they occasionally divert via cross city line instead of Tamworth way. I think they do this on days where there are more freight services, or if there are railway repairs happening around the water orton or tamworth area etc it’s more effective to go through Lichfield and avoid delays etc..

only just clicked in my head but I believe so! I think because cross country use this route and they only have diesel trains, there’s no point in electrifying it until they move onto the azuma’s etc..
