Leslie warren was horrible. Stockard is obviously so great but no way as lois. The first actress bland. Raffin no good. Kidder is so great in her very first screen test they obviously brought her back for the niagra falls screen test to prove to someone we want her. The salkans wanted the very first actress we see. Anne archer was to breathy
Donner said he put shoe polish in his hair b/c chris had sandy blonde hair. He also is so thin also he just turned only 24 playing 30 hes amazing right away. This is his very first screen test & they were blown away. He also bulked up to 225 from 160. He got ripped. His acting so young knowing brando hackman are on this huge production is amazing. The year before he waa at juliard already chosen by legends like hepburn to co star in her play & the great jukiard professor admissions & oscar winner john houseman chose reeve robin williams of course many know they were bffs to be in his person advanced class. Chris i believe if not for the accident had so many big things comibg. He was going to direct & star in a coppola movie. As a kid i had a crush on him as clark but hes also even more gorgeous than i remembered. Plus he was on the muppet show & literally shows off speaking french fluently plays the piano & sings really well. His auduo book is incredible. This must have been sone worldwind b/c he also met his first long term gf & became a father while filming ! Margot hands down is the best
Obviously the writing had been sharpened up by the time they actually filmed these scenes, but even without that, Kidder - who I didn't appreciate as a kid - absolutely steamrolls these other actresses. She plays cynical, self-absorbed, yet brain in a million places at once who is won over by Supes inspite of herself.
Margot mogged all the other acresses so hard. She was the only was who was natural, managed to shine like a leading lady, and had chemistry with Reeve.
I wasn't that great fan of Margot Kidder as Lois. She was ok but who was the runner up in the casting. From 3 actresses in this video I like Anne and Debra audio better then Margot. I think Debra could be great Lois. For me the casting of Lois in the movies has been hit and miss. Margot Kidder and Amy Adams too old and Kate Bosworth too young as it happened couple years after Superman 2 with Lois having a kid.
Margot destroyed! The others are cringe. Stockard channing is a legend but too hard to play lois. She just did grease but she still sounds very rizzo. They won't show the screen tests at all for superman just here & there clips not the lois tests at length. The guys are all from the glimpses are a joke. Casting must have freaked. The salkans wanted Redford nick nolte or burt Reynolds thank god no to all. I never get why it's always a fight for the unknown. How do u ever find new talent. Funny for Micheal corleone & rocky they wanted same Redford! Omg can u see blonde blue eyed Redford playing micheal. Who's supposed to be a dark eyed dark hair Sicilian. I know brando is not Italian but it's Brando playing older in makeup & James Caan isn't Italian but he's great as sonny. U don't have to be Italian just Redford in the 70s was basically brad Pitt. So picture Pitt as micheal or as superman.

Stockhard channing is such a brilliant actress she does it all sings dances obviously huge movies & great Broadway but no way ever for lois. The other actresses just get destroyed by kidder. She literally never needed any changing of how she played lois. Plus her & reeves chemistry is magic. They have it already nailed the clark & lois bickering yet instantly show the sexual tension. Margot said she & Chris at first bickered like brother & sister but became very close like big sis little brother but also close friends. They both talk about how he was only 24 just out of prestigious juliard so took himself dead serious while waiting around for filming & long long days in the harness while Margot would be joking around teasing him relentlessly until he said " don't u ever stay in character " & she Said " oh please chris I'm in this harness strapped to u for 15 hrs lighten up when they say action ill look at u madly in love " lol. After that they were very close. I love hearing nice stories about co stars esp how great these 2 are on screen playing the romance so well yet playing clark & lois where he's like her love sick pet. Carrie fishers book destroyed how I see her & Harrison on screen in the first star wars forever. He was so awful to her. Imagine married man 33 seducing a drunken 19 year old carrie. Bootie calls every weekend but he never spoke to her after they'd sleep together he acted like he didn't know her all day on set . I get he was married but her age her trying so hard to get him to love her is so sad. Plus u could be nice to the girl. Operative word. While poor mark waa clueless took them out to dinner when they first made out in a cab & then he acted like he hated her when they were all normal b4 that she Saud mark was like wtf & she later confided to him & he was so nice to her. Anyway mark was so cute much closer to her age 23 & had a crush on her. Carrie u should have picked mark. Lol. Anyway that's why I don't love casting a teen w/ the much older love interest. Plus he left his wife anyway b/c he was sleeping w/ openly co stars on som3 of his failed projects til he got raiders. So to hear such nice stories that Margot & chris were really great friends zero creepy stuff or bad stories of affairs or actors hating eachother it's really sweet. Another horror story meryl streep & dustin hoffman. I know they are playing a divorcing couple in deep pain but the man hit her b4 a scene to get her in " character" it's again dustin acting talked crap about her just dead boyfriend the late john cazale ( fredo) smashed a real wine glass w/o her knowledge not a breakaway so shards could have hit her & it's sad to know her scared reaction in the scene was real. So ty chris & Margot not only were u amazing onscreen but had such a great friendship/family type relationship as filming went on. Both were so beautiful to look at as well in part 1. I swear b/c Margot was so critical of donner being fired they did her hair makeup wardrobe horribly for lesters reshoots. She even looks physically stressed. As lois in part 1 she is in amazing shape part 2 she looks thinner noticeably like she hated being there to re do what she did. The producers turned off everyone. Screenwriter Tom M refused to return for the re shoots hackman too. Brando threatened to sue them if they used his footage w/o honoring his contract which was 11% of the gross. Chris loved donner but what could he do he was fired before this came out he was forced to return to reshoot like Margot. Even though Otis miss tessmacher Terrance & lex are in part 2 they weren't back for reshoots as they already did their scenes. Miss tess manger weirdly leaves the movie early they used a body double for hackman & voice actor for a couple scenes. Totally unnecessary to fire donner & I didn't know they even brought lester in as a go between & to show donner as they threatened to fire him daily after they felt shooting went too long. The man was never told a budget nor an end date & was filming 2 huge movies in 3 different countries plus one quick shot in Fiji when superman gets lois flowers. This man Margot said never slept stayed behind w/ chris for an extra 6 months to do the special effects than another 3 to do the editing cutting etc. Oh & john Williams also upset refused to part 2's score. The lester scenes look bad & the slap stick crap awful. Lester born American but mostly raused in England did those cutesy Beatles movies he had no lov3 for superman as donner did & made what was a serious n9n camp film corny again. He totally did part 3 which is horrid. Love Pryor but this was reeves movie. Lois is in it 2 min & the only good part is clark vs superman. The computer gus creates originally in donners vision was supposed to be brainiac. Hated the smallville stuff. Lana was pretty but really wasn't into Ricky or that annoying drunk Brad. Part 4 is terrible but of course the best best parts are lois & clark & lois & superman. I loved how much lois cared for clark & went to cheer him up when he was in trouble than w/ the " flu" she talked to him kept offering to take care of him for once get him chicken soup. I also liked how clark wasn't played so dorky corny & innocent but it had been 10 years he figured clark progressed as a more seasoned guy. I even loved clark in smallville where he's even more himself talking to the real estate guy who knew him & the Kent's since he was a baby & was begging clark to sell to a mall when he Said no a farm the old timer respected him didn't push & left. They even played a moment of batting practice. That's why hearing donner say they had a plan to do 4 or 5 films given the wealth of material u had reeve kidder even hackman returned. The salkans started this all off so well even wanting to make part 1 & get brando hackman & donner locked in but than they got weird. Then when part 3 def made money but much less than the previous 2 they were done sold out to Canon known for making those cheap fast bad movies cut the budget. The movie looks tv level at times. That's why again kidder & reeve are gold & I can watch their scenes as they hold up in part 4 a terrible film.
Nice try spengler not buying donner ever quit. Whats gross is lester had the never to be in the huge wrap photo cast crew artists donner & chris are center stage kneeling while lester is standing right above donner behind him. What a creep move. They knew lester was gonna direct. But how dare he as a fellow director. Thats why i love hackman refusing to come back he was mad. Margot was vocal so im convinced they reshot her in terrible wardrobe hair makeup. Lois had a very old school classic look to her & part 2 her hair is short & curled her clothes esp her cringe night gown when she & superman consumate finally. Donner ive seen the stills had her in a cute superman long t shirt. In the donner cut it was never shot yet so they had a long shot of lois in the shirt. Also lois smoked in one scene but kinda elegant on her balcony in that gorgeous blue dress In lesters shes like a truck driver ciggie in the office dangling w/ the lois gag shes into freshly squuezed oj so clark can ha ha get his finger crushed in the juicer. Its supposed to be so funny how lois looks terrible chain smoking as the ash tray is piled too & shes into her juice
