3. Why don’t you always play the original bass line? When I am in a flow I improvise. Sometimes a bass line is very simple. Then add some of my own.
4. Are you a professional musician? No. I am self-taught. For almost 30 years I played in a Dutch cover band. I produced 2 CD’s of my own music (instrumental). Search for Infusion26 Self Made to find four of my songs.

Just follow the chord changes- Verse D C C# A G F E E Chorus Bb F C C Interludes D (A F) G. A&F are just passing tones so 3 beats on D, 1 beat on A one beat on F 3 beats on G. Add a few grace notes and little runs to suit but dont get busy on bass, doesnt suit the song.
I believe you are playing the intro wrong. I think it is more a three-fingered, banjo claw-style (thumb and first two fingers) picking and not a strumming.
