03:55 - One problem, in order to have gigantism, you need an even higher percentage of atmospheric oxygen than we have today. Which means you can't have an environment with gigantism & low oxygen, much less "devoid of oxygen."
Very well done. Sarah Doublet gave her land to the Jones in 1735. They were from either Concord or most likely S. Acton before it was Acton. Acton was est in 1735 also. I have a copy of the transfer. It says "of " Concord . Most of us were in Acton ( to become) by abt 1700 a few stayed in Concord. Sarah was said to have stayed at the Jones Tavern in S. Acton in her late years. The kindness shown to her was paid off in abt 500 acres of land. BTW her late husband was known as "Indian Tom". Tom Jones
I appreciate the elucidation as to the characteristics of the mineral specimens, and anecdotal information. Well done, and I learned a lot of new facts!
This was delightful! I was given a slab of labradorite, and did not know what it’s proper name was! Thank you for making this lovely video, made my night. This is the first time I got a helpful explanation of metamorphic rock. I get it now.
What a wonderful video that explains lots of various geology that could be understood by the general public. I even learned a lot from this and I have studied geology my whole life. Well done!!
I am his former student at SJSJ, early 1970s, and he approved my masters project, and later I developed a theory called the philosophers wheel quite similar to his ontograph. Good to see him still sharing his wisdom!
Check out the books of Manuel Robbins for everything you could want to know about fluorescent minerals. I became obsessed with them about 30 years ago. I'd be remiss if I didn't also mention the Fluorescent Mineral Society,an excellent club of fellow enthusiasts and a great information source. I cannot believe how few mineral collectors still don't know about them.
Great video. I fished Long Lake many years ago and shot a few ruffed grouse in the area shown in this video. Good to know that the area has been set aside and not developed.
Just joined the Worcester minerals club. As a Foraging and Mushrooming Instructor, this hobby goes hand in hand with what I do- thanks for this wonderful talk!

Million Dollar Potential in Ruvol I have invented a Board Game [still unpublished] that is guaranteed to be far more challenging and exciting to play than CHESS. I called it “RUVOL.” Over time, Ruvol will surpass chess as the “Number One Board Game in the World.” Why am I so sure about this? Because I am an avid chess player myself. I found chess to be so repetitive that any clever player could easily master the moves to a point they could even play against opponents blindfolded. It is for this reason I invented a game where every game is always a new challenge and exciting to play. Ruvol is played almost somewhat like chess. The kind of people who play chess will be the same kind of people who will play Ruvol. I invented Ruvol primarily to give chess a direct “apple-to-apple” competition. Right now, there is no other board game in the world within the same category of chess “where chess players can switch to.” Chess is entirely a monopoly in its class. And Ruvol will change that! In my Google search, I learned there are around 800 million chess players in the world. These 800 million players comprise the “Total Potential Buyers” of Ruvol across the globe. At an average profit of just US$5 per set, the “Global Income Potential” of Ruvol then is US$4 billion. Assuming only 1% of it will buy each year, the annual global potential sale is US$40M. I AM SELLING MY COPYRIGHT TO RUVOL. For the reason that I don’t have the resources to publish Ruvol on a global scale, I find it “wiser and faster” to simply sell my copyright. If you are interested to buy my copyright, email me your BEST PRICE OFFER-[the copyright goes to the highest bidder]. My email address is: rodolfovitangcol@gmail.com. [Or perhaps you can help me find a buyer, and I’ll reward you with a commission.] Early bird catches the worm! RODOLFO MARTIN VITANGCOL The Ruvol Inventor
A couple of years late to the party, but I just wanted to let you know that I am throughly enjoying your Fossil series. I may be an unlikely viewer here all the way over in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, but being a beginning enthousiast, Google nevertheless pointed me this way. Good stuff!
I too am a former student of Dr. Koestenbaum. I am 61 years old and I can honestly say that my life was influenced in the best way by the courses I took at SJSU with Dr. K. Existentialism and Phenomenology, Clinical Philosophy. Thank you Dr. Koestenbaum.
