Exploring psychedelic therapy and addiction recovery.
The purpose of this channel is to educate people in addiction recovery about psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy and to provide other addiction recovery related content to help support people in addiction recovery. I believe that people have the dignity and the right to recover on their own terms. There are many paths to addiction recovery.
-ABOUT- My name is Dan Ronken, LPC, LAC. I'm a licensed therapist and a person in long-term recovery from addiction. My hobbies include biking, eating sushi, reading, hiking, yoga, skiing, camping, and traveling. I have been described as kind, positive, adventurous, joyful, entrepreneurial, and a risk-taker.
Hang in there Mannsy. Help is available and good for you for taking action and just know that everything changes…it’s just a matter of time. You got this.
This is a very sad situation that you could actually get a visit with a phone call to get this type of drug that Killed Matthew Perry ketamine killed Matthew perry and eat people could say they’re in pain people could say a lot of things that may not wanna pay my doctor you know when he gives me Motrin 800 and that serious pain new people don’t need to have jobs
It’s hard to follow exactly what you’re saying due to maybe auto-correct? What I will say is Matthew Perry’s was very tragic and complex and it’s true that ketamine was involved and at the same time there were a host of other issues that contributed to his death. Ketamine-assisted therapy model is a very different thing and can be extremely helpful (and life saving) for a lot of people. Lots of gray area here. Having a trusted medical and therapist team is paramount for safety and best outcomes.
Is there anyway to connect with either of you? I’m going to die without a solution like this. This guy just told My fucking story. The whole thing. All the fear. The AA. The very little unconditional love but having a couple people that have stayed but unfortunately continue to be hurt by my hurt. I’m literally begging to connect with one of you
Hey Daniel, Hang in there. What’s your email? and if the struggling feels like too much know that help is available. If it feels like too much and you’re gonna hurt yourself or someone else there’s an emergency 988 number to call anytime 24 hours a day. You are not alone
I have been depressed for a long time, but after taking mushrooms few months ago, l feel much happier and highly motivated and my ADHD gone , lost a ton of anxiousness and had a few epiphanies about how I should live my life. I decided to buy an ounce for backup, but haven’t yet felt the need to take any more since then.
I believe I understand the futility of switching seats on the titanic since it’s going down anyway, but I’m not clear on what the titanic is a metaphor here in this context?
I have been sober for 2,5 years and have been contemplating using weed (my DOC) again. I'm not sure whether or not it's a good idea. A lot of stressful things have been going on in my life over the past couple of months. I have appointments coming up with my doctor and psychologist but was wondering if microdosing shrooms would help me find out the core of what's actually going on in my head - I've been trying to find out sober for months but can't find the problem
First, congratulations on your 2.5 years of sobriety from your drug of choice (DOC)! I'm sorry to hear about the stressful things going on recently. I'm so glad to hear you have appointments scheduled with both your doc as well as your psychologist. Do you feel comfortable sharing with them your desire to explore other ways of healing, including potentially microdosing psilocybin? I'm not in a position to advise you whether to take psilocybin yet what I can say is that I believe you should have access to all available tools to heal you get to the core of "what's going on in my head." Would you be open to attending a PIR meeting? Adding this to your schedule along with the above appointments seems like a good approach. You're not alone.
I'm highly interested in learning more. I've been in recovery for multiple years and found recovery through a profound DMT experience. I go to NA myself have a sponsor, and actually just graduated with a 💯% average from an ACSW (Addictions and Community Services Worker) program. I would love to learn more and am thoroughly interested. Love, Light, and Peace, Dave
Congratulations on your recovery and your recent graduation from ACSW! Nice work! I A great place to start would be to check out PIR's website psychedelicsinrecovery.org and then maybe check out a meeting sometime if interested.
@@raffael7952 yes, I have an ACMPR license and grow medical cannabis. My recovery is a little bit unorthodox or unconventional to some. Hence, the interest in a psychedelic 12-step community. What works for me may not work for you or others, but my life has been 100% better without fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, etc. Have a blessed day and a happy 24 💚
@@raffael7952 Not sure where my other comment went, but yes I do grow cannabis. I have an ACMPR license and grow medicinally. My recovery may be seen as unorthodox or unconventional to some and may not be a great fit for all but recovery is an individual journey and my life is a hundred times better than it was before. Have a blessed day and a happy 24 💚
I am in kansas, i would really like to find out if this is something that could finally help me with the things i have that so far I iust cant seem to face and really process. Thank you for posting these!
I have really suffered for years with major depression, panic and anxiety to the point it has completely held my life back. There are issues i need to adress but so far i just cant get it all out into words. I have been looking into this but honestly im a little scared to try it. The dissociative part honestly terrfies me. But, i know if i want to have the life i truly want i have to address the things holding me back. Thank you for posting this. It helps to know a little more about the experience and benefits of this therapy.
I'm so sorry to hear you've been suffering for so many years. Many people are taken aback by the term "dissociative." Yes that's technically how ketamine is categorized but my colleagues and I prefer the term "transcendent." The reason is that ketamine allows for someone to rise above their normal everyday waking consciousness to see their patterns or other things differently. And no matter how far out you go, you will always come back. Please make sure to seek out a trained medical prescriber and therapist to support you throughout this process if you decide this is something you'd like to pursue. Good luck and you got this!
Actually, some of the clinical work was very well done, even if they lacked your modern expertise. Both Weyburn and Hollywood Hospital in British Columbia used ‘set’ and ‘setting’ but only put the name ‘psychedelic’ (Osmond,1956)on the map and Leary and Eisner get credit with ‘set’ and ‘setting’ but it is clear Hubbard, Blewett and Osmond were using the concept in the 1950s. I did hundreds of ketamine treatments for chronic pain. Most patients were also depressed and the results for the pain and the depression were good. LSD treatment re just too long to be practical for outpatients, but great for inpatients.
Thank you for adding your experience and insight here. It sounds like you have a lot of experience in treating people for chronic pain. I'm sure many people benefited from your treatments. Thank you. Also, I'm glad to hear the clinical work may have been more robust as described in this video.
@@danronken So good to hear from you man. Didn’t know if you would see my message, glad you did. Drove past old Taft park and they built a new box track just like back in the days when we did BMX. Made me think of the good old days . Great memories man. I still like to get on the mountain bike go on adventures. Hope the family is doing well. Hope to see you soon my friend
Thanks for this. The study looks promising. Ive used magic mushrooms recreationally before. Now I think I might try them again to help me stop drinking.
Don't add ssri and psilo dr Rajesh mo ketamine is best for recovery addicts I in controlled medical setting.i saw the results v promising in my patients
I am beginning a micro dose regimen in an attempt to treat severe alcoholism today, 12/30/2023. I will update with my progress. Thanks for making this video, as it has given me the courage to try something new to better myself and the quality of my life. Adam C. 48 y.o. male heavy drinker with a 35 year history of cross addiction to almost anything I could find.
Sending lots of support your way! 2.5 years sober myself, thanks to psilocybin. I now work in addiction treatment as a licensed psilocybin facilitator here in Oregon and I have seen many clients struggling with addiction completely cease or significantly reduce use of substance. My advice, like with any sobriety, it all starts with the self. If you're willing to do the work and look inwards🙏
I've shared this on my channel, let's see what type of kickback I get, being an AA channel, but I'm on the very edge of the boundaries of abstinence based recovery.
I just started micro dosing yesterday, 11-1-23 with intentions of confronting my ego, anger and alcoholism. I plan to micro for a few days and work my way up to higher doses over time.
@@hadenbeckley8886 went very well! I did .2g capsules in the mornings. 3 days on, 2 days off. For the whole month of November. Then Dec 1 I took a 1g dose. During the month of micro, I really connected with myself and was reading the Bible a lot more than usual. Connecting with God better than before. Didn't drink for November-December. It's been a few months and I can tell that I'm not fully cured and that this is gonna have to be something I do on a regular basis as I've felt some of my old habits trying to creep back in. But I'm fully aware of it now where I wasn't before, or I just didn't care.. the shrooms definitely open up the mind and help you so so much!
Man i had an intense experience off an eighth a couple weeks ago. It was my first time in like 30 years but it started really rough but i pulled through and was shown qhat a horrible person i am
It may seem like semantics but decriminalisation doesn't mean it's the 'lowest priority for law enforcement'. There is no enforcement by police.. That's the point. However, police still have some input even when drugs are decriminalised, to refer people they encounter to various services. And in some countries that have decriminalised like Portugal, there are still what you might call 'punishments' but they're civil, not criminal matters. LIke you might have your driving licence taken away if you keep getting caught with something.
I appreciate this clarification. Thank you. Also, here is an update on Prop 122 (which is now law in CO) vicentellp.com/insights/ultimate-guide-to-sb23290-colorado-natural-medicine-psychedelics-regulation-and-legalization-bill/ I’ll add this in the description of the video as well.
Thanks, these are some good reminders, there’s no question that increasing your mental clarity and boosting your drive, comes with quitting. Yes, there are many ways to kick the habit, Steffon Barkload's Quit Drinking Forever is what worked for me, best shortcut I go’ogled that took days without withdrawal.
Exactly, it's a fact that quitting booze not only makes your world a better place to be in, good things start to “magically” happen and the energy is insane! Steffon Barkload's Quit Drinking Forever, that’s the best shortcut I go’ogled that took less than a week to work without suffering withdrawal.
I was able to transfer from a 76 wheat grow to Justin ogata, as a cmhs wrestling accident survivor. Died early 50s as my brother, a frustrated particle physicist.
You clearly do not understand what it is like to be stuck in addiction and chemical dependency. I certainly hope no one struggling with addiction in your life is being told this by you.
Mushrooms saved me from a rollercoaster of mental health issues.I was so close to ending it all but did a lot of research as a cry for help, which led me to give mushrooms a try. I'm thankful I did, it's the most growth and healing I ever got. It completely changed my life. So glad it helped you!
My son is alcoholic and desperately wants to get rid of this harmful habit. He heard that microdosing psilocybin mushrooms can help him, but unfortunately he doesnt have long enough periods of continued sobriety to start microdosing. When he has days during the week when he is sober, can he start microdosing on those days hoping that it will help him eventually to get rid of this nasty dependency? Or it is dangerous to mix mushrooms and alcohol together during the same week?
How is your son doing these days? My advice is that even if you are actively still struggling with addiction, it is safe so continue to microdose, SO LONG as you are still in the right headspace. With microdosing, the goal is neuroplasticity which takes time to further develop. There are benefits to a single larger dose specifically with addiction treatment, but do your preparation and have a safe set/setting with intentions in place.
@@abhishekKanodia803 Well, the closest option that I'm aware of could be in London. Here is a reputable clinic awaknclinics.com/locations (they are also involved in the research). Best of of luck and take care. Thank you.
Well Mareen that’s a tough one to answer given that I can’t give medical advice but what I can say it one of the tenants of recovery that I think is important to ask is borrowed from Gabe Mate which it not “tell me about the addiction.” It’s “tell me about the pain.” This might yield to a fruitful conversation in identifying the purpose of the specific addiction. Ketamine may be able to help someone see their life situation from a broader perspective which might support change yet I can’t say that it’s “good for heroin addiction.” Also ibogaine shows great promise in healing from heroin addiction yet it’s very important to be medically monitored as it has the potential to be dangerous (and even deadly) if not closely screened and monitored.
It certainly can be misused when used outside of the therapeutic process and protocols. This is why it’s really important to have proper screening in place (medically and psychologically) and to really have open and honest communication about the purpose of considering this type of therapy.
Hi THETA N HEX, Congratulations on your recovery journey on becoming opiate free! Glad to hear you’ve been helped with plant medicine. Wishing you the best.
