I love exploring unusual, interesting and forgotten places in United States, Mexico and around the world. I love stories and exploring abandoned places since I was a child. Now I'm sharing my experience with you. Leave a comment with any questions, ideas or suggestions! Enjoy my videos!
It's so sad to see it in its current state, dead and lifeless. I would love to see home videos of this place when it was a thriving community full of life and in its glory. I hate when big corporations build and control a community only to abandon it when it no longer serves its purpose, especially when the worker/residents invest their life and money into it. When the company decided to close down, they should have gotten rid of the machinery that wasn't going to be used and filled in the areas that were dug up. The businesses, schools, etc. should have been turned over to the community so that they could expand and be self-sufficient. I hope that they will revive this town in the near future and restore it to its beauty and not let it rot away.
This is the perfect solution to Californias homeless problem. How many millions if not billions have already been spent on this problem with absolutely no resolution. We could spend that kind of money to provide homeless shelters in a place like this. The homeless need somewhere to live but not in established communities and neighborhoods. This would not be voluntary. If you are living on the streets you would be taken here with opportunity’s to get their lives together. The homeless would have a rood over their heads, toilets and showers, food and medical S is the obvious solution. A humane solution that will keep them out of or our neighborhoods.
You hace suggested a great idea, however the problem is that many homeless people prefer to live on the streets and do nothing instead of trying to get their life together and be productive.
I loved that place as a child. I grew up in Lakeside and when family or friends came over from out of town this was our go to destination be sided the beach and Zoo. Sad that it was no more!
From what I understand the reason this has not become another 'slab city' is 1) It was never actually 'abandoned' the way slab city was, it has always been owned and patrolled by security. Like the type of overzealous (and extremely bored) security that wish they were cops. 2) Slab city looks like its out in the middle of nowhere but it really isn't too far for the people there to go get supplies or have stuff brought to them. From what I understand this place is WAY out in BMF and the people would be pretty SOL. UPS and Fedex definitely would not go deliver out there like they do at slab city and they also wouldn't get all the benefits that come with being a funky tourist trap/ RU-vid freak show that they have at slab city. 3) It's even hotter there than at slab city, and slab city gets so hot in the summer that 99% of the people who stay there leave for the summer.
I think you are absolutely right about it. It was a remote mining town in the middle of NOWHERE, with extremely hot temperatures and 50 miles each way to any civilization point with food, gas, etc. And it’s a commercial property with private security.
I've been to Desert Center many times when it a flourishing and functional town.I remember the 1916 Dodge Touring car that sat next to the Diner and Where house and ate in the Diner many many times. They even shot an episode of the T.V. show Air Wolf ,I remember the scene where the chopper was hovering 6 feet off the ground in front of the diner. In that scene, the Diner was the Sheriff's office of a corrupt Sheriff, and the ammo did fly!! Also, in the where house I was shown a 1940 Indian Chief on a pallet in pieces but complete.A 1941 Harley Davidson military bike-ready to ride in full military dress that had 15 miles on the odometer. this was in 1990 - 1993. My ex brother in law used to prospect gold in the surrounding hills.
Those were the golden times for Desert Center. But everything changes with time, and keeping this place in business was getting harder and harder every year.
in the '60's working in trucking we had a co-worker whose husband was a line driver for Transcon....he drove from LA to Desert Center where he exchanged his trailer for one going to LA and his went east from DC......is this the same town
😂He's not a satanist⁉️ Could've fooled me..... maybe a demon possessed him to built this demonic horrible castle...... It is what it is "Devil's Castle" Gothic = satan .
Decades ago some of those "company homes" were dismantled and brought to my town and placed on individual lots to be sold as private residences... Cheap crappy homes sold dirt cheap....🤣
My parents actually have history with desert center, their was an abandoned cafe i got to see once, my grandma used to work their, its so surreal to see desert center from another pov
I've been to Desert Center several times and photographed it. Stanley was a character and once took us inside his "treasure" room and there was an old Indian "Four" motorcycle in there. My friend asked him how much would he take for it. He said one million dollars.
I'm a wanna be desert rat. I'm a Brit who became American 3 years ago, lived here almost 40 years. I love the desert oddities, the mines, the hot springs, and the desert people. I'm fascinated by the project that Brent Underwood is taking on in rebuilding Cerro Gordo. I had never heard of Desert Centre until today. I looked it up on the map and boy oh boy is it remote! Thanks for the great video and history lesson. I look forward to your next post. 😊
First--thanks very much for making this video, and for documenting this site. Your drone video is excellent. Also, I absolutely love reading the comments by folks who had a personal connection to Eagle Mountain. That said, PLEASE stop using that goofy computer generated voice to read out the text of your narration. Computer generated speech is definitely easier when you produce content, but let's face it--it sucks.
