My dad, Phil Brey, always had a knack for dreaming up witty lyrics and setting them to his own catchy melodies. Over the years he amassed an impressive number of well-crafted songs evoking such timeless motifs as soured romances, homesickness, and, of course, all things railroad related. However, his compositions, although holding great potential, continued to languish in obscure manuscripts and yellowed notebooks. His songs increasingly seemed destined to disappear into time.
Fortunately, aware of this rich motherlode of songs, my dad and I began recording his songs to preserve them for family and friends and to also make them available to the wider public. We called our project “Nebraska 66” after a local highway.

a legend from the past is born again at last to rumble over mountains and the plains. from the golden age of steam an engine sails unseen by those who never lived in back on days, Big Boy was her name and went on to railroad fame as the largest engine on the U P line the last of all her class she survives from out the past to show the power of steam in modern times. Have seen "big boy" in Missouri, gives me goosebumps, what a beautiful sight. Bless all those dedicated people at UP that worked sooo hard to bring 4014 alive again. Many thousands of people have lined the rails for just a glimpse of "big boy". Safe journey to all involved. Roll on big boy!!!
So i'm watching this vid that was Made since 2021 (3 years ago), well anyways, i'll wait for a 2024 watcher LOL, i'll wait for someone else to respond...
Unfortunately, it is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my father, Phil Brey. Some of you already know that he and I started the Nebraska 66 recording project to record his many compositions. He wrote all of the songs we released, including the perennial favorite Roll on Big Boy. He also provided crucial input on our music and video productions. Thanks to all for your messages of condolence and continuing support.
RIP Phil, he came up with great lyrics for this song, I make sure to listen to this song on the way to school every day. Again, RIP Phil, you will not be forgotten.
