You're an engineer? Then fix your short! As much as i see trailers with no working lights this is a blessing. You should be constantly annoyed. its a minor disturbance considering what you are causing to the drivers behind you who have no idea when you apply your brake or turn signal. There are literal laws against malfunctioning/inoperable lights like this. The sooner you fix it, the sooner you will stop being annoyed. Thank you GM!
Oh I will fix it first opportunity. This happened in the middle of a 3 hr trip. All lights work, this is specifically for the electric trailer brakes which are notorious for breaking wires and are built cheaply. The problem is that the alert takes over and it becomes impossible to use things like GPS, etc. This causes some people to do unsafe things like keep being distracted by having to constantly dismiss the prompt, or even worse, disconnecting the trailer electrical and then have no lights!
It will be! The problem is that the alert takes over and it becomes impossible to use things like GPS, etc. This causes some people to do unsafe things like keep being distracted by having to constantly dismiss the prompt, or even worse, disconnecting the trailer electrical and then have no lights!
with a frayed short it keeps constantly cycling through. I could live with the warning message on the DIC, but the binging will drive a person insane! The problem is that the alert takes over and it becomes impossible to use things like GPS, etc. This causes some people to do unsafe things like keep being distracted by having to constantly dismiss the prompt, or even worse, disconnecting the trailer electrical and then have no lights!
Yes, it will be fixed, but not on the side of the road. The problem is that the alert takes over and it becomes impossible to use things like GPS, etc. This causes some people to do unsafe things like keep being distracted by having to constantly dismiss the prompt, or even worse, disconnecting the trailer electrical and then have no lights!
Luckily I had a load that didn't require brakes. The problem is that the alert takes over and it becomes impossible to use things like GPS, etc. This causes some people to do unsafe things like keep being distracted by having to constantly dismiss the prompt, or even worse, disconnecting the trailer electrical and then have no lights!
I feel like you are seeing this in failure mode, but one involving an intermittent connection making this so much worse. I agree, it would be nice for the system to involve some basic logic, and check the stored code and see if the time/date value of the last warning is less than 1 hour (for instance) and just put a pin in the error. I think it kind of shows their innovation goes only one way towards a result and failure isn’t considered…because “warranty” becomes the almighty fix. Or at least it seems like that.
I agree completely and that is the point I was trying to get across. At least have some kind of setting to suppress the audio alerts that will drive you insane. The problem is that the alert takes over and it becomes impossible to use things like GPS, etc. This causes some people to do unsafe things like keep being distracted by having to constantly dismiss the prompt, or even worse, disconnecting the trailer electrical and then have no lights!
I did and there was nothing external that was causing it. Most likely one of the magnet wires within one of the 4 wheel hubs has partially broken. This has happened many times before as I do a lot of trailering and have performed many repairs over the years.
After 45 minutes of that beeping constantly with no way to suppress it, rage was taking over. The problem is that the alert takes over and it becomes impossible to use things like GPS, etc. This causes some people to do unsafe things like keep being distracted by having to constantly dismiss the prompt, or even worse, disconnecting the trailer electrical and then have no lights!
@@RandomThingsKeithDoes The reason I asked, is because it's usually caused by a bad ground. Usually on the trailer side. Especially with older trailers that only ground through the coupler. That will give you an intermittent connection, which causes an intermittent warning on your dash.
there is nothing wrong with the car its the trailer and they get wiring issues all the time especially offroad camping trailers or work trailers or it could just have a been through water and now is having a hissy fit features like this should mute and stop once you acknowledge them with the ok button and not come back up again until the car is restarted
@andreweastaughffe1070 Exactly! I wish they made trailer wiring better. Manufacturers using scotch locks on brake wiring is my biggest pet peave. I replace them on all my trailers with proper soldered connections, but this is most likely a magnet inside one of the hubs.
its for you to go into the hills way out in Canada hit a bump loose your trailer wire then not be able to use the GPS and be lost then die in the wilderness. Its a conspiracy for murder as they are trying to kill you
no actually gm can't do better.. this is a problem they have had ever since they installed a digital anything.. the electronics in gm is worse then any chinese garbage
fix the wires, then it will stop. You are not supposed to be driving it. 5000 times, you are being negligent. I'm an ee AND software engineer, you are embarrassing yourself.
could it not have a fault in the plug on the car? i got 3 trailers all have different plugs and need different adapters to make them work right? why not make it turn off once you hit ok until you start the car next or maybe he is on his way to get it fixed but its 100 miles to the nearest place to get it fixed or maybe it just doesn't like getting wet when you go through a water crossing? why put useless shit like this in a car that is meant to do work? because the people that need this don't do the work its meant to do but looks good on paper and adds another system to fuck up and require repairs to not drive you insane when your out in a field all day listen to it beep and turn off your music
@bigtexuntex7825 I actually was fuelling up beside an RCMP and we were talking about it as I was checking my wiring. I did not have a load that required brakes, so I was not being negligent, or driving illegally. Even an empty trailer will act this way on GM trucks. The problem is that the alert takes over and it becomes impossible to use things like GPS, etc. This causes some people to do unsafe things like keep being distracted by having to constantly dismiss the prompt, or even worse, disconnecting the trailer electrical and then have no lights! Under these types of circumstances, people will do the most unsafe things. This is software creating a possibly unsafe behaviour by the user. plain and simple.
they are just adding more bloat crap in to make you go to the dealership for servicing. cars peaked around 2010 just the right balance of safety and comfort without the annoying side of it all and limiting things if one sensor on the tire is 2 psi lower then another
Way too many electronics...Vehicles are way over priced....Go back to 1985's to 2005's and forget about these friggin EV's ...wasted money on a pipe dream.
i say up till 2010 thats where they hit the right amount of comforts and safety without the annoying crap i like cruise control and sudden brake warning even reverse camera's but my seatbelt alarm only beeps for a minute if you dont wear it then it mutes itself because if i drove for more then a minute without it, its for a reason or its a broken sensor and the seatbelt is fine. cars now are just made to keep you in the service center waiting on parts
Why? As far as I can remember every vehicle I've ever driven has rpms on left and speedo on right What really pissed me off the other day was when I was working on an old 02 Buick century. That thing ONLY has a speedo and no rpm gauge lol
@@NotMe-ej9yz Ah I can see that being annoying. Love seeing the RPM. I was thinking it's _too_ far to the right, like I'd have move my hand to see what I was at.. but I don't know. I'd have to sit behind the wheel.
sounds like you haven't had a work trailer before or gone off road things brake not all trailers require their own brakes and sometimes you just have to carefully drive it back into a repair shop or to a place where you can fix the problem. The alert at first is handy and a nice feature but every 30 seconds it can fuck right off. same with tire pressure sensors or any other sensor if i acknowledge it then that should be the end of it until the car is turned off and started again. things break on vehicles, sensors become faulty over time and you might have you seat-belt on and clipped in correctly but the $1.25 contact sensor they put in there or the 4m of wiring for it has gone and now your car wont go over 20km per hour because of it and don't worry the replacement is only 9 months away on a boat in china. they are good features until you cant turn them off then they are just problems waiting to happen!
You can’t render other systems necessary for the safe functioning and navigation of your vehicle useless because you couldn’t design a bit of code to lookup if/when this was reported. Distracting and frustrating the driver when they may be unable to pull over to solve it, is not the way forward.
@@andreweastaughffe1070 99% sure the wiring is broken and sparking due to vibrations, so it's not a single alert but a steady stream of connect/disconnect events happening due to every little bump from the road
Reporting the problem is good. Not tracking state and "binging" thousands of times at the user with no way to suppress the warning is bad software design. The problem is that the alert takes over and it becomes impossible to use things like GPS, etc. This causes some people to do unsafe things like keep being distracted by having to constantly dismiss the prompt, or even worse, disconnecting the trailer electrical and then have no lights!
All this technology they’re putting a mechanical machines is just absolutely amazing isn’t it? I mean this mechanical machines have never worked without the technology before in the past right and they’re just working sooooo much better now.
That's really annoying. I'm from the software world, seems like it's just lazy engineering. It should give you the option of dismissing the alert without clearing the fault so the alert doesn't come back.
The strange part is it’s inside and outside! I’m thinking an antler broke the outside window and it fell outside, then another hit broke the inner pane of glass inward.
@@RandomThingsKeithDoes Interesting but seems a bit odd for a deer or a moose to do this. Are they in rut season where you are? I would have to agree with your suspicion I'm just a curious guy ya know.
@@KillerBreeze420 our wildlife zone has Elk open season, and based on the amount of scat, there are a serious amount of Elk frequenting the property. The property is also a choke zone for wildlife to get to the lake. I have spotted a brown bear as well, but I don’t think it was the cause. I find it funny that this window has survived at least 35 years or more and now the window gets broken. LOL
I saw your comment on Curtis Stone’s Saskatchewan’s video. Welcome to Sask! Please believe me when I tell you this is the coldest rainiest mid-northern Sask summer most of us have ever seen. My Grandpa, 97, said a couple weeks ago, “It’s so cold even the weeds aren’t growing!” Hopefully you like it here anyways. Lol! I love these cabins dotted around northern Saskatchewan. Hunters, hikers, trappers, and random visitors used to frequent them, but it looks like most have fallen into total disrepair. They were old and decrepit when I was young, and I’m around 50. We went for a long canoe trip when I was around junior high age, and it looked a lot like this area (there is a lot of Sask that looks like this!). We ended up in a big storm and found “shelter” in one of these cabins - but the roof was so leaky it didn’t do much! We did what we could to fix it up, just like it is expected. Clearly that tradition died out, or the cabins just got too old to be helped. Have fun in your new playground!
Thanks! I’ve been in Sask most of my adult life and find this year has been very cold and wet too. I plan on keeping it unlocked in case someone needs emergency shelter and try to keep paying it forward. Unless of course one of my daughters moves in. LOL
@@RandomThingsKeithDoes Cool! Yeah, for sure of course once you own the land and it’s not Crown Land, it would be expected that you would keep it private. It would be quite startling to have people just walk in when you live there. If no one has occupied that land for a while, that’s quite plausible!
@@mariekamerdula7641 yes there are lots of signs. Also the laws were changed here some time ago that you do not have to post your land, it’s the default. Always good to remind folks though.
We are close to a lake resort community, so I figure it came from there. We fell in love with the property and every day we spend out there we discover new things that make us happy with the decision to buy it.
I have this same machine and could not be more pleased. Have not bought ice in over two weeks. This upcoming weekend will be my third weekend of use, and I will be trying to get a good clean performed. Hope all goes well. My unit sits outside under my shed so I will have to turn off for the freezing weather, or move indoors.
I know it is tempting to fix everything one by one, but i think it will be much longer process than patch everything up (for the moment) and build second next to it (with better protection against nature). Roof need to be redone, same as fireplace and walls, if you have also soft floor it can be pricey.
Around here, it’s more expensive to build new as they nail you on property taxes. Repairing existing wont be too bad as long as we don’t go overboard. Video upcoming repairing roof. We got some used metal roofing donated from a friend. The price was right!
