I’ve had a wonderful dive down the rabbit hole this afternoon, looking for the version that you did in your concert in Edinburgh in (I think) 1981. I enjoyed meeting you at the party afterwards :-)
FRIDAY, JUNE 14, 2024 | I first came across Andy Robson when I was 9 in the late 80s. Used to air on ZNBC our national broadcaster. I never thought much of it then until I watched re-runs in my mid teens. I fell in love with it then and never missed an episode. I usually watched it alone as most folks in my household found it quite boring. Now in my 40s, flat caps are one of my signature accessories thanks to Andy Robson. This theme song has always stayed with me for nearly 35 years now.
Nothing is so good, it lasts eternally Perfect situations must go wrong But this has never yet prevented me Wanting far too much, for far too long Looking back, I could have played it differently Won a few more moments Who can tell? But it took time to understand the man Now, at least I know, I know him well Wasn't it good? (Oh, so good) Wasn't he fine? (Oh, so fine) Isn't it madness, he can't be mine? But in the end, he needs a little bit more than me More security He needs his fantasy and freedom I know him so well No one in your life is with you constantly No one is completely on your side And though I'd move my world to be with him Still, the gap between us is too wide Looking back (looking back), I could have played it differently (I could have played it some other way) Learned about the man before I fell (I was just a little careless) But I was ever so much younger then (maybe, so much younger then) Now, at least I know, I know him well Wasn't it good? (Oh, so good) Wasn't he fine? (Oh, so fine) Isn't it madness, he won't be mine? Didn't I know how it would go? If I knew from the start, why am I falling apart? Wasn't it good? Wasn't he fine? Isn't it madness, he won't be mine? But in the end, he needs a little bit more than me More security He needs his fantasy and freedom I know him so well It took time to understand him I know him so well
I love this evening with but my favourite part is not audible lily says something about harry Secombe having nipple clamps on under his duffel coat and if you read Barbara’s lips she replied he probably does which I think is funny. I was born in the same place as Barbara and met her several times she was always very happy to talk to you and a naturally warm and friendly lady. She is one of the most underrated singers and actors in the country and she has never aged and her voice is still incredible.
Wow...this is the best rendition of Roy Williamson's famous anthem of Scotland. I remember hearing it first at Lansdown Road as Ireland and Scotland played for each Country's Pride, many years ago now (early 90's before 1994 for certain) and Roy would have passed on by then.
Dougie has written magical music listen to the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack (sorry Trevour) i was in Scotland some weeks ago, and I told my folks that I really loved this version, and as all Scots will know it comes with a kicker, it was originally an advert for beer! Écosse you mean everything to ME?
