Great tips, thank you! I have a tip to share about blending :) I wear Atlas Tough Nitrile gloves when I do art, and the fingertips on them are perfect for blending! Also easier to clean than fingers, I just wipe with alcohol. Alcohol is also a pretty good solvent for blending.
I realize this video was made 6 years ago but you used a sentence that I would absolutely love more insight into! "Fighting against the white." So starting with a midtone allows you more freedom of expression with values? I'm guessing that's it? Thanks for this video, was very informative!
yes, that and also you have a base color set..... so you are just layering on top of it and layering and finishing is what you toil over.... rather than covering all the white with some color
sure you can. and you can use a combination of opaque and translucent paint/ colors in order to cover or show as much as you want of the current painting/ background.
I have watched other artists use oil pastel and was very frustrated when I tried to follow their advice. Your approach seems much easier and you give many practical techniques. Thank you for sharing your process. I am going to get my oil pastels out of the closet and give them another shot.
Watching this 3yrs after its release but must say nothing has changed as i went with my wife to the market today to buy Oil Pastels and Paper and saw the very same brands and products in the shop today... Though we could not buy the paper as we were confused with so much variety and options, should have seen your video before going... anyway now can buy confidently..
Amazing painting, where can I buy it? I would like to use it as a cover for one of my family projects, I want to take my dad to the beach and fly a kite likes this! that's why!
I use a lot of colors, very hard for me to keep track of exactly which ones I used. the best help I can provide is that all colors are available in the holbein's 48 pcs set
I have hardly used any color pencils other than the ones I mentioned in this video just for the purpose of fine details in oil pastel works.... thus I cannot tell you much about color pencils
