Hello. My name is Debra. I initially started this channel to focus on my copywriting & marketing business.
However, when the pandemic hit, I began painting with alcohol inks and started posting videos of some of the techniques I was exploring. So when you're on my channel you'll find several playlists that range from videos that include copywriting and marketing tips to alcohol ink painting tutorials and processes.
Stay and watch for as long as you like!

Hi there! New to your channel and love what you did! I am going to try selling at fairs. How do I price my work! I have very large clear ones I glitter and medium size flat bulbs: I will be doing alcohol ones next. I have read other channels and one person does ocean colors with thick looking acrylic pour and sells for 5.00. She is the only one that actually answered about pricing that I saw. I would really appreciate your input or fellow artists thoughts! i love how you made it so easier with the solo cup and how beautiful they turned out. Thanks so much for sharing😊🥰
Hi @dianakennedy6189 pricing varies. To date, I only paint ornaments with alcohol inks. When I sold them on my website, I sold plastic ones (as I didn't want to ship glass in the mail). More recently I paint glass ornaments that are sold in retail stores. The price is up to the retailer, but they average about $16 - $17/each. I hope this helps.
@halaabbad7366 I use alcohol inks. I haven't used water-based silk paint, so I can't tell you whether or not it will work. If you give it a try, let me know.😀
@amanya_chan I like that guess and can see how it might translate into desert/dunes. I may consider that for the future. If you're interested, watch this video to see how it turns out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z8MsVbJO0Oo.htmlsi=YfcuyjqdAHJbNmyw
Thanks @gabrielamaja9672 you can see the technique I used in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Aa2MOXjqmR4.htmlsi=clMPu8Q6j1JwOLyS
Hi Debra, did you just set the ink with the iron? or did you rinse in water and vinegar like I've seen on some videos? If you do rinse, do you wait till the ink is dry before the rinse?
@eviltabbi when I am done painting, I let the scarf dry. Then, I soak it in cold water with vinegar and salt. After that dries, I iron it with a steam iron and then, I often repeat the vinegar soak process. Watch the video; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8t-32q-ViFI.html
Thank you Gabriela. There's a full process video on my Alcohol Ink Art playlist that demonstrates how I painted a similar flower with blue inks (that one's called "Rhapsody in Blue."😍
@@Volleyball1257 you can watch this full process video to see how I painted a similar flower: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Aa2MOXjqmR4.htmlsi=CFbtPvpSMKBpwj3K
@kathleenChristensen-fp8hk alcohol inks have a mind of their own so I'm never quite sure if the petals will actually look like petals. It's mysterious and magical. Thanks for watching.
Thank you @gabrielamaja9762 I appreciate you watching. 😍 You can watch the full process video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z6vFkoZgFBs.html
Thank you so much for this video. I used to paint die on silk with a mineral spirit that is no longer available because it’s so toxic. The mineral spirit was mixed with the gutta. I also have done alcohol ink and so I could really take advantage of your technique. Thank you so much! I had about given up hope🐉
My pleasure Gail, thanks for watching. Please be aware that alcohol inks and isopropyl alcohol also have fumes so it's best to wear a respirator mask and work in a well-ventilated area when painting silk scarves. Enjoy creating.😀
To the best of my knowledge there aren't any products known as "resin alcohol ink." There are alcohol inks made by a company called "Let's Resin" but they are inks, not resin. Hope that helps.
@@DebraAJason i'm a beginner for paint. Last week i painted a fabric and i washed it after one day.but colour was shed. Can you explain me correct process for that.
@@Pro123-s7h are you referring to silk that you painted with alcohol inks? If so, after you paint it and it dries, it needs to be soaked in cold water, vinegar & salt. See this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8t-32q-ViFI.html After that, if you wear the scarf and later want to wash it, only gentle hand washing in cold water with little (if any) mild soap is recommended.
Vivian, like any garment, colors can fade over time. That said, to date, I have not had any of my clients report any issues with their scarves fading. I do recommend to them that they only hand wash them in cold water with mild (if any) soap. 🥰
Hi Dana, you can get a set of three 11" x 60" scarves on Amazon amzn.to/3SlhyGF (I am an affiliate). OR you can order a variety of sizes directly from Dharma Trading Company.www.dharmatrading.com/ 😀
Thanks for watching Anita. I'm sorry, but having never painted on 100% cotton cloth, I can not tell you whether this process would work or not. The only way to know is to give it a test try and see what happens. 🥰
Hi Again Debra, I have another question for you…I followed your directions in this video and noticed on the second round f soaking I still had the ink bleed into the water, so I am wondering if that is normal on the second round? I know you mentioned it in your video o; the first round, but wasn’t sure if the second round was ok for that as well. If it is, do I need to advise a buyer that the colors will bleed with every wash? If it is not supposed to bleed the second time around, can you perhaps suggest what might have gone wrong and how it might be corrected? Thank you, I have only worked with alcohol inks for 3 days, so not sure about any of the processes, but do know that I’m having fun trying it out!
Hi Judy, it often depends on how much ink you used and the ink color. For instance, I find that sometimes when I use a bright pink or red, it tends to "bleed" both times that I soak it. When customers buy the scarf I tell them to only hand wash in cold water using a little (if any) mild soap. For the 3 years that I've been painting silk scarves w/alcohol inks, I haven't had any customers contact me with issues about the colors bleeding. I hope this helps.🥰
Thank you so much Debra, I really really enjoyed watching you create this beautiful and inspiring piece. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too. Please stay safe and well too
Beautiful work! I don’t know if you know but we can keep inks inside the lines by drawing a line with a Posca pencil. That cow can be inked without any bleed if you draw the outline, eyes, spots with a white Posca pencil👌 I’ve been watching another ink artist do this so I ordered a couple of the pencils from Cheap Joes & it’s a game changer. No need for resists unless it’s a technique that requires it. Zimino Arts here on RU-vid.. she has a lot of great videos. ~~Ohhh I love your scarves too 🌹🌹🌹
Thanks Debra. Yes, I am aware of the Posca pencils that some use instead of masking fluid. This cow can also be done on Nara paper without any masking fluid (paint the background and then wipe the outline back to white). I have been playing with masking fluid lately and decided I wanted to give it a try when painting "Dudley." Thanks, I appreciate your input. 🐄
@@DebraAJason ‘Dudley’ 🥰 that’s a great name for a cow💙. Yah I try to mention things that are useful.. sometimes it’s known & others times not. Love your art/style subbed earlier & I’m gonna have a binge a little later ☺️ Happy Arting 🌹 edit: Nara papers 🤤 so easy but it’s pricey.
June, when I'm done painting them with alcohol inks, I let them dry. Then, I soak them in the cold water/vinegar and salt. After that dries, I iron with a steam iron. 😀
