We're dedicated to the care and breeding of Zebra Finches, Society Finches, Gouldian Finches, any finch really. We celebrate finches in the wild and encourage their protection. We also support your right to enjoy them in aviculture and as pets.
I hand fed a zebra finch baby three month ago. I never thought he would make it but he survived and is a healthy pretty finch today. <3 The parents had left it after one week and I think I realized it a bit late. It was hungry and shivering. Its development took longer than usually, I think due to neglect but I am beyond happy he survived.
I used to hand-raise zebra finches and other birds and i often looked like a statue in the park, with 5or 6 finches perched on my ears and shoulder, along with cockatiels on my foot and my head, macaw babies inmy lap, african grey babies snugg.ed up with the cats and the dog looking very put out that the rabbit had taken her usualspot beside me on the couch. But the best time wasafter feeding everybody. I would put a towel across hy chest and tuck the s alest babie under my chin and the largest babies in the middle and place everbody else in comfortable spots, foldthe towel up around them and rock them to sleep. They were adorable, all of them, but the finches and the budgies wwere the cutest because they were so tiny. 😊❤❤❤❤❤😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
They don’t like being in those tinny cages. I hope they were not in there long. 😢. My finches have no cages. They have the entire pool area and back porch to roam and I even let them out to fly around and they come back in the evening to rest with protection. Finches love to fly. Unlike a lot of other birds which do it because they have to. They will fly just for the sake of flying. Keeping them in small cages is as bad as us being in a tinny cage. The males love to nest it’s in their nature. Parrots and birds that are kept in captivity is very sad if you can understand a birds needs and not interpret their actions the same as our actions. Zebra finch is my favorite breed. Their very friendly with other animals, very curious, love to play chase with each other, the best parents, extremely active and diligent. They appear to take one mate but I am not 100% certain. I have about 50 of them and they are always having babies. Some choose to live in the trees behind my house and I supply fresh seed and water and if they want to come home they roost on the top of our pool enclosure. And I let them in.
I use a commercial hand feeding formula. I used to use Laferber's because it was rice flour based as opposed to corn flour used in other formulas, but they will work too.
This changed my life entirely. When I was asleep I accidentally drove to my nearest pet store and requested for all of their zebra finches. They asked me why and I responded with the word " Lasagna ". They were confused but nevertheless they got me all of the finches, they didn't care to take them out of their cage since it would be too much work to put them in all of those cardboard boxes. I didn't pay and left the store, next day I wondered why there was so much beeping sounds. I checked to see and it was all of the finches I bought. I am now an owner of about 200 finches, send help.
they are not as fragile as they appear. In fact, these were abandoned by their parents and tossed to the floor. so they fell 4-5 feet to the ground (not hard, but still...)
