Wonderful job. The concept and consistency in carrying it out, the extra work (ah! To be able to sew!) - make the photos worthy of the golden awards. Thanks for sharing.

Great video and well laid out instructions for the V-flats. Curious if you thought about using a matte or flat pain instead of the paper for the black side?

Did you need to wait till the base layer paint is dry before applying the texture coat?

Your growth is remarkable! It show you(or me) that you don"t have to have a professional sitting next to you to be learning. It is such a shame that covid came along when it did. But,.....you spent the time learning your art. Keep on keeping on!

I don't really comment on youtube but I wanted to say thank you. This is the most useful breakdown of how to do this on your own that I've seen and I don't feel like I have to shell out $500 to buy one of these premade now!

Oliphant insists on using 12 oz canvas. How much difference do you think there is between 10 and 12 oz? What advantages could there be by using 12 oz? Many backdrop painters also prime their canvas first, or purchase primed canvas before painting. You don't do this, yet you seem to have good results. Do you think using a primer/paint product is enough? Is that why you didn't prime first? Excellent video.

Too bad these colors are no longer available, and the color codes shown here don't match existing colors. Also, prices in my area are reaching $65 a gallon for these custom-color brands. Not an inexpensive gamble.

I much appreciate your sensitive review of the image quality differences, especially your point about the R5 containing more color information in the pixels (as well as being smoother and sharper). Great work!

You MUST use a proper respirator and filters when working with spray adhesive...breathing that stuff is very, very bad. If you use it in your living space like you see here, it's going to go everywhere, so put drops over anything you don't want coated in adhesive (like those dining room chairs)

that lens is by far my most used lens. in the film days with my F-1, i never had a zoom lens on it. i just picked up the R6II for the super duper focus but havent shot any portrait/beauty/fashion yet. difficult for me get business in my little market place. ive THOUGHT often of adding the 85 f1.4 (EF) because i can use it on my 5D4 as well but then ive thought about the 24-105 for that little bit more reach for head/shoulder images. any thoughts abou that? im using the canon ef-r adapter too

Hi Nicole! Discovered your channel and your content is fantastic! i’m wondering what size is your shooting area? I have a 12‘ x 16‘ space that I’m considering converting to a small studio but I worry it’s not large enough. However I noticed your shooting space is very similar at least in width.

This is a really well presented video! Future folks watching this, get the 3m stuff instead, or if you have some around wood glue will do the trick too (Longer cure time). Spray it in a well ventilated area, or have a respirator on.

I thought it was interesting that you show your RAW image vs. the edited version. And the beautiful images you create in your home studio. I’m sure this inspires many of what can be done without a commercial studio space. Continued success!!! #❤BTS content

Thank you for putting together such a great demo. I've seen a few using various techniques, but I think yours is the simplest and will likely follow suit. The washed vs unwashed is really interesting (and you've saved me a couple of hours!). I have a couple of questions; - Have you used muslin with this or a similar process? Is canvas the best material for backdrops? - What colour combo's can you recommend? I see myself making maybe 3 of these, with base colours of 1) grey, 2) brown and 3) pink

The thing is, once you factor in the value of your time spent shopping, making them... it often makes more sense just to buy them, considering that they are a business expense / write-off. Though it doesn't make a guide like this any less valuable! But that's why pro photographers often just buy things like v-flats, because if you spent the time making v-flats instead shooting paying clients, on balance you didn't cut your own throat.
