Would you ever consider building one of these carriages for a price? I have a cannon barrel and would love such a carriage to mount it on. What I don’t have is all those tools and the knowledge to build one. If this is something you would consider please let me know and maybe we can discuss.
In a book called “Round Shot and Rammers”. Pages 84-85. They are just drawings and I measured everything with calipers and resized with 1.82:1 scale. I used information in the book and other places for original sizes and got the scale from the barrel I had made so many years ago. Didn’t want it to be out of scale. If I can help with anything just let me know.
No sir, none that I can find. I will be putting up another video soon showing the over/under close up not too long from now. Have video at this point just want to get more video loading and shooting rifle and shotgun then I will post. Would have been nice to have the makers name.
@@MotoFelipe thank you for the reply. It looks very similar to an 1850s-1860s over/under mule ear that was made in Michigan. I know many of them had similar designs. I was just curious. Thanks
It could be that you are correct because my grandfather and great grandfather were from Michigan. Lived close to Vestaburg. I have wondered who the maker was. Thanks for sharing.
I would give you my email but then it would be open for anyone to see. Maybe you could put some pictures or make a short video and upload it on your channel and then I can see them.
Great cannon! I shoot a .69cal artillery cannon built to English 12 pounder design in National Competitions in the UK. I use 65gns Vesuvius b/powder with a .675" ball + 20th patch. My barrel is Ardessa made but the carriage I made very similar to yourself just followed the English Napoleonic design. It is great fun and I compete against a great group of guys in the Muzzle Loaders of Great Britain club.
Wow! Sounds great what you do with your cannon. Where I live I know of no other cannon owners or shooters. Would be fun! I’d like to see a picture of yours. Oh, thanks for your kind words.
That is a seriously good looking cannon, have u fired any groups with full dia balls or shot only. Our cannon club shot smooth bore at 200yds & rifled guns at 400yds, the accuresy of the rifled guns is realy something, when all goes well they shred the bullseye, iv'e even managed to score first place a time or two
Thank you. I shot a ball bearing out of it many years ago with only the barrel laying in the grass. It went about 4 inches into a railroad tie. Since then I have not shot anything except powder and lead shot. That sounds interesting what you are telling me though about smooth bores at 200 yards. I will have to get some balls and try it out. Thanks again.
@@MotoFelipe that 200yds night be stetching it for a small one, ours have sights, 2 of mine have scopes also. When test firing before they have sights I use a rod sometimes in bbl as a pointer. One time we fired it w/the rod still in it just because we could. It went about 50yds before tumbling, now maby with some fins
@@michaelpierson7256 I imagine 25 yards would be more like it. I can unscrew the breech to line it up. You’ll have to send me a picture of some of the ones you have. Sounds pretty fancy.
I saw the powder charges you used and my mouth dropped. For context, the military load of the civil war Pritchett cartridge was 2.5 drams, or roughly 68 grains of 1f.
Incredible job! Thanks so much for sharing. I love the way you carved the eyelids to make the glass eyes look even more realistic. I'm planning on making a rocking horse for my great niece and nephew and I'm hoping to attempt to do the same thing
