Heck yeah, get after em. I've fished all over far northern MN and Ontario. All season long, just using minnows. Caught plenty of walleyes. Personally I won't ever bother with leeches or crawlers up there. Remember, big fish eat little fish.
Right on man, great vid. Back trolling for walleyes in the wilderness with a 16ft tiller. I run a very similar boat. And I've never seen a sasquatch cannonball until now, lol
Not knocking it but why was there no grunting or rattling to try to bring the deer in, maybe even try a few deer drive to get the deer to move around also maybe placing deer salt to help out , not sure want the hunting laws are there but in certain parts of Ontario we can used hounds to move deer around but they must be license... just saying... but great hunt well appreciated.
Yeah, we’ve done all of the above. With the extremely low deer numbers it is really difficult. That said, this season I’ll give some rattling and grunting a try. I’ve utilized them a lot in the past with little to no success. We cannot use dogs. Currently the deer numbers in the area are 4-6 deer per square mile. Not very good odds. It’s tough country for them.
Good video. With your deer numbers down so bad it looks like Minnesota needs to open up a wolf hunting and trapping season. The wolves are eating all your deer. No deer equals fewer tags sold which will cost the state a bunch of money in tag sales and taxes from hunting equipment and supplies.
Yes, I think the management of wolves should be taken into consideration. We also benefit from mild winters. Where we hunt we have always had wolves and good numbers of them. They ebb and flow with the deer population. That said, lots of other areas of the state are just recently seeing impacts from wolves. They can be managed safely and effectively with hunting and trapping that would at the very least relax the minds of those that absolutely hate wolves. I enjoy seeing wolves as where I hunt they are completely in their natural habitat with little to no human impacts on the ecosystem aside from logging.
It’s coming so fast! Bow and small game season open in a couple weeks. Bear season is a week away. The smell of fall is in the air. If only it could last 4 months longer
They were ok, mornings were cool so they weren’t too bad early. Evenings when it was a bit warmer they would come out but not nearly as bad as late July early August.
I’ll start by saying I love your videos and the channel, I’m from northern Minnesota as well. With grouse hunting just around the corner, do you do any grouse hunting videos? I’ve looked but didn’t see any. Would love to see some!!
Michael, thanks for tuning in. I love grouse hunting and cut my teeth hunting them at the cabin. I have a few clips of some grouse hunting but not a dedicated video. With that in mind, I’ll put one together this fall. I miss not having a hunting dog. My lab is gun shy and though I’ve tried to take him hunting he’s pretty timid about the shots. Look for a grouse video this fall. Birds were plentiful but I didn’t see any broods this summer. Thinking the rain might have taken a lot. Here’s to hoping it’s another great year for the kings of the Northwoods. They are my favorite bird and are excellent table fare!
Was a good time for sure. Spoiler alert we eventually find the walleyes but it took a few days. Was pretty rainy for the first couple days of the trip.
My dad was always a sit outside in the cold and freeze. Me and my brothers grew up hunting in ladder stands open with no heater and 10 hour sits. Now my dad uses a heater and my brothers and I will utilize them once in a while. Times have changed. Good luck this season!
With a few mild winters it should come back. Should see a lot more does and fawns this season. Just hoping we can have one more mild one in a row and they seem to bounce right back.
thanks again,i like watching it the 2nd as much as the 1st. how far is it, from where you break ice to get to the shore in the morning to walk to the 1st stand?
Ice was out about 100 yards last year. We’ve busted the whole path about 1/4 mile from the cabin before. Some years we cannot hunt across the lake due to ice so it’s really hit or miss. This might be one of those seasons.
Thanks man. It is a bummer but I am learning what can and cannot be posted. Your channel is just taking off! Good work! Your content is awesome and your family is hilarious. Hope all is well with you buddy.
Yeah, my video was flagged for removal because of the dead deer? So I edited it out. It’s ok to show them as long as the cavity is closed? I’m learning as I go.
Agreed. If we can pair another mild winter the herd might have a chance. Lots of fawns out there. Love northern Minnesota Whitetails. Elusive, majestic, and the places you go to to find them are breathtaking.
@@arrowheadangler Yeah, my family cabin is in the Park Rapids area and I’ve never seen fawns on camera as early as this year. Kind of crazy! But, after seemingly a decade long of bad winter up north it’s not bad to see it favor the deer over the wolves once in a while.
Nice review. That’s a different one from the one they sent me to review. The one I got didn’t have the three different windows to open like yours mine was all one. I used mine turkey hunting and the roof leaked bad. But overall I think it’s a nice blind. I do know it takes a few sits to get used to looking through the screens
@@arrowheadangler the wind does come inn not bad but it comes inn. I’m going to give it good test this deer season up at camp to se how it handles snow as well
I’d find any mid lake structure in 15-30’ of water and try slip bobbers or jigs. Leeches are pretty good this time of year. Otherwise you might have luck if you find shoreline cabbage in 8-10 feet of water and pull spinners with crawlers. Very effective this time of year for multiple species but walleyes can’t resist the crawlers in late July.
Appreciate it. It’s a unique remote deer camp with few deer but typically see some nice ones every season! Thanks for checking it out! Deer season will be here soon enough!
