As soon as I saw the set of the Bennett's house in the 2005 version, I had to stop watching~ there was No graciousness about it at all, as you would i.agine a Gentleman's household to be~ even a less rich Gentleman as Mr. Bennett was. The 2005 version looked almost squalid to me!
I have watched this version countless times and had no attraction toward any other version because this touches every aspect of the novel. The music alone would draw me to watch it again.
Good documentary, but I was surprised that it didn't mention Jennifer Ehle once. Her character is arguably even more central to the story than is Colin Firth's. She is on screen for longer. And she did win a BAFTA for her portrayal of Elizabeth. Having said that, of course all the cast were superb in this peerless adaptation.
This is the BEST version ever. Everything is perfect, casting, settings, script, everything! I still watch this series regularly, one of my most favourite things to do! 😊
this version of Pride and Prejudice is sublime. Everything is perfection, choice of the actors, the acting , direction , fidelity and respect of the period 's customs etc.it .cannot be surpassed.👏👏👏
This is my favorite version of" Pride and Prejudice" I think the choice of Colin Firth was as Darcy was just perfect, and the rest of the Cast as well. I bought the series, just had to have it.
It’s the only movie I’ve watched about 10+ times, my ONLY problem is with the kiss with Darcy and Lizzie at the end we’re they are very clearly doing the screen kiss we’re they completely miss their mouths, we wanted the real thing, that was a downer for me😔
Still the best version ever, imo. My only problem is that Mr Collins was totally miscast; the book describes him as “a tall young man of five and twenty”. Consequently I don’t understand the casting of a 42 year old actor of medium height. But for costume, hairstyles, speech, etc, etc, this version was just beautiful.
?? And nobody thought to tell that 'production designer' to close her legs when she was on camera and being interviewed... the producers of this documentary have no clue who their audience is. (Nobody wants to be forced to stare at a woman's crotch when they tune in to learn about the making of the movie... it's not a Playboy movie!)
I love this adaptation and have watched it more times than I care to remember, but I'd never seen this Making Of before. Thank you so much for sharing.
This version of “Pride and Prejudice” is definitely the gold standard. It’s an absolute delight to watch. I have it on DVD and I have watched it several times. Wonderful actors, fabulous costumes, and beautiful locations.
This cast is brilliant one by one Mr. and Mrs. are as they just stepped out of the pages. This book was the first novel I read by Jane Austen and even I love Persuasion more. This Movie was special to me. So thank you for this video and for its uploading.
I love the scene where Darcy looks out of his window and sees Lizzy playing with his dog and watches her running having a great time. He's falling in love with her.
Thank you for sharing. This must have been challenging to create. If you can’t get it all just “right,” with the casting: it will come off as a comedy. I loved this movie, but most of all: Jane Austin, of course. There is always something new to get out of a re-watching or another read. It’s just so rich and full. As far as casting goes: I loved the choices for almost all of the cast except for Mr. Darcy and then Jane, who obviously was not a great beauty at all - given any time frame, but rather large and horsey-looking to me. I suppose I wanted Mr. Darcy to have the same sense of entitlement and condescendence that his sisters had in this casting, but this did not quite come off. Instead, he appeared to come across as a more introverted and sensitive soul. So, I had a hard time with these two, who IMHO do not represent their roles as well as the others. Yet, it is a wonderful work of art that is timeless in nature. There’s an amazing amount of research and effort that went into the making of this. What I love best is that it is true to the writing. Thanks and appreciation to all involved.
First time I saw this film movie on dvd from the Library, always enjoyed it more and more so later did buy dvd box collection. Fun watch it anytime. Colin Fifth was Darcy and actors all play there parts Fantastic. Hope someday get Awards Hall of Fame. No 1. Truly enjoy it. Thank you. Sure watch others but this film movie my only favorite .
25:23 Sue Birtwistle: "I've read it now hundreds of times, but every single time I wait to see if Elizabeth and Darcy are going to get together. I steel suspend my disbelief until that moment and I long for them for it to work out. So it is the best romance."
"When we first auditioned David Bamber as Mr. Collins...." we we rolling around on the floor in a pool of our tears of mirth! :-DDDD The only question remains how on earth he managed to stay serious himself! He is the shiniest pearl in this unbelievable casting, if only Jane Austen could have seen him!
Lol... That scene when Lizzy tells Mr. Darcy that her feelings for him have changed into love instead of loathing, that LOOK on his face! 😂😂😂 I'm a mother of two boys, sister to three brothers, but that look has always puzzled me, so I had my husband watch it so he could translate. My husband said with great amusement, "He's pissed. He's saying, 'Is that ALL I had to do to get you to love me?"" Then he asked me, "Is this a romcom?"😂😂😂 I adore my husband.♥️
