Awesome mill. Set you up a belt driven blower system that blows the dust out from under the blade when sawing. The thing I don’t like about a pit is they still fill up with sawdust and sometimes water and are a mess.
What was the age of this mill? I worked for Carthage Machine Co. in the 80's. They bought the Frick Forest line of machinery and when they started building these mills they painted them the green color which was their company's color.
Most of my first years in trucking taught me all too soon and too quickly Detroit's run cold unless they are being run hard. I froze in the cab of more than one truck with a Detroit engine. This was true all the way through to the 92 series. Shutters and a smaller fan will help some but don't look for great strides in the heat department. Mike
I don't know if its feesable,6 71 Detroit, maybe some how get another drive off your set up somehow, run a generator, get some lites and run that electric motor for dust removale chain, looks like your a long ways away from nearest place to run power to your sawmill, just an idea
