*Waqf Board is a de facto Government Department. The government always has control over Waqf actions, all talks to control it are just to increase political Polarization.* Recently we are seeing much Media Outrage against the Waqf Board. Many leaders are demanding the abolishing of the Waqf Board claiming that this sovereign organization is illegally encroaching on the land of common people. Let's see the truth about the Waqf Board. WAQF board is a government body created through an act [1]passed by the parliament of India. The government has the right to suspend the working of the WAQF board or even correct its decision if they feel like it is going against its principle. The Chairperson of the Central WAQF Council (the highest Waqf body of India) is always the Union Minority Minister, and currently is BJP=RSS Leader Smriti Zubin Irani[2]. All the members of Central Waqf council too are BJP=RSS members. According to the WAKF ACT 1995 the Union Minister in charge of the Central Waqf Council can through the council of ministers make rules related to the working of Central Wakf board,tenure and salary of its members, and control over Wakf Funds(Section 12(1)). She also can advise the State WAKFs on how to work according to the rules laid and in the history of the waqf board state waqf boards had always followed any advice issued to them by the central council. The state waqf board members are mostly appointed by state governments. The state governments have the power to cancel the waqf board for 6 months in case of corruption allegations (not even proven), this cancellation can be further extended to 1 year, and new elections for waqf board can be declared. In 2015 AAP government of Delhi had “superseded” the waqf board claiming to found some irregularities in waqf working[3] . State waqf boards have 7 to 20 members and with the majority, these members(mostly appointed by state governments) can replace the waqf chairman anytime. The tribunal that hears cases against waqf board consists of an additional Judge, a judge, and a scholar of Sharia all of whom are appointed by state governments. These facts prove that waqf boards are controlled by state and central governments and all of their “shenanigans” are approved by the government.
