If they stopped the attack, 2400 people would have lived and completely affected the future in a different way. Children would have been born that never existed and everything we know about the last 80 years would be completely different.
The Castle joins The Dish, Local Hero, Waking Ned Devine and The Commitments on the top tier of Wonderful Movies that are over-the-top rewarding each and every viewing.
Great movie! Jake Dennis is the pilot of the SH-3H shown in this clip, and he has a cameo at the 2:00 mark. He was in Helo Squadron 9 out of Jax. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helicopter_Anti-Submarine_Squadron_9 Prior to this movie, he was our neighbor in Bonita, CA
This was a fun "what if" movie. In reality, the brass already knew the attack was coming. It was even predicted on civilian radio broadcasts in Hawaii on Saturday. It was also preceded by a submarine attack. Even Pan Am grounded it's Clipper because it knew stuff was about to hit the fan. No, Pearl Harbor was known in advance. FDR was looking for an excuse to trigger the US. FDR also sent hundreds of merchant marines to their graves by suppressing articles about the u boat offensive and the actual cargo sailing east.
The navy also had men working 3 solid shifts on that weekend to make fuel depots harder to bomb on Midway. They knew islands would be hit ... they just didn't know in what order.
If the Japanese were prevented from attacking pearl harbour USA wouldn’t have joined WW2. Germany would defeat USSR or USSR would defeat Germany. Both outcomes would have been a disaster for the work. Either Germany wouldn’t be defeated and would control all of Europe or USSR would have defeated Germany and all of Europe would be communist satellites of USSR. FORTUNATELY WE CANT REWRITE HISTORY
Climb Mount Nitaka" the Japanese pilot must've been shocked when they knew his secret password especially in the very first time the Japanese entered the war! This scene with the Japanese pilot reminds me of the classic star trek episode called "Tomorrow is yesterday " where the American fighter pilot spots what he thinks is a ufo and gets beamed aboard the Enterprise.
The one thing about this movie I never understood was the fact that Kirk Douglas' character would have been a young man when the attack on Pearl Harbour occurred, and yet he never once thinks about where he was at that time. Were I to be thrown back in time 39 years (1985!!), I'd wonder about the path my life would be taking.
I am an American but I have known a few Australian people and they all recommended this film, still can’t believe how hilarious it really is, a gem and I love Eric nana as the bizarre kickboxer? First time I saw him in a movie
Funny thing is that Nimitz is the Admiral of the US Navy at that time. Imagine hearing a ship that is named after current admiral or famous politician like USS Biden this day. Lol
I miss the Tomcat. I had to opportunity to see one at an airshow in Tampa Florida in 1985. It influenced my decision to become a Crew Chief in the Air Force. And after 20 years in (now retired) and working on numerous jets over the years, it was a mistake to "replace" the Tomcat with the F/18 Super Hornet and F-35A. I know budgets and politics and whatnot. But this fighter was incredible, and even the proposed "Super Tomcat" was impressive. This jet should have been modded and redesigned to become a sort of "Command and Control" aircraft. It has more than enough room to carry highly advanced sensors, AESA radar, full jamming and surveillance, and digital linkage with all aircraft in its Strike Force. Basically a mini AWACS. It could act as a target acquirer and coordinator for both land and aerial attacks. And if it had been evolved and improved with modern materials and engines, we could have a "Stealth Tomcat" with a Mach 2 or better speed. Variable geometry engines, and a roar that would give even a MiG-35 or Sukhoi Su-57 pause. If they lived long enough to even have seen an "Ultra Tomcat" or F/A-14SC (Stealth Command).
Just think of more Sophisticated AirCraft Carriers and Destroyers and submarines carrying thousands of deadliest NUCLEAR PAYLOAD EVER.. SEA LAUNCHED FROM THEIR RESPECTIVE SHIPS..
