Daily video up-dates on my English Garden | I grow David Austin Roses, Perennial’s, Annuals, Japanese Maples & more! I also do tutorial videos, tips and plant reviews. Join me and my little pug, Ava, as we share our garden with you all. 💚
Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden, Darren. I also share a passion for roses and Japanese Maples, amongst lots of other plants! How do you keep the black spot at bay? As you do not use chemicals, do you use a natural spray or do you just remove the diseased leaves? I have downy mildew on my Eustacia Vye, which is a shame as it has a beautiful fragrance and colour. Your Emily Brontë looks fantastic, I am tempted to purchase a bare root plant in the Autumn!
I bought a shirasawanum based on your video for that and now you've made me want one of these! Would you say it's worth having both or are they too similar if you're really tight on space? Thanks again :)
Hi Darren loved the video but found myself hyperventilating when i saw that you just ignored all the leaves that had blackspot on them😮 i have many roses planted in containers and go around each evening with pruners in one hand and a pocket full of anti bacterial wipes and inspect each rose for two major things, in my opinion, and that is firstly the start of blackspot which i will remove at first site and secondly the dreaded sawfly larvae 🤬 when i first started to grow roses i didn't know about these vile little things and they were eating leaf after leaf and getting fatter by the day until they were noticeable to the naked eye (i thought they were ordinary caterpillars 😮) but i soon learned otherwise and now i know what to look for and hopefully so do the birds🫣😊
What in your opinion Darren has a stronger fragrance. Blue moon or twice in a blue moon rose? I love strongly scented blue/lavender/silver colored roses. I'm growing a bunch of new variety's this year and can't wait to see what my favorites will be <3
Somehow, my comment went onto someone else's video! Told some guy I loved his garden and I was looking forward to the summer! He must think I'm mad😂😂😂😂
The garden is looking so lush and full and wonderful. Love the combination of all the various trees, roses and perennials. A beautiful English garden you have created there.
Hi Darren, how is your Scent from Heaven doing? Mine is in its first year and I just had the first blooms. Must say is a disappointment. Scent is nice but nothing special, certainly not very strong, and the blooms fall apart super fast, I think they last only one day or so! I'm not very happy about that...suffice to say this is not specified by any vendor. Scent wise I read in a forum that is grows stronger after the first year, is this true in your experience?
Absolutely beautiful. I also love to potter around the garden first thing in the morning after a night shift and smell the roses, secateurs at the ready for any spent flowers.
Here in Ohio, the first fluch of roses is the largest and finest, once summer heat begins, the roses decrease in size because the plant is struggling to remain hydrated. Valerian root, dried and powdered smells like bad socks, but it has a reputation for helping to reduce insomnia, so forgotten, it really does belong in a proper cottage garden. 0:58 Rambling Rector is going to be a veritable "waterfall" of blossoms! 6:00 Hello there Ava sweetie! Happy springtime to you! Less house confinement!🧡🧡 6:30 You have a PROPER English cottage garden populated not merely with wonderful roses, but with gorgeous upreaching perennials and your Japanese maples would meet with Getrude Jekyll and Vita Sackville West's approval, they would both be delighted to have your Japanese maples. 8:38 My Eustacia Vye, in her massive terracotta pot, spent the winter indoors in the 45 degree room, her first flush has passed, now she is loading up again and her fragrance is intoxicating, I can not get near her without stuffing my nose into her petals and inhaling deeply, old rose scent , strong, with menthol under notes, and that illuminated , glow in the center of her blooms is very nice to see. Everyone must have Eustacia Vye. . 8:41 This scene epitomizes the perfect English cottage garden, it looks natural, unplanned, but in fact it IS planned, then , as we know, the best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray, so we as gardeners are sort of driving a vehicle with loose steering that goes APPROXIMATELY where we want it to go 😆😆 These are the good old days, come January, we shall realize that. Thank you for sharing the lovely sight with the world!
Hey Stuart! So lovely to hear from you after all these years. Thank you for your lovely messages just now, much appreciated! I hope you and Lily are doing great? Drop me a message over at darrenharwoodphotography@hotmail.com for a catch-up! Love, D xx
I have Eustasia Vye and Emily Bronte. And neither look anything like yours. I had to train EB like a climbing rose or I got nothing but six foot canes with three flowers on top. I tied it up into a ball and every leaf node turned into three to six flowers with a repeat on about a third. EV is a unique peachy pinky spiny thing. It smells like candy.
How would I propagate the flowers? Mine is flowering and it’s super tall and I wanna propagate it correctly I have the same plant I’d like to propagate it
How wonderful to see your lovely garden again, Darren. I've been a fan for years and have derived so much enjoyment from seeing your many beautiful roses.

Desdemona Rose ist so bezaubernd und schön ! Ich liebe weiße Rosen 🌹 die sind Reinheit das Herzens ❤Alle Ahorn Bäumchen mit ihren Wunderschöne Blätter sind Faszinierend !!! Danke ❤️ sehr das du deine Rosen Leidenschaft uns geteilt hast!!!!
Absolutely beautiful Darren, your garden tours are always a delight. I also get excited over my Rose's. I've almost fallen into the boarders a few times whilst bending to give them a good sniff 😉 Loving my new Desdemona, she's gorgeous. X
Mine is flopping all over and it’s so frustrating. I thought it was just me, but I’m glad to know it’s not. Gorgeous flowers and fragrance, but horrible growth habit.
I have a little rose bush called Precious Amber which is described by sellers as lightly scented. Yesterday was sunny and hot, my roses have just started blooming and I went from rose to rose having a good deep sniff, and Precious Amber had a stronger and better perfume than Gertrude Jekyll, who is covered in big blooms this week. I think Gertrude is consistently gorgeous and other roses sometimes hide their scent and only bring them out on certain days because they are THAT EPIC.
Absolutely stunning. Mine seriously needs a hard prune. It's about 40 feet tall climbing up the pergola and up a pine tree. It's pulled the pergola badly to one side. It's way beyond the secateurs stage. Think it's a job for the silky handsaw.
What a perfect day! The wind blowing, so many blooms in a beautiful, fragrant garden. I bet they love hearing your voice too, Darren. They hear your love and appreciation.❤
