Awesome video and top notch production quality. One thing I would like to correct is the thought that the minor pentatonic scale was only recently added to the flute. This is a complete falsehood, in fact Doc Tate Nevaquaya (Comanche) recorded albums in the 70s with minor pentatonic flutes, also Belo Cozads famous “Story of the Flute” song recorded in the 1940s is also in the minor pentatonic scale - and can be replicated today almost 90 years later. The voicing for the Breckenridge flute is also in a modified minor pentatonic scale as well, just without the fundamental note. While flutes were in various scales, the minor pentatonic was one that was common and it wasn’t created in the 80s or a Shakuhachi that inspired it. This is common misinformation that has been going around for years now. As an indigenous flute player myself, it is important for this information to be corrected, as we have been playing this instrument for 1000+ years at this point, and a non-indigenous person in the late 20th century did not invent the flute and scale we play on.

I play several in there. I'm not sure which one you are referring to for sure, but I think you mean the mid E flute at the beginning made by Jon Norris.

100% agree about the smell of a "burned bamboo" flute... when I was 10 years old (about 1977) my mom and I were at a small Flea Market in Southern California when we came across a guy who was making and playing bamboo flutes... somehow the sound they produced and smell of burning the holes intrigued me and I convinced my mom to spend $5 to buy me a flute with an included velvet sleeve to keep it in... I had it for years, but never really learned to play it.. but boy, I sure loved the way it smelled.. over the next few years I lost track of it... fast forward to 2009 and while cleaning out my fathers home after his passing, I opened a cardboard box and immediately recognized that velvet sleeve.... the flute was still in it and in pristine condition.... I pulled it out and the smell of those burned holes brought me right back to 1977. So yeah, a "burned hole flute" holds a special place in my heart... and yes, I still have to this day, almost 50 yeast later.... still haven't learned to play it, but occasionally take it out just to smell it...

I have the same design preservation flute from High Spirits. I love it so much. Much more of a challenge since it's a bit bigger. I love that you play all different kinds of native flutes. 😊 Keep playing and we will keep listening.❤
