Should be in bed, super tired, kid is gonna wake up early, I have people coming over tomorrow night - ah fuck it I'll watch a sport called "Battle Court Jai-Alai" where some 'fellers are throwing a ball with giant pooper scoopers.
@AZGOLF they don't, The ball is served against the front wall and must land in a designated serving zone; the opposing player in the case of singles, or one of the opposing partners in doubles games, must catch and return the ball before it touches the floor more than once. The purpose of hitting the walls a few times is to make the ball more difficult to return to the front wall for the opposing team. In this version of jai alai (Americanized) they use a rubber type ball, in traditional jai alai the ball is made of hardened goat skin so that it's as hard as a baseball. The ball will break within the match and they will replace it with a new one. The density of the ball allows it to travel much faster. It is a pretty fast paced game when two good teams can get it going. You can win alot of money gambling on this sport. A point is awarded whenever a team can't return the volley legally and the service is awarded to the team that got the point. If that team continues to get the point then they will continue to serve. There are usually 7 competitors (7 teams of two or 7 individual players) they will play eachother 1 on 1 or 2 on 2. Example: if team 1 serves team two and team two gets the point, team one will go to the bench and team 2 will remain to face team 3. If team 2 gets another point, they will remain and face team 4 and so on and so on. As long as team 2 keeps scoring the point then they will remain on the floor taking on teams 5,6 and 7. At this point the cycle repeats starting at 1. They do this until one team has scored 15 points. They win. It will keep going this until one team of the seven has achieved 15 points. It works the same way in singles play. When you bet on it, it's like a horse race. You are predicting who will come out at the end. In the basque country ( origin of the game) you can change your bet while the match is going, but naturally the odds change based on who has points and who doesnt.
Jai Alai - You have to serve the ball to a certain area and you can’t let the ball bounce twice. If the player returns it and it bounces in play and then goes out of bounce before the other player catches it it is a point for the player that that returned it. You also can’t juggle it. You can catch it on one bounce or in the air, but you can’t let it bounce twice on the floor. There’s more to it than that, but those are the basic rules.
It’s a basket called a cesta. They are still hand-woven according to tradition. Jai Alai originated hundreds of years ago in the Basque region of Spain under the name Basque pelota and various other names.

@destinypedigo Then don't post a comment. Those of us who do like, and understand the sport appreciate the snap throw by Foronda, and the "hook shot" scoring throw by Douglas.
your allowed to like and appreciate this sport, and the snap throws, and all the saves. just as much as destinypedigo is allowed to not understand it and still leave a comment lol.
How many points until the game ends? Do they also get individual and team scores? What do the lines on the wall mean? I’ve picked up a few things by watching, but not those. Thank you!
