Welcome to Sugarloaf Garden, our backyard, high desert garden. We are gardening in the Southwest region of the United States in an Arid Climate in US Hardiness Zone 8b at about 2,800 feet in elevation. We want to highlight what grows here, peek at the biodiversity in our backyard, and perform general garden tasks. Occasionally, we'll get into how we use our garden harvest. And very occasionally, we'll touch on our other creative endeavors. We hope to invite viewers to observe our gardening practice, while also encouraging you to grow. You are the Best Gardener in your space!
@@kimbrooks5419 Hello. Thank you for your comment. I looked up how to turn on closed captioning. On a mobile phone, you tap on the video, the CC option appears at the top and you tap on that. I wonder how accurate the wording is. Is there some other method you prefer? Essentially, when starting seeds in the house, keep the lid on to keep seeds moist. After sprouting, remove the lid. At that point, seedlings will draw moisture from soil as they are developing roots. Good luck. And welcome to the channel.
@@ajaygreene8186 it can be a bit tricky to know what Fall weather is going to look like, but I think starting seeds indoors between the beginning of August and the beginning of September gives us a good window in our corner of the Southwest desert.
@@SandyC-sg1ye I hope this link works. It’s to another video of mine which shows the plant when mature. Essentially, it’s a Chinese broccoli. Super tasty. Very worth growing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7tgtyJf-4dw.html
@@elizabethmatheson-sugarloaf Yeah, not the most quick-witted insects. The yellow ones are way worse though. Those actually land on your fairly frequently in larger numbers. Very annoying!
@@cindysplace I’d be inclined to call it a creek too. It’s so sweet and calm. Downstream, it is joined by two more forks and continues to flow down Pine Valley Mountain and then through various desert towns. Santa Clara River in Southern Utah.
@@elizabethmatheson-sugarloafThat is great to hear! I love it. It took some time for me to adapt and not be homesick after my move. I am still seeing many blessings. The girls are growing. I have custody of the oldest now. I am still trying to open a bakery, and I have finished my fist decade memoir.
Ooo I have a baby peach tree too. And it had about 12 baby peaches on it at the beginning of spring. A week later they were all gone! 😩 either the birds or the skwirls ate them
I love hummers! My cat was out in his catio earlier and one flew down to check him out, then went to drink from the flowering lemon tree, occasionally coming back to check out my cat. It was so cute! My cat just watched in fascination - no trying to pounce, no chittering like he wished he could eat it.
Everyone is commenting that THIS is just the info they came for......Me too! Sidenote: Your lovely calm voice at 0:44 instantly reminded me of the photography studio scene from the movie Napoleon Dynamite. ❤❤❤ 😂
New to growing lettuce I'm germinating a second batch as the first lot got leggy and fell over as I've not got any light equipment yet only propagater tray
It’s an option to start lettuce seeds direct sown outside, if your weather is cold, but not freezing. That way you have the sunlight and don’t have to worry about indoor lighting.
These put out a lot of peas for us last year. We actually have pea plants sprouting up from where they were planted last year from fallen seed, just from not getting around to eating them all.
