I still remember the day Gothic 3 released. Germans absolutely hated it. They seethed with how hard this Game was "Americanized" a word that I read back then a lot. The complete disrespect for the characters and how they were treated. I'd assume most outside the German scene wouldn't know about it.
It must be said that ff8 while great in some aspects is also terrible in terms of progression mechanics and general balance, one of the worst of the series. It had punishing level scaling, where not leveling at all the character is usually optimal. Very long GF summon sequences that are both unskippable, and too strong balance-wise when they are introduced, trapping the player into focusing on those alone.
Did you completely neglect the amor/weapon crafting in Inquisition? That allows you to increase you Attributes, Resistances, etc? Also, I'm glad the negatives in your conclusion haven't come true.
I'm not quite understanding the critique of the Infinity Engine CRPG rest system. Sure you could spam rest, but you couldn't rest in towns and there was always a risk that enemies would interrupt it - leaving you in a vulnerable combat state.
I think that Gollum's sin was that LotR is such a beloved IP. We've been waiting for an amazing LotR game for so long, and a game like that at full price feels like not only a slap in the face to the consumer, but a deep disrespect for the source material. However, anyone that has harassed the devs or anyone else involved in its production have no excuse. They're just being horrible people.
Some 5e haters that defend prebuffing make the excuse that you could just use a mod that automates buffing, but if you're just going to automate part of the game away, why even have it?
What a phenomenal video. I recently got into BG3 and it was been one of the best gaming experiences of my life. This video was so well put together and when you got to the end, I got goosebumps. I appreciate your efforts, you make amazing videos!
For how large the game is, the bosses, which is what’s most important to me, have always felt subpar and not memorable when compared to titles like ds1 or ds3. Some of the main bosses, like a random tarnished spell spammer and a 10 minute random giant felt underwhelming both lore and gameplay wise. I love the npc fights, but the largeness of the world does a disservice to the game. The quest lines are convoluted and underwhelming compared to other titles, and the large world guarantees that you are not gonna try every measly item out there. Discovering would be cool if a lot of the dungeons didn’t objectively suck to explore, and didn’t have nonsense reskinned bosses in them. Also a plethora of enemies creates both the idea of repetitive enemies and lots of enemies that are annoying to go against. While I can appreciate the open world aspect, it is something that should probably stay in other game titles.
Elden ring is the easiest of all the games you can use spirit summons to help just because you refuse to use them out of pride. People don’t realize that using spirit summons is the way to turn on easy mode if you refuse to use them out of pride it’s not the game makers fault for that.
I don't even play this series- but I am fucking loving the work that was put into a retrospective such as this. Good job man- a for sure subscribe right here!!
The enemy scaling is rather shit and rot lady's blender and poise damage immunity for some attacks is cringe sure but most of your woes were caused by you slamming your head against said shit scaling instead of leaving. Open world gameplay moment 👍
Gothic is still one of my favorite games, i hope they don't mess up the remake. My top 3 of recent times are Cyberpunk, Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3. The last few years were great.
TLDR: Guy blames several instances of user error on the game design. Yes I watched the whole video, and I’m normally a big fan of what this creator puts out, I just think this video is extremely silly and misguided and engages with the game in bad faith
I loved the video so very much. Immediately being added to the playlist I use to help me fall asleep when the insomnia gets bad. The only thing I'm a little disappointed about is that the theme of Cycles of Abuse was only touched on briefly with Astarion, when I believe it to be a much more concrete and powerful throughline in the character stories. The continuation or breaking of these cycles really defines the main 6 companions "good" and "bad" endings, it also is important in understanding the villains - especially Orin and Gortash. Learning of Gortash's past gives a lot more weight to his choice with Karlach and how he perpetuates the abuse he suffered. It also can help deepen an understanding of the companions and the choices they make. By helping your companions to trust in themselves rather than their abusers, you help to guide them towards the things they truly need, not what they believe they need. I believe looking at the game with this theme in mind helps Gale's story fit a lot more with everyones. Putting Mystra in the light of an abuser doesnt take away from the mistake and betrayal Gale committed, it instead adds so much to their dynamic and changes the light you see their relatioship through. Again, even without this point, the video was STELLAR and frankly one of the best takes I've seen on all the topics across the board from one person. So well written and articulated and definitely not just an outlet for a grudge thats certainly not being held against Minthara.
I approve of the use of "With Hearts Aligned" and the piano "Close in the Distance" as background music during that final section. ;-) Now I'm curious as to updated feelings about the changes since 6.1 to the ARR content and the new Variant dungeons.
Video about RPGs but you don’t mention Legend of Zelda link to the past or ocarina of time? So far haven’t heard anything about legend of Zelda at all but I’ve not made it through the whole video yet.
I assume the angry fan boys interpreting the title as click bait, or somehow that it implies all of the game's merits have gone unrecognized, or that it's unpopular (which is just a fundamentally different word than underrated...), have not bothered to watch the (admittedly lengthy) video. The whole point is that the author believes that the game has been underrated in certain aspects and is providing evidence to support that argument. It's subjective of course, so you may disagree, but that doesn't make the title disingenuous.
I started playing this game on my PS5 because my Uncle recommended I play it during Christmas Eve. Once I first played the game, I was impressed by the tactical gameplay, even thought it was difficult. The story and characters were really engaging as the more time I spent with them, I got to know them better. The only problems I had were the puzzles in the Gauntlet of Shar, the difficulty spikes, especially in Act 3 and the constant use of the save scumming system as I always have to go back to a previous save whenever I died or screwed up. But Baldur’s Gate 3 is a really great game and it deserved its title as best RPG of 2023. Here's my list of DND/Baldur's Gate 3 race and class combos Male Half Elf Ranger who romanced Shadow Heart Female Drow Warlock who romanced Astarion Male Half Orc Fighter who romanced Karlach Female Tiefling Rogue who romanced Gale
spell range attack=firebolt ie ranged spells/spell attack=shocking grasp ie melee spell its the caster's version for ranged attacks and melee attacks martials uses. its in dnd 5e as well.
TotalBiscuit (R.I.P.) and SplatercatGaming are the most influential RU-vid videos that have drawn me into indie titles. Click4Gameplay has me revisiting old RPG and dungeon-crawler games. I strongly recommend supporting small RU-vid channels that focus on indie and RPG games, especially now that triple-A games are at their worst in terms of monetization. A few shoutouts to Iron Pineapple, Razbuten, SkillUp, ACG., and Gameranx for elevating indie games and studios. There are a lot more, but my brain isn't working at 4 am on a weekday.
But... their world aren't deep at all. They are thin as paper. Old and new critics alike are right in that regard: Bethesda's game are Indeed incredibly shallow. They sold millions to kids on console who likes tò murder everyone on sight. Morrowind was a great game because they masked the shallowness and lack of depth behind the mistery of the main plot line (which was great in design and execution) but they have never repeated this feat because it wasn't needed tò sell milions of copies. Maybe It was even something that could get in the way in order tò broaden the appeal.
