When Lenin was in power, many started a cult of personality around him but he did not want it. Stalin actively encouraged it and built it. Khrushchev, his successor, denounced the cult of personality in his “secret speech” at the 20th party congress, and his policies of destalinisation were so successful that even when he was ousted from power, he was not put through a show trial as Stalin would have done, but allowed to live a normal life. And yeah, it’s not real communism. Communism by definition has no state, especially an authoritarian one.
