Goats Don't Shave formed in 1990. in Dungloe, County Donegal, the group is fronted by singer-songwriter Pat Gallagher, In 1992, the Goats released their first album through Cooking Vinyl, The Rusty Razor. This fiery mix of folk, traditional music and rock was hailed by critics as an absolute classic, and the album went gold in Ireland. Following such success they released a second album in 1994, Out in the Open, a rockier, much rounder piece which maintained their well earned reputation as a band capable of great things. Their name comes from a pub incident in which a tipsy local character was told to stop acting the goat and have a shave and clean himself up - his response was to walk away muttering the words Goats Don't Shave!! Since their formation back in the summer of 1990, Goats Don't Shave have risen to become one of the most popular bands Ireland has produced.
the cracked frosty window with a bedsheet to keep out some light the empty glass [island?] that some use to sleep in the night the street's getting angrier with every blast of the horn and the city awakes to the silence and the madness goes on oh what I would give to be back home for christmas day I really should call but I don't feel like lying today my overcoat's thin pockets empty, my feet frozen hard and long gone is the fifty that was inside mother's card and I, I'm so far away on Christmas day I came here with high hopes; a boy with a hatful of dreams but slowly it all started coming apart at the seams when I had the money, I had the good times and friends but I found the road to the bottom at so many bends and I, I'm so far away on Christmas day and so like the snow one more year disappears and I, I'm so far away on Christmas day on Christmas day I'm so far away on Christmas day

Daddy what's that sound across the river And all those flashing lights up in the sky I can see the smoke from my window And I saw all the soldiers marching by. My son that is the sound of revolution In darkness we must try to seek the light A place where every man can live in freedom So I must go across that bridge tonight. Chorus Close your eyes my little darling May the angels keep you safe tonight Close your eyes my little darling For tomorrow in a new land you will rise. Daddy please don't go across the river I won't sleep tonight if your not here Today I heard mom crying in the kitchen Daddy tell me what's a volunteer. My son, my son stay back from the window Close the curtains, into bed you go And come the light of morning I will find you And we'll walk this land free as the river flows [Am]Daddy what's that sound across the [Em]river And [Am]all those flashing lights up in the [Em]sky I [C]can see the smoke from my [G]window And I [Dm]saw all the soldiers marching [G]by.
