Welcome to my journey as an archer. I'm William Alderman, and this channel is where I'll document my victories and challenges. Join me as we explore the world of archery together, learning from each other and striving for improvement. Let's take on this beautiful journey of archery together!
Oh dude of course. I am a hunter first. Saddle hunter at that. I love being mobile and getting up close to some deer and see them move and learn their patterns. I wish I could do some western style hunting but right now I am just enjoying my whitetail hunting. If you look at some of my other videos that I am a talking head in. I have the few "baby trophies" behind me hanging up. Hunting was the way I rationalized the initial purchase of a bow. Now I am in love with the process of perfecting archery as a skill.
@@walderman55 cruzr xc with a trophyline edp platform with novix mini sticks with aiders. May switch and get the trophyline onxy are the tethrd one sticks. My saddle not gonna change yet but if i do i will be getting me a custom one made from Tx5 which is here in Texas.
@@CowboyOutdoors Cruzr are king! Dude nice set up! I like it. You run single aider or double? I'm not sure I've heard of tx5. The idea of a custom saddle sounds pretty dope!
Definitely want to try TAC one day. I’m glad to hear you can go solo and do it. I’m a loaner in the sport where I’m at, so it would be cool to go shoot and hang out with some like minded people who just enjoy archery. Thanks for the video, hope your channel takes off man!!!!
Man definitely go. I legit showed up in a cut off and shorts and ended up having the time of my life a second year in a row......okay maybe time of my life is an extreme way of putting it. But all in all, it's very fun man and you will definitely find people that are like minded. Community defiantly helps the sport get that much more fun. I hope your local community builds ups soon. And dude thanks for the hopes for the channel. I would be happy if it grows for sure.
I went to TAC last year at Seven Springs for the first time. I was shooting by myself (my wife was with me but she was just shooting video) and each course i was on i ended up joining a smaller group or another solo individual. I just walked up and asked if i could join them, and then had a very pleasant time and got into a lot of fun conversations. I even met some people who recognized me from my channel or were customers (which is surreal when it happens for the first time.) The whole event has an aire of "community" to it. The participants come from all different socioeconomic levels and backgrounds; and we're all there to do the same thing: lose and break arrows while having fun doing it 😂. I'll be a Seven Springs next week. Really looking forward to it. As for going Pro, it's all about networking and marketability. Grow your RU-vid channel, go to events, talk with manufacturers, network with other content creators, and see where it goes. That being said, it's more fun when you don't rely on it to pay your bills.
Dude!!! I love it man! I Totally agree with everything you said. Definitely community oriented. Enjoy the Seven Springs trip. that will defiantly be very fun. And thanks man. I appreciate the advice. I don't see my self stopping my full time gig since I love it also so much. I simply want to compete with the big boys and see what those boogie men are really doing in the dark. I want to see what top level guys are actually doing in person. Looking forward to seeing where all of this takes me.
Love it, get oit there and get after it; looking forward to seeing how you progress in tournament. You think about running a Title? Tac is totally worth it.
Dude that’s the plan! Just gotta get do it to it. And man! A Title is what I was making reference to in the video that my wife cleared lol I just got one for a steal and some other gear with it. So I’m looking forward to tuning it up! Not I just have to wait until it gets here.
@@walderman55 currently running an older Prime centergy 33 as a general purpose setup. But this year or next going to upgrade for target etc. carbon pro landslyde, specialty archery podium peep, Scott hinge release, custom diy bars, and black Eagle carnivore 350 coming in at 389 grains and 18% foc with X3 vanes for 3D, and Skylon Bruxx 23's for indoor.
@@the_sharp_carpenter dude let's go! I love it! I especially the fact you aren't just keeping up with the Joneses and just master the bow you have. I think it's going to make your new set up that much more sweet and in some ways maybe hard. At least for me I have a hard time swapping things out just because. I need to know it's for s reason. So that's awesome dude. I love the list of gear. All of that sounds super legit to me. Definitely like the landalyde as well. Its a money sight or sure.
I use the Tru-Ball Goat. Medium. I prefer a smaller release. I feel that it locks in to my hand a bit better compared to the large. Not that you asked for the extra 😆
@@walderman55 I appreciate the extra! Lol. My First and only thumb release that I’ve shot is the Tru-ball Boss X which I love, but it’s more for tournaments, has a loud click when you fire and no wrist strap, so not ideal for hunting. So I purchased a Tru-ball Max Pro because it has the same frame with a wrist strap and no click, but I’m not able to get the trigger sensitivity where I want it. After punching myself in the face three times, I’ve decided to look for a different release. Lol. Might try a three finger. Any suggestions? Thanks! I subscribed to your channel, looking forward to your content.
@billymcmillen202 If you like the extra, I'll answer this question in full. But before I do, please remember I have limited experience since I'm still fairly new to the sport (about 4 years). I definitely think deeply about all the gear I've tried out but my scope of practice isn't all that big. That being said, if you like the Boss X I say keep it even with the lack of a wrist strap whole and the loud noise. My goat doesn't have a technical hole for a wrist strap but I put the rope through where the thumb button connects and it works like a charm. I actually made a video on the topic. "Why a thumb button is better" (Side note: The new Goat releases have holes in them for a wrist strap. But I have the older model). Regarding the noise, I have yet to have a deer jump my string or the click and I've harvested about 10 deer with it in the 2 years of owning it. So maybe I've been lucky but overall, it's been solid for me. Now if you want to get a new release because you want to try some stuff out that has a very nice trigger. I am also all for that. So if it's not clear, I am a big fan of the Goat of course and don't see myself switching from it. Every time I try something else I go back to it and fall in love. I also really like the triggers in the Stan Perfex releases if I am honest. And they have holes for a wrist strap built in if that is what you are looking for. However, the form factor is a bit too skinny for my hand so for long term use it doesn't sit in my hand exactly like I want it to. But that being said, they can get pretty sensitive and have a really crips break. Now, I waited to find the Stan on the used market for my wife. But it was a real upgrade from her other release. So long story short. - Tru-Ball Goat (newer model with the wrist strap connection. - Stan Perfex (heavy metal)
Great video! That’s why I love bow hunting/archery because it’s a sport for the masses. It’s healthy mentally and physically and gets you into the great outdoors. Keep grinding!
@@walderman55 Yes sir, anytime. I have been doing it for 40 years and love it more now than I did and I believe as archers/bow hunters we should always stick together no matter where you are in your journey. You definitely gained a follower.
@@gemeni69 Dude thats encouraging. I appreciate that. And man, 40 years is a good chunk of time. Thats pretty awesome! So I have a question for you actually if thats cool. Since you have had so much time in archery, have you felt that there is a divide between the Bow hunting and archery community? or has that been pretty seemless?
Let’s gooo bro…make it happen man start calling yourself a pro now, speak it into existence ..one of the cleanest shots that I’ve found on RU-vid…by the way I shot a 3d course a couple weeks back and it’s def different from targets I lost a arrow and hit a tree😂…keep doing ya thing fam

@@whatisarchery WWOOOOOOO lets go! I'll definitely peep it when that drops. And man thank you. Aint that the truth. I just gotta take it one step at a time.
I'm not sure I know what that feature is. Is it actually called drag offset? What is the benefit to it exactly? (I'm legit asking) please share. I wasn't to find the best way to make a tape.
I suppose it may not still exist ! But you give/gave it the marks for three different sight marks and it extrapolates the rest of the marks, I usually go with 20, 60 and 100 (just because it should be as close as possible), but it will take 20, 40 and 60 and it will give a solid guess out to 100
I give it a physical measure (usually in mm), for the gaps between 3 marks usually 20, 60 and 100 (20, 40 and 60 works but less accurately) and it extrapolates to the other unspecified distances (with 100 as a given the marks between should be relatively constant, if 60 is max then there is some guesswork from the accuracy of the mark provided and the distance beyond it that offer to be estimated )
With 5 (or 6 ?) Tapes around the given initial estimate one of the tapes is unusually very close The other thing that I do is to laminate the tapes in plastic and screw them to the sight bar (as long as I place it close to the middle and fail to punch a hole thru the plastic and the paper there is never any water ingress, if I get special and have to place a hole in the paper thru the plastic I use some super glue to mitigate the potential future water, but its suboptimal !) Both my Shibuya and my old Sure-Loc had metal sight tapes to allow screwing on (my old Hog Father just had to be taped down and was known to slip if I twisted the wheel on the tape)
@@colingregory7464 OH yes yes they still do that for sure. I use that feature on both of them. and dude the laminating definitely is a good move. my paper is label paper so it tends to not smear or leak. So thats been good. but I love the tips and tricks. All of that makes perfect sense to me. I legit love all the details you gave. Thank you you for taking the time to share all of the details. Have you tried precision cut. I find the user interface to be more user friendly. I am not sure which one is a better software but ease of use definitely goes to Precision Cut.
Great content I'm new here I've not been yet just fixing to, the closest one to me is the Oklahoma tac, don't know where your from but hope to see you out there,God bless piece out
The struggle is real! Some of the shots we had I was wondering if there were actually possible windows to shoot through. Which is what makes it that so fun in my eyes.
Glad I’ve had a front row seat witnessing your progression! Also, chasing and shooting with you has caused me to get better! Hyped for the next phase of your archery journey bro! Road to pro! They don’t know what’s coming! FQ!
beautiful shots my man! got that thing dialed. what distance are you shooting those dots from? seems to be about 20-30 possibly? it would be sick to shoot with you
Thanks man! Definitely feeling good about my set up at the moment. These were just at 20yds. And man where are you from? Might be able to make that happen.
Thanks man, and Yes sir I did. I wish I could do more TAC events, But I could only do the GA one this year since it's pretty close to me in TN. But hopefully I can do more next year.
Been thinking bout getting one of those scope. Want the smaller version tho. Haven't pulled the trigger yet cant really find any good info on how this scope is so different from all the others besides the lights function. All i hear people talking bout its the lights.
Dude I feel you so much! Honestly if I didn't get the steal of a deal I got. I'm not sure I'd ever get it for multiple reasons. Especially with your point about the actual size of the scope housing. But as of right now it might end up being my main hunting scope. To be honest with you though, I don't know if it's worth the money due to a few factors. I'll have to do a review and really break it down. But it's always fun trying new gear.
@@the_sharp_carpenteryeah the center point of the scope is definitely a bonus. But that's if I buy all UV stuff. But I honestly want to get the Optum for a target scope. So I'm not sure it's an exact one to one center point. Do you know if it still lines up?
@@the_sharp_carpenter I'm thinking more smaller housing for a single pin. To max distance and point of focus. I'm not sure what I want regarding the point. I definitely like the idea of a center point and running a fiber or sticker. But I'm still learning what it is that I actually like. I want to get some glass but I have to pace my self. I've been saving for a bit so maybe it's time to buy some new gear lol.
Thanks man! I'm loving the set up. I'm running my V3X at 31.5 draw at 75lb mods. My arrow is the Rip TKO at full length with the Easton hit inserts with a 100 grain point with gold old trustee blazers. So total arrow weight at around 430 or something. I like to stay on the lower end of weight. I'm wanting to test out some tac drives vanes as well that I also have in the quiver but I've had some bow issues that have hinder that experiment a bit. So yeah lol that's the build in a nut shell
I just used archers advantage to make a sight tape for my bow. I ended up with a tape that is six fps slower than my actual velocity to get it hitting right. I do like the features of it though.
Yeah I don't have a Chrono 😥😥 so I can't compare speeds. But the more and more I use it the more I'm falling in love with it. Since this video I've made 2 more tapes for different reasons and have gotten it very accurate. Something I'm learning is that it's all trial and error for the most part. Just gotta put in the time. Which is why I like the "sight in" print out option that gives you 5 tapes in a general range to make sure you get the right one. I'd definitely suggest that if you continue with printing your own tapes. I only learned that tip because they commented on this video and told me about that feature. Which also makes me even happier to use their program because they are trying to make it better. So Ever since, it's been way smoother and way less of a headache.
Dude thanks! I hope to have more educational stuff to come. Just hard to find time to share the thinsh I've learned while wanting to simply shoot my bow for the limited time I do have to my self. Thanks for following.
Mane i went to my first tac here in texas last year. And i was just like you i was comfortable with my equipment. But after tac had me thinking and after deer season i broke everything down from getting a new bow to my form. When i say everything i mean everything. These tac events will show you what you got. Totally different ball game then shooting in the back yard
Dude heck yeah! I’ll be in the look out for sure! I met some dope people this year. Like Jeff from “Jakt Gear” Really cool guy and has some dope hunting gear if you are looking to upgrade any of your stuff. Dude enjoy! Have you been before? This was my second year.
Question; Looking at your shoulders not being directly over your hips, do you think you might be a little long on your draw length? Or could it be the camera angle? Im stepping my mod down on my V3X 33 because they run about .5 inches long. Might play around with the Austins Archer NBS draw stops too for tweaking it as well.
Dude that’s a great question. I’m honestly not 100% sure. I can say with some certainty, that when I shoot on flat ground I don’t tend to be that far back behind my hips. With where I cut in the range behind my house, on a steady incline, but the target is still at eye level, so I tend to compensate with my body to maintain a stable platform. Almost feels like I’m shooting up hill when I’m shooting at 20yds. Other distances at closer to flat ground. I’m Not sure if that’s technically right but for me when I do that I can stay relaxed and focused on my upper body feeling spread apart rather then jammed up in my upper body which I don’t like. I actually tried the 31 draw at the shop on flat ground and I felt crazy tight in my upper body. So last thing and I’ll be done. Haha but I also have been messing with my d loop length a bit, especially with my string issues as of late. So who knows, maybe I went a bit long this time. I love a long d loop So to be honest, “I don’t know”, is my final answer. Just figuring it out one day at a time. And enjoying the journey.
@@walderman55 A journey it is indeed. There are so many tiny details that change our holds, our shots etc and dang I cant wait till all of that is sorted out because it can kind of mess with your confidence in your shot. Thanks for the content and the response. Great shooting
@@andrewfernandez8330 man thanks for your feedback. I appreciate your question. I like forcing my self to think through those details. It allows me to simplify it all after the details have been worked out. And man thanks for watching. It’s fun making it.
Great breakdown bro! Do you relax your thumb and create a pull through motion/sensation? Or do you push your trigger with your thumb? If that makes sense
Thanks bro, I really appreciate your encouragement, To answer your question, I have to assume I’m already at the point of when I personally put my thumb on the trigger and have started my shot process in activating the actual release. I personally operate by applying pressure in all areas of my back side (shoulder elbow and hand) to activate my release. So I build tension in all those areas and when I feel solid about my pin float I speed the pressure up in my thumb to then activate the button. (I.E, punch it! 🥊) even though I'm not a fan of that terminology. Regarding the other method of activation (relax rotate thing) For me to maintain tension while try to relax one part of that system feels awkward and wrong. It feels like I’m trying to drive in two direction in my brain which I’m not. A fan of. So I try to maintain a steady flow of traffic mentally which to me is all tension! all go! which is calming for my brain. Also helps me hold way more steady. I think that’s because I can simplify my mental conversation in my head to “front to back” when the conversation flows in that direction I know its going to be a good shot.
Hypertrophy (i.e. larger muscles) is usually achieved through high reps and low weight Strength is usually achieved through high weight and low reps, though getting big tends to follow along with getting stronger. Depending on what you're training, "Reps in Reserve (RIR)" and intensity are two factors in whether a person is training sufficiently. I generally train with a pyramid style where I start with lower weight, higher reps, then increase the weight and lower the reps each subsequent set for 4 or 5 sets, depending on whether it's a main lift or an accessory). My heaviest set I try not to have more than 1 rep in reserve. If I can do one more than I was planning with good form, then it's time to increase the weight. I rarely Max out on singles. I have a full rack in my garage with safety straps, but I still don't see the point other than to verify my strength level. So my highest weight set is usually 4 reps. That's generally how I handle my workouts, but I think just about any program or rep scheme can be effective if the individual sticks with it.
I think you are on the right tract. But I also think it's important to fully flush out what it is you mean by light and heavy weights as it relates to the two general training goals you referenced. Id also love to talk about how the pyramid style rep scheme and how it fits into the over all plan you have for your self when going into the gym day in and day out. Because I think there could be a place for this style of lifting but its pretty specific and Id personally say its also probably not optimal for either side of the growth goals one usually has when going into the gym. Again not saying it's bad or that it has no use. Simply saying I think there are better ways about going about training when chasing after the goals that are found in this style of workout. Regarding maxing, yes defiantly agree, most adults have no Buisness maxed other then it feels good and could add an extrinsic motivation/goal to work towards which is EXTREMELY valuable and cannot be under appreciated. But regarding your last point about the effectiveness of a program. I would have to disagree. I think it's one super important to first identify why you are training in the first place. Because every training method (IE, Muscle stimulus) applied to the person will elicit pretty specific response for that individual based on a good bit of factors. Now, does this mean everyone needs to get extremely detailed in their workout plan? HECK NO!!! not even close. But I think having a goal is super crucial to a program's success. Now if the goal is simply to keep the body active and functional, yes just about anything can be beneficial, especially to the polar opposite options which is doing nothing. But without a goal based program. you will always miss the target. (Aim Small, Miss Small). just like archery, The "X" is the goal, Shot process/execution (Program and Execution) is the way we achieve this goal. All why I love archery because it's a small microcosm of decision making and practice to achieve such a simply goal. I hope that all makes sense and that I'm not coming off as a know it all. Typing a response is always sketchy to me because it lacks the human aspect. Always in love man. PS I'm still waiting on a new video to drop from you. I feel like its been awhile since I've seen one pop in my feed.
@@walderman55 thank you for the detailed response. I agree with a lot of it. I'm editing a video on the TRU Ball Ultimate Flex right now and hopefully will have it out in a few days. The archery community has been good to me and is keeping me pretty busy with orders. So free time is tough to find between work, exercise, home life and actually shooting my bow. Hopefully I'll start getting more videos out soon. I have a few scripts I'm working on now. At this point (I'm turning 40 in August) my goal is to slowly increase my strength and maintain it as best as I can without getting injured. I don't really need to put on more mass (16" arms on my 5'6" frame is plenty), though come what may. I've tried a few different methods over the last 20 years and I find the pyramid style doing 12/10/8/6/4 on main lifts (not counting strict pullups, which i just do 4 sets of as many as i can; 19 so far) and 12/10/8/6 on accessory lifts to give me a good balance of strength gains and stamina as well as keeping myself from becoming bored. For me it's about positioning my heavy sets so I can either add weight or reps to them when I'm ready. I'm up to 495x4 on a trap bar deadlift, 285x4 on flat bench, 345x4 on safety bar squats (not sure about low bar since I hurt my left shoulder doing weighted dips). The numbers keep inching their way up, so I'm happy with it. For others it might not work as effectively. It's a good amount of volume, and I do it 3 times a week hitting a push, pull and a leg each day as well as accessories. I could cut out some junk volume and do things differently, but I enjoy it as is and it serves me well. I do agree that routines need to be tailored to the individual, but exercise in general does not have to be as complicated as the fitness influencers make it look. Focusing on proper form is the most important part, and strength comes along with it. Making it interesting enough that the individual sticks with it is very important. As for what constitutes high weight and low weight, it's going to come down to the individual and his/her estimated one rep max. I'd be interested to hear how you structure your workout. You seem like you know your stuff 👍.
@@ajbholsters2035 dude I love it. I love the thought you put in to what you are doing and why you are doing it. I agree definitely, it doesn’t” have to be “ as complicated as they want to make it seem for the general public. I will say you can definitely get lost in the woods with everything if you aren’t careful. But I agree with keeping it simple and to the point as well as interesting enough for the individual. I’m sure you have heard of this, but look up periodization in its simplest form. With all the research and reading I’ve had to do over my years of being in the sports performance world, I’d say it’s the best way to stay fit while keeping this interesting block to block. The flexibility that each block can offer the individual can be specific and goal oriented while giving the person something to look forward to if they don’t like one particular block of training but need the particular results that comes with it!
It’d be better if it was a Hoyt! When you’re considering a new bow you have to shoot the Rx8 Ultra and Alpha X you’ll be pleasantly surprised my friend
I respect that! I’ll definitely let you know. I don’t think I’ll be swapping out this year. Maybe next year. But all and all I’m sure I’ll make a video about it if I ever do switch. But man! Mathews is something special! lol so that switch is pretty doubtful for me lol What are you shooting? (As if your comment didn’t tip you off already.)
@@bowdude33 oh yeah for sure! I love it! I don’t take this stuff personal. It’s all about being a better archer and loving on people in my eyes. And dude I totally agree, Honestly when I was shopping around I was torn between Hoyt and Mathews. They are both great quality bows.
Looking good. The consistency of your last group in terms of elevation shows your anchor and your eye/peep alignment are solid. The horizontal spread can have a few causes, but depending on how often you plan on shooting 100 yards, i wouldn't worry about it too much. That spread will shrink down to nothing the closer you get to your target, so keep up the good work 👍
Thanks dude. I’m happy with it For sure. The group was simple to see elevation for my sight tape. I wasn’t concerned about my windage if I’m honest. But I appreciate the encouragement for real! After this day of shooting I felt good enough to finally print a sight tape from precision cut. And it turned out very solid. So now it’s off to Tac
