Of all the many renditions of Lonely Town, this version by Charlie Hayden and Shirley Horn evokes the true feeling of loneliness that the composition was meant trigger. How many times in my world travels to the big and small towns have I had this feeling that Shirley brought memories to my brain as I miss ed my wife and son.

This song heads the lineup on the CD "The Art of Song." It's a ballad that I never tire of hearing, even after many years. The second time Shirley returns to the lyric "Unless there's love, the world's an empty place" I am completely sold on her, very thankful for good music and musicians.
