Hello. my name is Olivier Ozoux and I make music. then I make videos about my music. then I talk about how I make music, and I talk about how I make videos about my music, and I also occasionally make fun little stop-motion unboxing videos.
I'm told I have a cool little home studio, with real fake grass, and all kinds of hardware synths. The rule? everything needs to fit in a single cubic meter worth of synths. ( or 35.3147 cubic feet which isn't nearly as fun to say)
More information about my gear on kit.co (link below)
All good, last year was a huge transition, we decided to move to France, sold our place in Santa Monica, packed everything ina container ( including all the synths!! ) to send it floating on the ocean even before we had a solid destination. Life is slowly going to a new normal, finally found a job, bought an amazing house near Paris with both a music studio ( to be built ) and a huge artist space. Hoping to get back to recording and creating this summer
Hi Olivier, Congratulations on all your videos. I sent my deluge for repairs to Majella Engineering in the Netherlands because the SD card reader was no longer working. So I was curious to see the inside of it. Good musical continuation!!
Great video. Thanks. Very helpful to see what options exist in the settings and I agree with your choice of config. Very flexible little box. Just what I need. Have just bought a MK2 used.
This is truly a DIY synth. If they are offering changes like this to keep the device functional as they continue to develop. This is unheard of in the synth/groove box community.
First thanks a lot for taking the time to break the ice - i assume that each audio samples is signed - to make the code "cleaner" should you use the absolute value to compare against your threshold ? i'm asking to get a better understand of the input values to that PROCESS function. What is the range to audio samples inputs ? thanks again Olivier !
I've recently rediscovered the joy of creating electronic music following a 12 year hiatus (life got in the way) and picked up an OLED Deluge a couple of months ago. I really love the concept of the DAW-less rig and use your music as inspiration for where I'd to go musically. 'House Bound' and 'Les Temps Est Bon' get a lot of playtime at my house. Nicely done.
I'm expecting mine in the mail next week so doing some preliminary research on the programming stuff. Never coded a line of DSP and haven't used C++ for about 30 years, but we'll see how it goes :D This was a nice little primer, thanks.
If I wanted to do the opposite (a setup full mono to maximise my in/out in a space restricted home studio) can I use TRS -> TS cable (left and right signal get "fused" together) to convert stereo to mono or it is not a good idea?
Ace! Thank you for taking the time to do this. I learnt loads going through that. Such a great solution for introducing melody to the Euclidean setting especially, had been scratching me noodle about that for a while. Pyramid is (still) an ace box, but it takes time to get fluent enough for it to be fun and quick enough to get a workflow.. great tips like this show that it's worth persevering!
Quick question (thinking of buying a Squarp); if something fails, obv. it would be better to repair or clean, but in a pinch, are all buttons midi assignable? (meaning that; can you plug in a pad controller to the midi in, and have those pads act as the pads on the sequencer (with backlight feedback)?
hi Olivier. How is the Squarp for sequencing the Korg ES2 - or maybe I should ask how does the ES2 respond? I was thinking to sell mt ES2 as I feel its limited as a sequencer. But now thinking it could be kept as a 16 sample playback device. So how compatible are the two? I know the squarp has powerful MIDI CC FX. Does the ES2 jam well with this? /cheers
Glad this exsits, since Im always so curious to look at the insides of the electronics I have, so this saves me from messing up the deconstruction, though it doesn't look more complicated than a laptop. Seeing the membrane switches does make me less hopeful for a velocity sensitive pad upgrade in the future though, since it seems like they might have to switch out the entire board for that to be possible? Anyways, relly cool vid!
Hello Olivier, thanks a lot for the beautiful explanation. Unfortunately I can t go further after the step "make", because in my case it creates just the "build" folder and no "waves.ntkdigunit". I am pretty new with the programming worls, and I would be really happy if you could share with me any idea where the problem could be,,, all the steps before I made them carefully, also on a mac. Thanks
Thanks for the video Olivier. By any chance, do you know if and how it would also be possible to record and trigger multi-sampled individual drums (instead of notes) onto the 16 pads (view) so as to create and play with multi-velocity, multilayered drums (for more realistic, multi-sampled drums or to record velocity modulated electronic ones)… like having a 16 multi-velocity, multilayered snares, hi-hats, base drum or toms on each of the pads (similar to the 4 multilayered drums one can have on an MPC)? I hope this long question makes sense and is clear enough for you, if not let me know! All the best,
If you are into modular / semi-modular gear, you can create automations that you can’t really do with the TD3. As far as the sound itself, I don’t have the other one, and it’s a matter of personal taste anyway
power is on the back, a simple plug, and I'm using the audio out from the top of the Model D, didn't think there was any advantage in the one from the original case.
Hello , off topic . sorry but... do you still have Deluge ? And, do you stilla have Pyramid ? They got the 4.0 firmware and now Deluge is a 90% complete daw in a box., thanks to his new features. But still, control over grooveboxes and daws was always an issue. Expecially for hardwares , adfor who like me has many problem to feel performing his music. I would love to ask you about Squarp Pyramid beaing used as a controller for deluge. I recently got there are few controllers that does a good job , but wjat about a sequencer controller? YOu said , and I remember that Pyramid can run circles around Deluge. I got it, but it's not for me. I had pyramid and making a complete track ready to record is a nightmare. I bought deluge as a SoundSource+Sequencer ( orthe oppisite order) , mainly for its capability to express SONG MODE in a real and unique way: Orizzontal . So I am ok , and I bought even a keryboard to enjoy the chords from deluge ,and truly going to buy a Novation Launchpad PROmk3 to have fun with launcing clips. BUT ...!! Pyramid ?????? Can I use pyramid as slave to mainly : 1-SEQ ? Can I launch color groups with it ? I mean can you assign a color secontion per SEQ ? 2-TRACk - Can I on off tracks from TRACK mode and enjoy midi effects rom there ? 3 - STEP mode - Can create midi tracks on SEQ and record automations in to Deluge? Can we match the lenght of the patterns and record them togheter? 4 Live MOde .. Is it recording good from pyramid on Deluge ? I feel like having both I can get deeper in details with pyramid and record all midi in to Deluge. Also Pyramid can export midi files, so basically If I record midi patterns form deluge to pyramid , then I can export all the work on pc ? Thanks for reading Oliver. have a great time
Thanks! The encoders look study. The mini jacks look like they could be replaced if they were damaged. Couldn't tell much about the display. Do you know where these are manufactured?
