Food For Mzansi is an initiative to introduce South Africans to the unsung heroes of the agricultural industry. We unashamedly share success stories and good news from the farms and agri-businesses who feed South Africa. We believe in the power of agriculture to promote nation building and social cohesion by telling stories that are often overlooked by broader society.
Furthermore, we would like to introduce ordinary people to the many career opportunities available within the agriculture space.
Interesting insights into a very exciting new wine brand. Having tasted the range I was very impressed by all the wines but particularly the white wine blend ( sauvignon blanc/semillion) and the Syrah. The wines from this region are elegant, refined and carry an 'old world' feel. Wade is being very modest about his wine making achievements . The wines speak for themselves... highly recommended....
Viva DA is busy to Safe South Africa Country with workshops. Ignoring the EEF, MK and Ramophasa ANC including Zuma to be Presidents of South Africa Country still Court Cases in and out messing with South Africans Millions of black Presidents.
His interview sounds a bit "practiced" to me. I hope the authenticity will come through once he's exposed to the sector on a larger scale. Keeping an eye on this...
The only challenge we're facing is land accessibility, most of us hold qualification in this department but we're having difficulties to start. Speaking on behalf of youth we honestly love innovation
John seems very down to earth in this interview. I enjoyed listening to him and although I know absolutely nothing about agriculture, he gave me the impression that this sector is in good hands under his leadership. Let's just hope nobody tries to sabotage anything. We need to put our country first.
Very informative interview which has clear direction on John's part. Well articulated and your success as the Agriculture Minister will be mirrored in the success of all of the producers in the food chain.
You are welcome to see the work we are doing in the WC. We feel there is tremendous opportunity to assist local farmers in creating more employment. Waste in agri processing is our main focus.
Minister John , how are you going to make this food production afordable to the poor of the poor 😢 currently the majority, are only able to admire 🥺 💛 🥰 😍 💓 unable to aford the fruit and veggies , especially the children of the poor and elderly. 😢 😂 😭
Society often judges based on superficial criteria, like only having a matric. However, this overlooks a profound truth: it’s not about the car you drive but the skill and determination of the driver. True value and capabilities aren’t measured by material possessions or accolades but by how a person utilizes what they have, no matter how limited. This teaches us that our worth isn’t dictated by societal standards or external validations. Greatness lies in resilience, creativity, and the ability to maximize our resources. In life, it’s the journey and the choices we make with our given tools that define us. We should celebrate those who, despite having little, rise to greatness through their unwavering spirit and tenacity.
Please John introduce Agriculture at our Basic Education schools . These students will develop the love of agriculture at a very young age . After passing matric they will proceed to obtain Agricultural degrees at University level. Remember Agriculture has many sectors.
SA has too many small subsistence farms, we need to drive a lot of growth there. There are folks that know how to farm, the issue for a lot of them is just scaling. You need a government subsidised operational support network, Tracktors and harvesters on the move farm to farm..
The goverment should boost the small farmers they can make a huge dent on thd market. And for that reason the commecial farmers will keep on stepping on the small farmers.
As a farmer I wasn’t too sure about John but I must say he has some good intentions. I like the humility with which he is approaching the industry. And I agree fully with what he said about the agricultural ministry having a voice. Most people don’t know the Agriculture minister. God speed John !!👨🏿🌾👨🏽🌾👨🏻🌾🫡🇿🇦
Congratulations John we looking forward to seeing what you can bring to the table and believe you have what it takes to turn things around. Definitely touched on some key points.
Change the narrative of "small farmers" being non-white farmers to family driven farms across all cultures and you will have much more success. Millions and millions of rands are being wasted on individuals who are connected - the focus is not on economical and enviromentally sustainable production, but rather outrages infrastructure development to enrich the tenderpreneurs and their connections in government positions. Please stop this and get that money into food production John!
Great interview, sounds like John has an indepth understanding of the challenges in the agricultural sector and will hit the ground running. All the best, we will be watching this space to see that you implement what you are promising.
Small farmers of all ethnicities should get the same assistance. By the fact of the population numbers, there should automatically be 70% black. That's if there is the apatite by black people to actually enter the sector and don't just want the land to on-sell.
The minimum wage will have to be put on hold for 10 years to grow a low wage economy before transitioning to a higher wage economy. If you don't, automation and mechanisation will displace/prevent this.
