Instead of pulling the tool down the hair to loosen the locs I started wiggling it around and poking at it gently with slight movements down in many directions. Rather than one motion down. It took longer but I ripped out a lot less hair. The ones I combed through with a tac lost around 60% of length. When I wiggled it around to loosen it then gently combed it afterwards it was almost the same length while curled as when it was locked. The hair I did it with has small waves rather than coils though for length reference. I can’t remember which RU-vidr recommended filing down the tip of a thumb tack so you don’t poke yourself while doing it. I used my nail clipper file.
Im hoping to do this after my high school graduation. Im a sophmore in high school and i've had locs for about 12 years. I know, thats a LOOOONG time😅. But i want to do something different, turn over a leaf and start fresh. So hopefully I can have the courage to do this after 12 years of having locs😭. Wish me luck!!😉

So I’m 17 and I’ve had my locs since I was like 8. Yeah, I have almost 9 years of growth on my head😭. I always think about going natural, but I’m scared I will look bad and I don’t have courage to take care of natural hair. I’m so glad that when I’m ready to remove my locs, (probably within the next 2 years) I can comb them out and retain my 9 year hair length!! Thanks for this vid!!
