Daniel Bruun is organist at Helleruplund Church while also pursuing a career as a concert organist. Several CDs with critical acclaim have won him international attention, and he has performed concerts all over Europe and in Colombia. His repertoire is wide-ranging, but with special focus on 19th and 20th century music.
His first CD, "French Impressions" was released in 2013. The critics said, among other things, "… superb virtuosity with intense rhythmics and a totally convincing musical structure." In 2014, Daniel Bruun performed as a soloist with the Royal Danish Orchestra in Hartmann's "Festive Tones" and a transcription of Carl Nielsen's 3. symphony for brass and organ.
In 2017, he released "Variations Sérieuses", with works by Liszt, Schumann, Mendelssohn and Reubke. It was rated 10 out of 10 in Klassik-Heute. In 2018, he was invited to perform in the "Bach en Bogotá" festival, during which all organ works by J. S. Bach were performed for the 1. time in Colombia.

I'm a string player, so maybe my views on phrasing are irrelevant. You either change the direction of the bow or you don't. You can't help being decisive about phrasing. On the organ, where you have no variation of either loudness or timbre from note to note, about the only expressive resource you have is articulation. Even that gets lost in a cathedral acoustic. But where acoustic does have some clarity, clear, definite and consistent phrasing surely comes into its own. I think this piece wants thorough rethinking.
I remember when I played it on a recital I gave in Germany. Here's the registration used in that occasion: Rückpositiv: Gedeckt 8', Prinzipal 4', Oktave 2', Quinte 1 1/3', Oktave 1' & Scharf 4f. Pedal: Subbass 16' Prinzipal 8', Oktave 4' & Rp/Ped.
Masterly played Daniel, I can only clap my hands for your great work - congenial! I give you 10 of 10 points. If you publish a version in which the reverberation has not been faded out, I will give you 11 of 10 points, Sire.
Dear Daniel! Please pardon me and thank you for your answer. So I give you 12 of 10 points. Your playing is so sublime, so reverent, focused, dignified, proud, loving, uncompromising, strong, powerful - wonderful! I'm sure the greatest composer of all time would be very happy with your performance. God bless you and your work, Daniel!
What an absolutely amazing rendition of this melodic piece this is! It makes my soul soar. I admire the intricate trio-like structure. I am floored by the superb performance of Mr. Bruun. Naturally, I subscribed and will go through all his recordings. Thank you, sir from Canada.
Thanks, Daniel, for your reply. I'm so pleased that all is well with you - and your musical career! If/when you are able to upload again - it will, I'm sure, be greatly appreciated! Tony (UK) @@OrganistDanielBruun
Perfect but to faaaaaassstttttt Slowly it's better for every perfects notes of partiture Mmmm Slowly please It's not a race de have all how time to hear perfection
Gut gemacht Carsten. Aber echt! Mark (Arizona)
Thank you for your comment. I really like this tempo, I think it fits the organ and the acoustic. But it could perhaps be a bit slower - I will think about it🙂
@@OrganistDanielBruun As you know, Franck is specific about his tempo indications. Even the Cantabile in B major, marked 'Non troppo lento' is specific because it is not anything else, such as 'Andante,' 'Andantino' or even 'Allegretto.' For the Piece Heroique, I feel that the 'maestoso' fits perfectly with 'Heroique.'
@@DangerousFacts48 A question for you - if you were to hear this performance not knowing the tempo indication, what would you guess the tempo indication to be?
@@organman52 Probably Allegro moderato - which is similar to Allegro maestoso. Either way, the organist isn't wrong here. Any slower wouldn't be Allegro anything
He played the piece in 1932 on his tour in the United States. At that time he was ill with diabetes and had many problems playing the big and complex american instruments. The tour was a failure and he got a lot of bad reviews from critics. Getting increasingly ill and depressed, he died the following year, 55 years old.
