I think it was a e28 528i m30 gearbox in 2014. Later I have fitted a 6 speed e39 m5 gearbox(welded with m30 housing) and powersteering pump from e28 518i and e36/e46 hydraulic power steering rack.
Yes, it has powersteering. Pictures and more here(in norwegian): bimmers.no/forums/topic/766095-ole-martins-e30-m10-turbo/?do=findComment&comment=2744093
@@DiegoHernandez-po2it you will have to make a harness. Buy a aftermarket ecu with flying lead and have someone help you with the install if you need to.
@@DiegoHernandez-po2it My ecu is a 20 year old autronic sm4, so I would not buy that today. I would recomend a maxxecu street premium, it comes with ecu, harness, accessories and wideband lambda.
Hey 02LE. Have another one for you. I know you aren't running the stock trans but what clutch and flywheel are you running? I was thinking about running a lightened stock flywheel with a Cluitchmasters clutch but Im afraid it might affect it on the street. Thoughts?
I'm using a m30 flywheel, from a e28 528i. It only weighs 5,8kg and is 240mm. The getrag 240 (318i) gearbox will not fit anymore, because of too small clutch housing. I had a 4 puck sinter earlier, but changed it for a 6 puck. 6 puck is much easier to drive with. The pressure plate is a stronger one made by sachs.
@@02ole yeah I am going with Clutchmasters FX-350 per their recommendation. I had a 6 puck in a car in the past and didn't like the "lightswitch" on'off clutch pedal on the street. The FX350 is similar but still full-face and shouldn't chatter. I'm still debating doing the lightened flywheel though.
@@02ole Tell me more about this transmission swap you did. You did a 6 speed ZF? What is it out of? How did you adapt it to the small M10 bellhousing bolt pattern?
Hey bro! Did you use your E30 M10 block for your build? Some guy is telling me the head studs are gonna crack out of the block because the E30 block is weaker?
I thought the difference in the blocks was reinforcements on the inside in the lower part of the block. I have used both e30 block from 1986 and 2002 block from 1974 with no issues.
@@02ole I DO like the block location since it drains SO perfectly straight down but Im going to try timing cover first to play it safe. Worst case I can always get a new timing cover. The block is a major deal lol. I would rather try that with the engine out anyway.
Both are Tial. Had both from turbonetics first. But the BOV didnt keep closed under pressure, and the WG broke. Tial q 50mm BOV and Tial MVR 44mm wastegate.
So great to see an E30 M10 getting some love! I'm building one myself. Everyone says "that's stupid, just swap in an M20 and be done with it" which is exactly the motivation I need to keep and build up the M10. It looks like you were dealing with some oversteer there. Do you think that was just from the power, or was it from rear suspension setup? I'm not an expert, just curious as I continue getting my car ready and was pondering whether a rear sway addition (which the 318i did not come with from the factory) would help. Or if that would push the car toward an oversteer condition.
The m10 engine can do realy good. I've had a lot of long faces when people that I have passed comes to see what I've got under the hood! I did not have the best tires, and it had 15 years old bilstein springs and dampers. Extra camber in front and a sway bar kit. It felt like it was extra slippery that day, maybe tire pressure/temperatures or something was off.
@@02ole Gotcha - looks like you were still having a great day out there regardless! Yeah, I know the M10 isn't the cheapest engine to build up, but it's more unexpected and I like that. I did the same with my recent Ford build - I built up an FE big block which, if I had put the same money into a Chevy LS I could have had 2x the power, but then I'd just have another LS-swapped Ford.
3 inch stainless all the way, and a "apple mufflers" multi frequency 3 inch muffler in the rear. www.minges.no/products/multi-frequency-3- That muffler is known for wery good sound dampening. And ist still good after many years with lots of air and heat going through it.
Impressed with the build, your driving/controlling it (BTCC Sierra Cosworth levels of power), and the fact you filmed it well (good audio, no shaky video). But, did I really see a Bentley Turbo R getting on track (@ 07:32) ? Please tell me they were driving it similar to you in your E30!
If you have correct ignition and fuel, 1.2 is ok. But you should have a better head gasket and ARP bolts. I ran a standard non opened m10b18 with 1.2 bar for a couple years. Then the head gasket blew and a rod got bent.
I had a bmw 2002 touring with turbo, as you can see some vidoes of in my channel. It had a m10b18 from e30 318i, and I drove several years with 1,3 bar/18 psi boost with stock internals. So it may, or may not handle it. It depends on a lot of things. Especialy ignition/knocking
Nice car man, ive got e30 too, tho slightly weaker :D, ive got m52tub28 in it, and i am beginner at track days... I went only twice so far, and had shitty tires... could you tell me what tires did you track on? i thought of giving federal rsr a go, but after ive read your comment, i have second thoughts... i never drove on any semislick tires so far, so if you could share your experience, it would be pure gold for me :) I thought of 595 rs-r and pro, toyo r888r, nankang ns2r, now im thinking avon zzr... any thoughts?
You know your build has inspired me to do one pretty much the same as yours. I've read your build thread, matter of fact I saved the whole thing in case it goes down for any reason. Would you be kind enough to answer a few questions I have encountered maybe?
@@02ole yea I figured, in other videos I think you have like, 22 psi boost if I'm correct? Would you be ok if we spoke via email? Or if you would rather keep your privacy, I understand, I can sign up for bimmers.no and pm you there if that works for you.
Could be stock. Look at my bmw 2002 touring videos, it had a stock 318i engine and the same boost. But my e30 has H-rods and CP pistons, and are running more boost. This video is from before it was mapped.
I uploaded a old speedometer video from the e30 too. I'm doing some upgrades on the e30, so it's been of the road for 2 years now. I think it will be finished this winter.
