The dissonant pads/drones you are both getting out of the Hydrasynth and also how you are able to perform them, are gorgeous! Excellent work. I do Dark Ambient music, and i keep telling myself "I work in the box, i dont need a hardware synth no matter how much the Hydrasynth calls you" but watching the way you are playing the synth while programming it in realtime is making me truly rethink my decision
Thanks man! Performing is my obvious choice for this kinda music. It's nice to have a physical interface even if it's a midi controller. I'm not sure hydra is the one or there are better more performative ones but you can see the results. One thing tho, some dedicated effect pedals or knobs would be super nice, because it's knobs I tend to tweak a lot if offered the chance.
I'm on the fence. Can't decide. I'm after deep, warm tones but none of the demos I've seen have impressed me. This is closest vid I've seen. Can you get get nice Rhodes like tones from it..?
no rhodes tones I'm afraid. it's not really meant for that. There are some default patches that sound a bit like an FM piano. but you're better off with any old free rhodes plugin. this synth is more of a synth that you use to generate sounds from waveforms and mess them up with the knobs.
I was using Gauss tape looper here. but I often also use mirack where I can create my own chains of effects with modules, much like vcv rack / eurorack. there are also delay and reverb and a few more effects on hydra tho. Thanks for watching!
mama frate chiar foaaarte ciudat 🤣 Lucas was definitely on some type of stimulant he was barely holding himself from gurning as he was describing the music 😂
Oh! So nice that this performance was captured and is here, for now and the future. Your koncert was one of the brightest of the many highlights of that evening to me.
Thanks for saying it Ulf! It was indeed a memorable day, and I got reminded that it happened just now by facebook. But I don't have to be reminded, because sometimes I just think back to that studio and the people there and the cheese and all the lovely sounds and realize how important that is and how little it matters that I have some small problems or worries day to day. Hope to see you again soon along with the others!
if you can get it to trigger an envelope on a loop, I think you can achieve something similar. the repeating envelope is the secret of this piece, cause it keeps a pulse going while I'm free to focus on other shenanigans. but I never used a minifreak so idk! for ambient maybe check out my friend @SecondSunCph
I've owned the original Hydrasynth for 4? years. I've forgotten when I bought it, but I ordered it as soon as I heard about it and had to wait a few months for delivery. But I still love watching demo and random play videos just to hear what other people create. It's been years, and it's still my favorite piece of gear.
indeed. I went to a noise festival months after this video. The opening was a guy wearing a bike helmet and other protection gear, and he was "playing" an old vacuum cleaner with a distortion pedal. so good
Give me some info on the system, and ill guide you step by step. Some advice i can give you now, is to SILENCE the system, DO NOT RESET. If its an adressable system, it can be ok to silence and leave it in alarm. If the lights keep flashing after being silenced, thats not a fault. Its called selective silence, and cannot be changed while in alarm. Please make a video showing the controll panel, a manuel call point (activation buttons), and the smoke detector. If posible, try to get a key to the controll panel. You will know what your doing with my info. Feel free to reply for more info. PS: if you know that its not an adressable system, do not silence. I can be possible that the fire alarm system will not function propperly, while being silenced, and not reset,.
Here in the United States, I would call my local fire department to have them come and inspect the system. It would be illegal to live in an apartment with faulty fire detection equipment. This is insane that this is happening more than once. How many months has this been going on? If I was you and nobody was working on a resolution, I would call the fire department every single time the alarm went off and tell them, "There might be a fire going on at this building, the alarm is going off." As a musician, I have no idea how you can stay sane with this unwanted noise.
Same here - if this is not just a smoke detector but an actual fire alarm, I'd call 112 and straight up say, we have a fire alarm here in the building and you don't know where its from. Technically you should be leaving the building though, but this shouldn't continue. Same with car alarms, there are rather strict rules about how long they are allowed to be noisy.
we literally call them every time and do all that. but money talks louder than the alarm (however insane that might sound). apparently they are ok with paying a fine when the alarm hits rather than fixing it for the benefit of HUNDREDS of residents.
@@bjrnjacobsen5196 at first I've been leaving the building and not taking elevator and trusting their advice and shit. but after so many false alarms it's a joke. it's like using paper straws while drinking at the cafe of the corporation that is spewing toxic shit into the river. you're massaging a wooden leg at that point. you're literally the clown makeup meme at that point.
@@bjrnjacobsen5196 also maybe a non ethical solution because using up resources from the emergency system 112 for a false alarm abuse situation doesn't feel right... I mean shouldn't the alarm be hooked up to 112/fire dept anyway? otherwise what's the point of the alarm, is it just for the music?
@@horatiuromantic you literally have no idea if it is a false alarm though! it could be a real fire every time! hundreds of residents you say? time for legal action against the apartment owner
thanks for the comment! I used google translate for it so I don't know if I got it correctly. I haven't tried the big one with the contact strip, it sounds cool but I like that this one is small and portable. The knobs on the left of the interface are filters, on the upper right are controls dependent on the currently selected button. There is no sequencer in this one, only an arpeggiator which is pretty basic, but I use it in the videos with the hydrasynth & drums if you want to see it in action.
@@horatiuromantic thank you!… I will buy it next..now i got Digitone keys- its fm and has a sequencer….will see if it pairs well..) But - portability is a key indeed!..- and a joy!)
This is impressive. Closing my eyes it’s very relaxing. (Watching is a different experience - lots of hand movement, lol.) You stated in a reply it’s a factory patch. Can you recall which one?
This is how synthesizers should be used, and you're a master. The Hydrasynth is a curious thing, you make it look so easy, but I struggled with it for quite a while. It doesn't protect you from doing silly things, but I think that's the secret to its power, too. Nothing is off limits. It's quite a ride, like I've just discovered that you can modulate the ARP parameters, so my journey continues! I've loved watching how you've tamed this beast, and turned synthesis into a performance.
thank you very much! there are quite a lot of things to control and the interface is a bit limited but it can be mastered. I haven't done much with it lately but seeing that people still stumble on my hydrasynth content I think I should come back to it :) good luck in your synth journey!
This demo is giving me the impression that (should I purchase one of these for myself, which I’m planning on doing at the tail e d of April 2024 anyway) it could possibly be my go-to for an electronic track I’ve been interested in crafting for years but never tried, emulating the sounds made by the dishwasher my parents owned when I was born. I imagine patching a sawtooth drone, one of the mutants providing an FM simulation of the filling sound, applying a sine LFO for the spin cycle and a filter envelope for another motor sound.
The way that bell patch sounds at the beginning sounds like a homogeny of both the tubular bell tone from the DX synths and the one heard on Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” from the Synclavier II.
lol this is really cool how you made this virtual concert, perfect for us who cannot afford to go to UNDISCLOSED LOCATION and purchase tickets for this show
