Great piece written by Richard Gere who starred with Sam Shepard in Days of Heaven, a masterpiece: google "Richard Gere Recalls Working With Sam Shepard on ‘Days of Heaven’ (Guest Column) "
This was the follow up to the first Cha-Ching commercial. But the very first airings had him saying Ka-chunk!! rather than Cha-Ching! Ka-chunk didn’t catch on, so they edited this commercial by dubbing Cha-Ching on top of the original Ka-chunk.
You don't say what a "blue screen" is, but I do know the great music of these corny beach movies throws rocks at the plots, themes and acting! Very well done - and probably all we'd ever need to see.
They filmed this scene a mile from my house, in San Dimas, California on Walnut Avenue. My mom took us to see all of the action with all the lights and the actors and a lot of cameras! It was a big deal for a 7 year old kid in 1968! Where'd the time go?!
This happened in my hometown one time with the daycare van. The van stalled on a railroad crossing and a coal train was coming. Fortunately a construction worker driving a backhoe pushed us off the tracks before the train came racing through. No one got hit.
I've been to Waimea 50 years ago when I was in my 20's. Being from Seattle, I only learned to surf the little Honolulu waves on large rent-a-boards, so I didn't even think about going in at Waimea. A place very Jan & Dean fan should visit.
It's one of my favorites too. Even before I really appreciated Sam Shepard, I loved this scene. He made an impact on me before I even knew what was happening. Funny thing he was good at, I guess. :)
His character was an overlooked one in this and not once Ouiser mentioned or despised. He’s annoyed at her in the beginning with dyed eggs, she comes home after a good time on the town and he’s along smoking and sitting in front of the TV, then at the end he stops being a lazy husband and comes with her to the funeral.
The rear projection on the credits sequence is hilarious. And one of the strangest cosmetic choices, IMO: making Shelley Faberes, a brunette, blonde, while making the real blonde, Barbara Eden, a redhead.
Gee Barbara Eden couldn't be foxy enough she had to go and become a redhead!! Never heard of Susan Hart but she sure looks a lot like Alexandra Paul from Baywatch.
Too bad David turned out to be such a snake, having an affair with Bobby's real life wife at that time. She left Bobby for David (extremely stupid) had 3 kids with David then divorced him. True definition of a gold-digger
It was at this point in the film that I thought that the other plane couldn't have hit this one soon enough .. it should have happened during the song !
Blue screen? Certainly not in 1963, and not on movie film. They acted in front of a projected image, like every "driving in the car" scene long before and long after this movie.
This commercial would pop up in my head for the longest time, and I didn't even know what it was for! Rally's... LOL and that's Seth Green! Who'd have guessed? Love his wild cackle at the end!
It is at most a several hour drive from the school to Dorney Park, where the group is headed when this scene occurs. There is no way it would require an overnight drive.
