how funny !! in new zealand where these are made , we have to pay $300 extra for the rudder & toe taps … & we get a downgraded seat from what you have you’d think they wouldn’t rip the people off in the country it’s made in
A bit late but here I am. I have owned this Kayak for two years in the molten lava color. I don't fish in it so I can't speak to standing stability, but when using sitting down, it feels very stable. I usually go out to the bay where the water can be choppy and I've had no issues. The pedal drives are great and even by myself, I can move well in it. The turning radius is not great but not bad either. A rudder upgrade might be needed since I did experience poor response from my rudder control. I've tried it with two people in the bay and it handles well. You can really move with two people pedaling and when the water is calm and the wind is down. I have not taken much water in as some have experienced. The scupper holes are there to alleviate water intrusion and the kayak will not sink when taking on some water unless you remove the storage hatch covers and let a ton of water into the interior of the body. The kayak is 14 ft long and can be a bit heavy for one person but I can still load it onto my truck by myself without too much strain. It doesn't have paddle holders but a few bungee cords will do the trick. By the way, they also include two paddles as well as the pedal drives. I am no expert, but this kayak was a great value in my eyes and having the option to take someone else with me, on occasion, has been great.
I will order this boat, if you guys still have one stock or the 120. 8 fish in the FL.Keys mangroves, flats, and back country."Questions" you didn't cover. What is the hole in front of the hatch for, it's not a scupper hole? Is there a transducer mount like the 120? Does it accept the Bixpy gravity rudder kit? I just purchased my newer model J2 Bixpy pp-768. I sold my Tempest 120P. I love Hoodoo because of all they give you, no other company gives you all that to start out. I have all my batteries, lights, electronics, and all other accessories. Would love to know those answers. That's a lot so the color i wanted. 🌊 😎 🎣
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you reverse-engineer a majority of the products in your household you’ll be in for a rude awakening as to where they come from…
There is a transducer molded area on the left side just behind the seat. Standing when on flat water is very doable based on how your balance is. I can stand and cast no problem
Hi. I bought my beloved Viking Reload from you. Over a year of hard use and I love it still. The hatches are waterproof, not water resistant. I have videos of my reload in action in Ventura County, just south of Tom's Shop. Never leaked a drop into the hull or the 3 storage circle thingies. Click on my name to get my channel and then click on videos. I obviously use the kayak in the ocean with 100% success. The molded in handles (very important) and the scupper holes are used to tie down the kayak when car topping. The tackle pod is beyond great and will spoil you. The light weight will spoil you. The great paddling performance will spoil you. Every time I am around other boaters/kayakers they comment on how nice the kayak is, especially when it is next to one of the other brand kayaks that weigh 100 or more... This is more of a sports car than a cargo van. It is sexy looking and reasonably fast. I want a freshwater kayak and a speedy recreation boat now. I tried a Feelfree Mokken 12.5 V2. The kayak is only 12' long but weighs 85 pounds. After paddling my Viking, I find it hard to paddle the low performance Mokken. After using the tackle pod, I simply cannot function with the small and cheap and yucky sonar pod the Mokken gives you. I will say the frame seat is comfy though, and the wheel in the keel is cool. I have only used the Mokken 2 times, and it is retired. It is now a guest or friend kayak. I do not paddle such a low performance boat, or one that heavy. So now I am looking at freshwater kayaks and the only kayak I really want is the Viking GT. It only weighs 55 pounds. Also, it uses the same tackle pod. I plan on keeping 1 tackle pod open for storage and the other tackle pod for my sonar/gps. I will pick between the Reload and the GT, and then pick the tackle pod I want. Very cool modular design. I also am looking at buying the Oxygen Surf Ski from Viking. It gives 2 huge advantages over all other skis. It costs $1200 as compared to any other skis which start at $3700, and rapidly go up from there. Also, it is made from rotomolded plastic and has a rudder specifically designed for rough freshwater use. The other lighter more expensive skis can only be used in deep water as they are fragile. The Oxygen can bash through shallow rivers and rocks and trees and whatever. There is a review of the Oxygen where the guy says the Oxygen is actually best on a river and that he had just done a 16 mile trip on the river with great ease and that he did it quickly. Viking makes high-quality high-performance boats at reasonable prices. I recommend them highly as a person who uses one in the Pacific Ocean. Look at my videos and see for yourself. Hey Tom, hope things are good for you at the shop. Nice to see you again even if only on a RU-vid video. Is your Kraken rebuilt yet? Having that restored and in use would be awesome.
Kiwi is an ongoing colour I believe. I just bought one direct from Viking (I am in NZ). Stunning product that is unbelievably customizable to almost any fishing need.
If you want pedals with a prop, hoodoo offers the tempest 120 or now you can get a prop drive for the impulse with a special adapted for the prop drive $599 total
I'd like to see you develop a three divider kit made out of 1/8 starboard. I seen the YA divider kit made out of bungee and think it's too flimsy. I'd like to have solid dividers.
hi have you tried it on the ocean yet with 2 people? There is 2 people on hoodoo sports website giving reviews that "the kayak is taking so much water on the hull with 2 people" I would like to buy, but if the kayak takes on water and sinking, simply it is a deal breaker. Thanks
The fin drive only goes forward but you take the drive out and turn it around and put it back in to go in reverse. Some folks are buying the Hobie 180 fin drive and putting That in to replace the stock fin drive to get reverse but it runs $1000 for just the drive
I have a problem with the drive popping out on my 105. I think the clips are in wrong but have seen 3 different vids with them in 3 different ways. How are they supposed to be installed?
If it's the fim drive have them send you the old school hobie locks for the version one. It'll never pop out. I just bought mine, because hoodoo doesn't carry them. Go to Fingerless fisherman on you tube. Watch his vid he tells you the clips that fixed his for good..
If you're on flat water, the stability is fine if you're used to standing on kayaks. It handles just fine depending on the strength of the paddler on the back.
I was looking at the Feelfree version of this kayak and not only is their’s $1000 more it also does not include a second pedal drive as the tempest does. Am I missing something or is the tempest just that much of an exceptional value? I am new to kayaks and I’m just wondering about this during my research. Thank you!
Hi Doug, the tempest only comes with one pedal drive, the one with the prop. It is a great value but also note that is does not have some of the bells and whistles that the lure or feel free pedal kayaks have. It’s a great entry point kayak will last a while.
@@tomreilly8563 i live in eastern ohio about 30 miles west of Pittsburgh. I tried to find a dealer locator but they dont seem to have one on their site. Any suggestions?
Have you put it on the ocean yet? I want to take it out on the Chesapeake Bay with the wife or dog. How is the turning radius? Does it have paddle holders?
I have not put in the ocean yet but plan to next week. Turning radius is good but make sure your rudder lines are tight. It does have paddle holders but I would use a paddle leash also
The seat can be set to the low position but if you need it to be lower factory then you can look at a different seat not sure yet of which ones fit but I can look into it
Great walkthrough. Love my Impulse 10 5. My Bixpy J2 motor. All the starter equipment Hoodoo gives you is awsome. No kayak company gives you all that I'm 5ft 7 151 lbs. This is my mini bass boat setup. I fish large lakes, resevoirs for bass and love to trout fish. All my add-ons, accessories, diy's, electronics, and so much more. She's my 1st and last kayak. I see no reason to upgrade. She's stored inside, and washed after every trip.I See this boat lasting me for all my fishing day's, and going into season 2 some tournament fishing. 🎣 😎 🙏
