. A lot more tame than mine
