I feel like you have to undeniably clear out the top 5 first. No close calls / questionable wins. Then you should be allowed to go up a weight class and fight the number 1 contender to see if you’re even eligible to fight the champ at that weight class.

To be fair, being two division simultaneous champion looks good for a fighter’s resume. Prime example, Amanda Nunes. She was defending both 135 and 145 as a double champ. That only works with a 10 lbs difference from each weight class. Anything over that like 15 or 20 lbs difference is just not practical.

That's true, but in her case the women's featherweight division never actually existed in the UFC, they never even had rankings. The only reason it was put in place was for Cyborg and after she left the UFC it was pointless. Also in her case and many other fighters cases they cleared out the competition in the division or stepped up on short notice to fill in for a title fight. The McGregor and Cejudo examples, look what happened to those divisions for years. It eventually rights itself but in the mean time you lose out on many fun fights and some fighters are essentially screwed out of there chance to fight for the belt. The long term health of a division is based on stars, but also a stable of interesting challengers with good stories to fight for the title. If fighters are constantly leaving the division without losing the belt in the cage we end up with more questions for yeas.

Its like a drug on a winning streak, then some try to engineer the environment to tip the favour to them destroying the quality of competition. Its a point of diminishing returns and the industry changes and diversivies to adapt and "win", the fighters stay the same. Both need to be there to make money and create good platforms for it, but the spirit and soul of competition is stagnant if its "all take" from administration. Alot of sport gets ruined like that

No I get and appreciate that from your channel title. I would be the same if I was talking about mma. Ive been a boxing fan for over 20yrs and one thing I’ve learned is not to listen to the propaganda from promoters/networks. I just deal in facts and stats. Fury’s far from the best boxer out there in the HW division. He is the best at gaslighting the public tho. Wilder is just a joke with a strong right hand. He picked Fury coming back from a 4yr lay off consuming copious amounts of alcohol and drugs. He thought it would be an easy touch but it backfired on him,dragging him into a trilogy with the first decent boxer he faced in like 35 fights. Trust me bro, when the dust settles, AJ and Usyk will be top of the pile. Good luck with your channel 👍
@upkickmma
@upkickmma Месяц назад
Yeah I figured Wilder picked Fury for the fight because he saw how fat and out of shape he got, figured it would be an easy name on his resume. Usyk is unreal for the heavyweight division. He's so dam fast and technical, I love watching his box. I just wish AJ would have fought Wilder 5 years ago to shut down the thought that Wilder could win. But AJ cant pick his own fights and that's a tale as old as boxing.

So, in YOUR view it's Burns, Belal, and new comer Shavkat who are the real deals at 170, not Usman and Colby? Wow... we do really come from different imaginary realities! Granted Colby hasn't beaten any top prime guy at 170, or guys his own age at the elite level (with his two consecutive losses to Usman being what made him famous)... but Usman ABSOLUTELY dominated 170 for the last 5 to 7 years (since he beat lanky 24 year-old Leon back in 2015).... and Leon took him out TWICE in a row and you gonna sit there and pretend, calmly, to know more about elite MMA, or to be better at MMA, than Leon? FYI, Leon has already outclassed Luque and Belal, both very skilled, very tough fighters at the Welterweight. Nothing against Belal or Burns... but they are a bit too small, a bit too short, a bit too slow, and a bit too old for the prime 6'2" 190lb Leon. If you haven't already gotten that memo by now, dude, you should'nt waste time trying to sound reasonable about MMA.... because you clearly don't understand it... I do concur with you, however, that Shavkat would be a stiff challenge. NOT because he's superior to Leon but because Shavkat is 2 years younger, as big and tall and strong; and while his stand-up is less polished than Leon's... his wrestling and BJJ are superior to Leon's. But more than that, he has this do-or-die approach to MMA, so he WILL put Leon in very dangerous positions, for real, if/when they fight. NONE of the others is like Shavkat, for the next 2 years. Khamzat is never returning to 170; he's too big for it, to make safe weight cuts. That is why 6'1" Bo Nickal also is NEVER thinking about 170; as elite wrestlers, you need those extra pounds of muscles to safeguard your JOINTS. Leon, just as tall, is an elite striker; he could be much leaner than both Khamzat and Bo and still be extremely quick and agile.
@upkickmma
@upkickmma 4 месяца назад
I wasn't discounting those guys that you mention, (usman, colby, luque). But like you said Leon already beat them, so when talking about future matchups and his career as a whole, it will be determined by his title defenses and it is unlikely that those will be the guys he will be defending it against. You are also right that Leon is big for the division and will present problems for certain guys, but until we see it we can only speculate.

Shamil gaziev vs martin buday how do you see that fight playing out?
@upkickmma
@upkickmma 6 месяцев назад
From the contender series Gaziev does has weaknesses, Buday can swing just like any other heavyweight and he can grapple. I don't have a strong take on it, but if it goes like most heavyweight fights the first person to get on top or land a big punch will come out the winner. I lean towards Buday if nothing else the octagon experience. It is heavyweight so anything can happen.

@MS-wz9jm
@MS-wz9jm 6 месяцев назад
I do always laugh when people celebrate stopping a takedown from across the cage. It was pretty clear Islam just wanted to plant the seed and get a hold of him. He doesnt mind being on the cage as its where he can work his trips. Anyone who has watched his fights, and listened to the cornering will know he will let the opponent work on him against the cage, the Moises fight being a clear example (go listen to the cornering).
@upkickmma
@upkickmma 6 месяцев назад
For sure, my point wasn't about the fight so much. It was about DC's commentary, he has so many moments like this where he just starts a thought and has to finish it. He wasn't talking about Islam being backed up against the cage he was sitting on the comment and the second they started grappling he just blurted it out regardless of the outcome. Islam looked great and I hope he starts fighting lightweights soon.

I agree with your assessment of the Ward/Storley fight, it WAS a premature stoppage. While I'm sure getting punched in the face obviously doesn't feel good, like you said he wasn't rocked, he wasn't cut, he was blocking punches and standing up. You may not know, but Ward severely injured his elbow and tore his shoulder several weeks before the fight. So he was essentially one armed going into the fight, he's already called for a rematch to this fight.

He just kept going for the same technique and failing the exact same way every time. I know it's easy for me to sit on the outside and say that he should have done something else, but if you fail on a takedown and get stuck in a front headlock it is so damn tiring. You would figure that he wouldn't go for it the same way twice let alone 4 or 5 times. I appreciate the comment, thank you for watching through multiple breakdowns.

Important to say Pinedo missed weight by 200gr. Also, his flight was delayed 2 days (days he couldn’t train) and despite of that he only missed weight by 200gr. Pinedo was penalized which can affect last minute the game plan and he didn’t win by split decision, he demolished Jenkins. This is not the same case of fighters not cutting weight and arriving +5lbs. Overall, it is clear the best fighter is in the final.

04:10 how was it going Diakiese's way? He just lay n prayed for 2 mins on Joel's guard and did Nothing. No gnp, no guard pass, no sub attempt, ... then Joel beat him up in 30 secs and was clearly going for it. It was clear as day that if someone showed up to fight it was Joel. Also Marc tried milking the head clash cause he was gassed. If this gets overturned it will be a disgrace. And ofc Joel doesn't need to beat him TWICE.
@upkickmma
@upkickmma 9 месяцев назад
The way I saw it playing out was Mark made his adjustment to wrestle more and get into grappling exchanges. This doesn't mean it would work or that he would win for sure, but if he continued to hold him down for that round and the next it would be Marks' fight. I'm not a fan that fighting style, nor am I fan of Diakiese in general. Joel won the first round for sure, but a there were multiple instances of clashing head on this card and they all were treated different. I can't stand inconsistency. I also would not be interested in them fighting again, I am never interested in rematch fights like this were is has no implications on the division or purpose for their careers. Thanks for watching and commenting.
