Imagine you write out the years in a flat grid and the year I was born when I think of it I’m looking down at my feet to it, grandmother was born 1899 so I look behind me and for some reason the 1990s I’m standing at 1999 and looking down to the left…inside my head, that is😵‍💫🤓

Beautiful work! So on a massive loom like this, where you're not manually moving the shuttle but pulling a cord and letting the loom do it instead, how do you go about managing your selvedges? I have to guess that's one of the "many settings" you were talking about having to adjust?

Planning? Hah. I just warp, and go. Whatever comes out, is what comes out. Planning leads to stress. Stress leads to errors. Errors lead to an inferior product. Inferior products lead to less sales, and less sales means less weaving.

I genuinely am curious why most fiber arts have such a preponderance of ugly craft works when to try to learn about them. I know this sounds mean, and thats not at all what I am intending. I think there's some kind of Internet effect with fiber arts which is just a bit different somehow. You can look for information about this or that sculpture technique or glasswork and ... Okay ... You're going to see lots of people showing off works which only their grandmother could love. But it won't take long to find a scholar talking about some extraordinarily beautiful or interesting museum piece. This just doesn't happen much with the fiber arts. Some of the best information I have found will have examples by this or that fiber artist and the best you can say about it aesthetically is that it has the quaint charming awkwardness of folk art. I find this very odd.

My weaving journey started by studying the history of tartans, tartan design, and kiltmaking. Though I don't have space to setup a weaving studio, I have ofer $500 worth of weaving related books.

Girl, you REALLY need to make more videos. You are an excellent teacher! I bought a loom, have it threaded, but it has sat there 2 years because I’m afraid. I’m going to give it a go. I’ve watched so many videos on how to read a draft. Yours is by for better than any other video I have seen. Please, please, consider making videos on how to actually weave.

Hi!! Thank you so much for your encouragement. I do really want to get back into making videos, but I feel out of practice and kind of afraid to start again. Isn't that silly? Is there anything specific that's intimidating you about weaving? I feel like winding the warp and threading is the hardest part! I'd love to hear what you need help with so I can be further motivated to make more videos. Wishing you all the best!

Thanks for this video Darcy. You calm easy of explaining is a great review for me. I’ve been weaving 9 years and although I’m good with math I’m terrible at planning out projects. Your organized way of showing all your calculations is very straight forward and something I will aim to follow going forward.

I appreciate that you show difficulties. I don't have the same machine, but my 2 single flatbed knitters are a constant challenge, and many youtubers make it look easy. However, part of the pleasure is found in mastering the beasts! Thank you! BTW Your Duo does rib automatically but is there anything else beneficial about a dual bed machine?

Darcy. Thank you so much for this video I too am doing the initial buy and deep clean. The part where I am stuck is that long spring that goes the length of the rail I got it out but I don’t know exactly where it goes back. Do you remember?
