My name is Pete, I am 61 years old and married with two girls. I am a retired engineer and have time on my hands. I’ve been riding motorcycles since my brother bought me a Vespa 90 when I was 9 years old. I am interested in anything mechanical, particularly on wheels. I will be trying my hand at posting a few videos of short rides on some of my classic bikes ranging from 1932 to the present day. I will also post videos of rides out on my Yamaha FJR1300.
I really enjoy watching the old Triumphs, got four of my own, here in the states, only two together and running right now. The "wrong side of the road" always gets me though. Thanks for sharing that.
@@user-iy6de7qi1r always loved the Triumphs, got my first at 17 a T120 from my father, all though I tend to be leaning towards the Norton, Thanks for watching
@@yorkshirebiker1293 My older sister dated a guy with a Ducati 160 in high school, early seventies, I bought a Ducati 250 and ran it till 77 when I got a 37 WLA and ended up selling it and about six other bikes in 83. After I lost my wife to m.s. four years ago, I began buying bikes again, bought a 78 Triumph last year and now have four old Harleys and four old Triumphs which I'm going through and rebuilding to get back on the road again. Really enjoyed your "road trip" you just posted. Never been to England but have enjoyed it vicariously with "Old biker" and a couple others who posted. Thanks for that!
@@yorkshirebiker1293 I've moved on, got the money to deal with Triumphs these days and I'm putting three back together, one for my niece, a nice "little" T100. It's coming together nicely, just a bit of chasing parts in odd places. Got another T100 and a 140 with a single carb. Might try to shoehorn it into a space T100 chassis. I prefer the old frames to the oil in frame types.
@@user-iy6de7qi1r Me to, not long enough in the leg for the oil in the frame, i've just done an BMW R80ST, fancied on old air head for years, just one of them itches you've got to scratch. Probably an electric leg for the Vincent next
Hi Norman from Ireland here.I have a 23 year old CB250 twin, the one just after the Nighthawk and I will not part with it for the world!!My other bike is a Bandit 600,but the Honda CB250 is my darling. My girlfriend is very jealous!!!
The HD system stomps all over the Honda nav system. I can map a very complex route on my laptop using the Harley Ride Planner , once saved it is passed automatically to the HD app on my phone and with one click it is sent to my bike, works perfectly. Why Honda does not have a similar system is beyond me as it could be used for both Cars and Motorcycles....Even in 2024 still lagging way behind both HD & Indian...these are meant to be touring bikes....come on Honda!
Good bike. An exhaust that won't aggravate your neighborhood. My first bike was a used early Matchless G12. Don't remember the year but same paint scheme and chrome.
Nice to see these old bikes in such a good condition! Discussing the drawbacks of the square four construction, in an article it was mentioned that the conrod big ends were only supported on one side, which is a strange construction and of course a weakness. Not mentioned here, but wonder how many engines in percentage had problems with that construction?
Great video to watch, you’re an experienced rider judging by the rides n your videos. Thanks for taking the time. I hope to be a proud owner of a Rapide very soon, so your video is a great appetiser 😊 Is the 5” speedo a straight forward swap with the original? It does crown a beautiful example of one of these V twins Starting you bike seems so much easier than I would’ve expected Thanks again 👍🏻
Yes Nice and easy to start is you use the method in the hand book, doping the valve lifter half way through the stroke, doesn't seem intuitive, but works, saves on the knees when they are on the way out, Yes the speedo fit's on with relevant bracket, i made my bracket, nice and easy and saves a few bob. Different to other brit bikes, just in a different league, YB
Unfortunately I can't remember, I end up making some jets, and mine is still on the rich side. I will have a look in my notes and if I have it I'll let you know.
had a quick look in my notes, and nothing. Did remember its a bit odd the way you alter the air correction jet, and the main jet, as one affects the other, afraid yo have to do a little reading, as my memory isn't what it was. YB
I had the identical looking mk3 in Canada between 1986 and 2001. I miss that sound. The first thing I did in '86 was remove the blown out mk3 pipes and put on stainless pea shooters. I'd buy it back but the current owner won't sell it!
Mine came from Minnesota, under 5000 miles on the clock, repainted tank and panels, new exhausts and that was about it,great bike, love it. I can see why you want it back, and here in England the prices are down, good time to buy. YB
You got it right Pete That's exactly where the oil leaks was coming from The ol Commando bugbear There,s a special tool to tighten those awkward to get at head studs nuts which the original Norton technicians had but no one else did But the if a rebuilt motor has hasn't been done without someone who knows what he,s doing you,ve got BIG problems!'
I got one off my dad when I turned 17, a 1965, the lad who my dad got it from used to race it, it was pretty sharp, until I hit a wall, cost me 4 1/2 months in hospital
Pete you made a BIG mistake you showed your face Now I know exactly who to tap on the shoulder if I,m ever at Squires and say G,day Pete. How's thas going? Or right? Guess who? Not that I drink tea anymore not since I left Yorkshire 60 odd years ago Those trees you mentioned do have a name when I find out I,ll let thee know fgc
I like the FJRs passing performance, wind it on a bit, whoosh, gone,no drama,no fuss what I don't like is the bears over here (Australia ) have them LE Velocettes they ain't!
Our cop's have a few and the French have loads, I've had a shed load of BMW's, although very good , not in the same league as the yam for radiality, for me anyway.
To use your popular Pommy phrase to be honest I haven't heard a bad word against the FJR1300 but it's not my cup of tea or pint of ale then again if I was riding one it be go directly to jail do pass go
To be honest its not the best looking bike, but me and the wife have done over 20 thousand miles around Europe, and the old girl has never batted an eye
