Mostly iRacing on here. I don’t always record, but if the grid looks tight, I’ll try and get it on here because it’ll be a good race.

One day, when I get some more time, I’ll get my 1210s set up for recording. House and scratching vinyl will be the flavour. A bit of Hardcore and Jungle Techno too. One of these days.....

I had this exact same issue with VirtualDJ DVS. I couldn't solve it and ended up migrating to Serato. I'm glad it's not just me.

you'll never get good measurements using tracks ... use the tools you have available eg. the serato noise map ... or get a record with a 1khz tone on it ... record that, and listen back to it from the vinyl and the recorded track... It's much easier to judge the difference with pure tones

That much drift is nearly impossible in absolute mode if everything is working correctly. Do you have doubles (exact same pressing) of any record? If you do, try playing them together on beat from the beginning. If you get drift too soon you have a problem with one of your decks.

Try borrowing a 3rd 1200 from a colleague and experiment by alternating between the 3. That experiment could help eliminate any of your 1200's as the source of your problem or it may point to one of your 1200's as the problem.

Your first test suggests to me that Mixx (and presumably some other programs) have a “latching” feature, where it can tell you’re trying to get two tracks perfectly aligned and will ever so slightly help you do so. The way to test this of course is to start a 10 minute track on both decks, not at 0% pitch, get them beat matched, start them both from the start and see if, once aligned, they stay perfectly aligned for the whole duration of the track, because if they do, that proves that Mixx is subtly helping you and VDJ isn’t, because there’s pretty much no way that 2 tracks on 2 turntables will stay that nicely sync’d for that long, without some kind of assistance.

The quickest way to absolutely rule out it being the TTs is to swap round the channels into the mixer and see if the one previously leading the other, starts to lag behind it. Also, see if it does it with a track you didn’t rip from vinyl, try swapping TT platters, swapping needles, make sure the needle weight is identical, lots of those A/B tests 1 at a time and keep notes of which affected things and how. I do know that on Traktor for example, there’s two different DVS modes, relative and absolute, and in at least one of those, if you were already playing a digital track at, say, +1% pitch, then immediately took over control with a DVS record that was playing at 0% pitch, the track will keep playing at +1%, it’s doing an interpolation between TT pitch and the pitch the software deck was set to beforehand, which might read 0.0 but is actually slightly off 0%. The reason to also test it with non vinyl rips, is because it’s possible you ripped a track when the TT hadn’t warmed up, or was more warmed up than when you tried to play it back with DVS. In my experience it’s pretty much impossible to get anywhere near perfect results, even on quartz lock the DVS pitch fluctuates ever so slightly above and below 0%, giving an average of 0%, but it may not always average to exactly 0% on every single playback, and a needle being dragged over a tune on vinyl will have a different amount of drag than the same needle being dragged over a DVS vinyl.

Recording ANYTHING off vinyl is never going to give you a steady grid. The platter might be turning at a perfectly constant speed during recording, but the physical properties of vinyl cause so many variables. The record is thicker in places and thinner in others. The 33/45 difference is not insignificant, you're running the needle over two difference physical mediums at different RPMs. It really doesn't prove any VDJ issues at all, it just highlights the issues with using vinyl rips.

I wondered about the amount of drift of recorded vinyl on the 1200's so I conducted an experiment some time ago. What I did was obtain a mint copy of Richie Hawtin's Spastik and recorded it with a quality sound interface (fopcusrite Saffire Pro 40), I then loaded the recording in to one side of Serato and loaded digital copy of Spastik on the other side. From there I synced them from beat one to see how far they would play until they went off beat. The trial lasted till the 7th or 8th minute mark before there was any noticeable drift. The Playback equipment I used where 2 1200's, a Rane 56 and A Rane SL1. I later tried a similar experiment with the same track only that time I used Pioneer XDJ 1000 MK2, a 1200 and Pioneer DJM 900 NXS2. The results that time were similar.

Its just a calibration issue bro! It wouldn't stop you from manually keeping it in-the-mix if you were doing a live gig! Would it? Peace✌

But it does. Sometimes is goes so far off I'm constantly touching the record and pitch. Basically means, I cannot focus on playing width the mixer knobs and such without constantly babysitting the pitch and platter

Not sure if you know this but it's not jst DVS on vinyl & turntables it keeps falling out of sync with but it does it even wen your jst using the virtual Dj software on it's own with your favourite tracks & your computer. sooo annoying.

I really not because thats the nail in the coffin for me. Its puzzling because there's a guy who's been posting contrasting videos where he can get it to work and he cannot reproduce my issue. I might be settings or hardware

Have you had your turntables serviced? The pitch control on both turntables won't be identical, there might be a slight difference in speed, which you won't notice by looking at the dots on the platter. Plus there is a different in 45 & 33rpm...
@stacychandler6511

I didn't know that. They haven't been serviced. But, I can do the same tests using vinyl to vinyl and mixxx DVS to DVS without issues.

@@stacychandler6511 I think you answered your own question at the end tho... It only happens with VDJ. So i believe VDJ is your problem. Could also be an issue with the pressing of the timecode vinyl, which you won't notice with DVS to DVS... I would say by looking at your turntables, they are in dire need of a service. oiling etc on your decks is definitely needed!
@stacychandler6511

Ive had them for about 25 years and they were 2nd hand then and I haven't serviced them. You're probably right though. I just haven't had time recently to take them apart and procure the parts. Both tone arm height adjustments have seized, both cue lights are gone and the pitch range is close to +16 With all that honesty out the way though, I manage to beat match by ear vinyl all day and keep it matched without any adjustments for any length of time. Currently its impossible with VDJ. I and others are convinced it's settings related. There's a few more things I need to try before I abandon this completely. I bought a reloop flux so now I can use Serato. I probably won't use VDJ anymore.

The original Final Scratch? Wasn't that linux only? I remember when it first came out, it was like sorcery to me. Mixxx is a great bit of kit. I found it sometimes unstable in Windows, but I mostly use Linux and it works great in there. I just wish there were more options to customise the interface, especially because I use a touch screen
